Jeep Gladiator Stock To 39s In A Day! Tire Mounting At Home And 3.5" Lift Install.

  • Today we are going to take our Jeep Gladiator Rubicon ECO Diesel and toss it on a set of 39" KO2s... in a day! We are going to do 100% of the work ourselves, from mounting the tires to the lift kit install and then go play around off road a little bit.
I started this build on Thursday (Thanksgiving) and was driving it offroad on Saturday with no help on the install. These trucks really are that easy! This is a great beginner project and for those of you that typically pay someone to do this kind of work, I highly recommend giving this a shot yourself! Invite a couple of buddies over or make it a father son project. The wheels and the Clayton lift kit both have very clear instructions! All this work can be done with very basic hand tools and these modifications are as straight forward as it gets.
To be clear we are going to be adding a bunch more parts in the future including a winch, regearing the axles and even welding on some trusses.

I wheeled with a couple of gladiatiors for the first time yesterday, 2 on 37s, 1 on 40s, I'm in a TJ on 35s, about as polar opposite of a vehicle as possible, but damn if those things aren't impressive. It takes a little extra time moving that much vehicle through the rocks but they are very capable machines with very little modifications.

I’m interested to see what you do with the 3rd gen Tacoma. The 3rd gen, is a very much different from the second GEN, which is praised to be the best generation by far. I do like some of the new features that come with a third gen tacoma, but I’ve also heard of a lot of problems with them. Excited to see where you take all of your new toys and also what the jeep is going to be like once you are done with the work on it. Can’t wait for EJ‘s this year.

I installed this kit 2 years ago on my 2019 JL Rubicon to fit 40 inch Patagonia's. First off, great kit! A few things I did to tweak it to my liking. The front upper arms are still too short for 3.5 lift and a super soft ride IMHO. I used EVO drop brackets up front and they dropped the upper arms mounting position down 4.5 inches and the lowers down 2.5 so they both ride almost level now. That softened up the ride better then stock but changed the geometry enough the springs now needed help to keep up with what the rears were doing. Teraflex 1.5 spring spacers gave back everything the EVO brackets took away and I retained the comfy ride. That setup has been working FANTASTIC right up until last week. My front driveshaft gave up and took out the trans cooler leaving me stranded on the side of the road on fire! This happened one week after driving 2200 miles from SoCal to my new home in Tennessee. Good luck on your new family toy and please learn from my mistakes. Replace the front driveshaft! Yes, I will be using Knoxville Driveline from the Bleepin Jeeps videos. ;-)

I have a '21 JT-R Diesel as well and ran into the bolt issue on the front passenger control arm. You can get it out. You pull the bolt out as far as possible, then rotate the pinion up with a jack and that will pivot the arm forward putting the bolt on just enough of an angle to pry it out. You absolutely just need to reverse the bolt by putting it in from the outside and the flag nut on the inside, opposite how the factory did it. I hope you have better luck on with the rear sway bar end link mounts to the frame, they loosen themselves over time and pop out on the trail. I only have 5.5k miles on it and have lost 2 and always carry spares....red lock-tite, factory torque, still work themselves out if you wheel them a lot, which I do. 6.5" Evo HD springs diesel springs, Metalcloak gamechanger arms and trackbars, KMC Grenade beadlocks on 37s. That might sound like a big lift, but we live near the Rubicon and run lots of rocky NorCal trails every weekend, that height keeps your sensitive diesel bits out of the rocks. A company is now making aluminum belly armor for the diesel, and along with trussing the front axle and 40s is our winter project. She's a beast and I love wheeling the heck out of it. It has a Rebel 1/2 height bedrack, winch , bumpers, fridge, rooftop tent, and a pair of kids...makes memories and treks to outrageous camping spots. I'm a Tacoma/Lakewood native now living in CA, and have run Elbe in various Jeeps and fullsize rigs. We definitely build them different for the PNW, than NorCal.

10 minutes for a set of hutchinson beadlocks? not a chance! my first took 80 minutes- the seals love to pop out of the beads- and there are 20 bolts to torque to 120lb/ft which takes time. Its also very very hard if you don't have a proper mount to lay the wheel on- also worth noting that a set of 315/70r17 bfg km3 on a set of hutchinson weighs about 100lb! aoart from that- another great vid :)

Tune in next week for smiley face axles 😂 I’d get those trusses on quickly. 39” on a jeep d44 is a recipe for trouble :)

The sensors in the tires are actually referred to as “TPMS sensors”(tire pressure monitoring system)

Didn’t want to be the only one to point that out, but tpms sensors is kind of a mouthful

the thing about the gladiator is that there is no other vehicle like it on the road. solid axels, removable roof, removable doors all weather interior. if money was no obstacle i would buy one

Please do a review on how the stock gearing works with the 39s, how long it lasts, and/or when you plan on a regear. Was told by several people 37s and up I would need a regear. We have a Wrangler Rubicon EcoDiesel with a 2.5 lift and 35s for now, but was wondering about creeping up to the 37s and what the added costs would be, like possible regearing, etc...

Very cool video Nate, you make it all look so easy…
Now my question is starting to shift; JL or JT. Oh and I should preface this with the really good possibility that my wife and I will be moving AZ to NM in the not so distant future. The added capabilities of an actual pickup truck vs the typical Jeep are starting to interest me. And the ease of modification is an added bonus.

Pretty impressive that you didn't change gearing going with that big of a tire, guess it doesn't really matter being a diesel, but aren't you worried about breaking something? Also, I do have a critique though if I may. When torquing anything, avoid using extensions (whenever possible) and stop doing the double click, and make sure it's reaching torque in the middle of the pull, not at the very end or beginning... it all throws off the torque spec, grant it, it's beadlocks and not a crank cap or cylinder heads, but it's a bad habit most people do that's hard to break.

I worked at a “discounted tire” shop for a few years and sadly don’t shorten the TPS to TP they’re Tire Pressure Monitoring System so it’s TPMS 😂 just for technicality sake not being a nit picker
