Kevin McDonald Teaches a Kids In The Hall Method to Sketch Writing Workshop
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 ноя 2020
- Spend two days with Kevin McDonald: developing and furthering your skills as a sketch writing artist. Students will bring a premise for a comedy sketch to the first class. Example: "What if a guy was $10 short of being a millionaire?" Or: "What if a guy was kicked out of the KKK for being a jerk?".
On Saturday, Kevin leads exercises and discussions to explore ideas and concepts in sketch creation. Homework on the night of the first workshop will be to write a sketch based on their premise. Students should have an hour or two free that night to work at their homes. The sketches will be read and workshopped in Sunday's class.
Date: Nov. 21 & 22 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: Online
Maximum Students: 14
Registration $125
Prerequisite: none
Age: 18 and above
About the Instructor: Kevin McDonald has written for The Kids in the Hall, The Martin Short Show, and Saturday Night Live. This is his fourth workshop with Unexpected Productions.
He founded The Kids in the Hall with his friend Dave Foley. They met in Toronto at the Second City Training Center, and the two wrote and performed in sketches together more than any other pair in the group. In the troupe's TV show and stage shows, he portrays several favorite recurring characters, such as the King of Empty Promises, Sir Simon Milligan, and Jerry Sizzler. Still, it's a frequent running gag that McDonald is the least popular member and always struggling not to get kicked out.
Since The Kids in the Hall's end in 1994, he's played many roles in movies like Boy Meets Girl, Agent Pleakley in the Lilo & Stitch series, and Harry Potter in Epic Movie. On TV, he has appeared on The Martin Short Show, Ellen (as a radio personality), That '70s Show (as a confused young cleric, Pastor Dave), Seinfeld, Friends, NewsRadio (on which Foley starred), MADtv, Arrested Development, and Corner Gas. McDonald has also done voice work for various animated series, including Invader Zim (in which he did the voice for Almighty Tallest Purple), The Angry Beavers, Catscratch (in which he voiced Waffle), and Clerks: The Animated Series. He also played an imaginary friend named Ivan in the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episode Sight For Sore Eyes, and appeared in the music video for "Roses" by Outkast.
In 2006, McDonald hosted a CBC Television special, featuring several of Canada's best-known sketch comedy troupes. "Sketch with Kevin McDonald" won a Canadian Comedy Award (Best-Taped Live Performance - The Minnesota Wrecking Crew), with The Imponderables nominated for the same award.
He was recently in Montréal as a part of the Just for Laughs Festival with the reunion of The Kids in the Hall, and also with his show "Hammy and the Kids" with Craig Northey, based on his two dysfunctional families, his father ("Hammy") and The Kids in the Hall. Развлечения
I’ve been on a Kids in the Hall you tube kick lately. It’s made me realize just how much I miss that show .
Kevin is definitely the weirdest Kid in The Hall, and he's my favorite!
Bruce McCullock was my favourite but I like them all, even the band Shadowy Men On a Shadowy Planet. The show had something most sketch comedies don't... their own style.
Dave Foley for me, but there is no wrong answer.
It’s tough to pick, but Kevin’s the top pick for me too.
He definitely had the most comical voice. I wish he did more voice acting for cartoons.
Dave Foley was my favorite. News Radio may have skewed that, however.
He's big in France. They call him Le Poopy
I thought he was Larry Fine?
Le Poopy est le plus grand jamais!!! Vive Le Poopy!!!
;P
I was going to sign up for the workshop but it slipped my mind.
I'll bet you just feel sick about the whole thing.
@@sydbarrett5 Tell you what I'll do. I'll take TWO workshops. Leave a tip at both, and I'll also give you my copy of The Godfather, signed by Marlon Brando.
@@GrassValleyGreg You'll really do that?
@@sydbarrett5 Will. Do.
this comment and the sequence of replies made my day, so perfectly executed.
"I'm not trying win the best sketch writer ever award or anything "
Kevin: "oh you havent. You havent"
Kevin, you were the glue that held the rest of the troop together. You just brought a certain energy and charisma that made the show that much better. Sir Simon Milligan you were the best at EVIL.
Kevin, you might not be as “famous” as some of your castmates, but you are definitely memorable! KITH wouldn’t have worked without you. Thank you for making me giggle for many years!!!
I could listen to Kevin talk for hours, he's amazing.
Doc Brown in a Back to the Future reboot. You can't unsee it now.
You cannot replace Christopher Lloyd, either. It would be akin to replacing the late Peter Sellers, with somebody, else. Or the late Gene Wilder, with somebody, else. Or the late Zero Mostel/Kenneth Mars, with somebody, else. Or Kevin McDonald, in "Senior Trip", with somebody, else. You know why people, not supposed to try to fix stuff, not broken, try to fix stuff, not broken? It slipped their mind.
It's like if Marty became doc in the future
I dunno, KM looks more like a cross between Steven Wright and Vincent Schiavelli now. His voice hasn’t changed one bit though.
Kevin always made me laugh. His part in the axe murderer skit cracked me up, one of my favourite skits.
I loved where he bled on mail and it saved his life "junk mail"
I discovered Kids in the Hall this year, it must have been awesome growing up with their sketches.
It was Miguel. It's funny, your comment reminded me of the time I bumped into Mark McKinney on the Danforth while I was on my way to a haircut. I hadn't thought about that in about 20 years. I remember feeling a bit awkward for stopping him on the street, but he was super nice and down to earth, and he even talked to me about Brain Candy for a bit before I told him that it was nice to meet him, but I was late for my haircut. It was a little bit awkward, a little bit mundane. Everything that meeting a Kid in the Hall should be.
I'm admitting my age, but this show came out when I was a tween. I was a night owl, and my parents had cable (on HBO in the U.S). I was so addicted!! Always funny!!
@@edwardbridgewater5641 I would have skipped the haircut lol
It was!!!!
It was the reason I got HBO in college. Me and my roommate saw one sketch and were like, "Let's split it!" hahaha. They were so great.
Oh, Almighty Tallest, send me on a comedic odyssey. ... OF DOOM !
Seriously loved you guys. Kevin's voice is unmistakable.
He once survived a bear attack.
He was never the weakest one, there is no weak one. IMO Kevin and Bruce were the best writers, by far. They are all legends.
“Always put salt in your eyes…”
He's quite possibly the funniest Kid in the Hall (He's got a 1 in 5 chance)
Every Kid in the Hall is the best Kid in the Hall!
@@thomasbarrett8767 I know. The best Kid in the Hall changes daily and with each viewing of the same episodes
There is nothing weak about Kevin. He’s brilliant.
Kevin McDonald is amongst my top five favorite Kids in the hall... TOP 5.. Keep on, keeping on KEVIN🙄🙄🙄
Evil!
I know, right? You can't pick a favorite Kid because each one is a phenomenal and distinctive talent and the show wouldn't have been the same without one of them.
This is two minutes and eighteen seconds of why Kevin is the best KITH.
You're amazing Kevin, loved kids in the hall. Such a great show.
My wife was at a party with Kevin and Foley in Toronto back in the day. We love Kev :-)
I always loved him in Senior Trip!!!! Kids in the is great too!
Master of self deprecation! I love you, and your work- "Power through weakness" Honestly an inspiring example on how to invert one's situation. Thank you very much for all your effort for the Great Work. Last time I had a birthday, I heard there was going to be a revival. My current birthday wish is that it only slowed down due to covid. Please come back to us. The world NEEDS you guys's style now more than ever!
Always loved his Trekkie character in National Lampoon's Senior Trip. So funny
Loved it when he voiced one of the tallest in invader zim.
Thank you for adding much laughter to my life. I applaud your many talents. Wishing you continued health, happiness and prosperity.
Hi Kevin! Been a fan since 87!!!! ( Chicken Lady Strip show / Mark McKinney storytime ) LOVE YOU!!!!!
This may have been for a specific event that has since passed, but it has an enduring quality. That quality is Kevin McDonald.

Great to see him again.
I love kids in the hall! you guys are the best and i hope for the best for you gang
I ❤️ you, Kevin!
I want to attend one of your workshops.
A buddy of mine in high school in the 90’s wasn’t as big a fan of TKITH as I was. Not knowing kevin McDonald’s name he bumped into him in a tiny strip mall in downtown port Jefferson station on Long Island and eloquently said: “hey…aren’t you…”that guy?” And mr McDonald then put on his most “deer in headlights” panic stricken face then ran off in a most dramatic fashion. It must have been comedy gold.
Always super funny in drag on the show LOL
Reminds me of Will Sasso, highly underrated. Kids in the hall brain candy is one of the best films ever made.
Wish I had seen this. Love TKITH!
I adored this show, Kevin and Dave were my favorites because of Simon and Hecabus lol , But I also liked the French trappers skit
I still see his (her) eyebrows from the "Dipping areas" sketch. 🤣🍁
Kevin we love you! Thank you for being so funny and for keeping Heccubus in line. I should have never saved you from those seals.
i love this man! we watched the super bowl once and he made football seem interesting! im not kidding! why am i yelling??

The only reason Kevin isn't my favourite kid in the Hall, is because every one of them is a genius. The only reason Kevin isn't my favourite kid in the Hall, is because every one of them is a genius. I like to think the best Kevin sketch is the evil guy with the incubus.

Just taking the opportunity to let Kevin know that British Columbia loves and appreciates him.

Eeeeevilllll....trust him..hehe
Missed this! Will there be more?
Cant have cornflakes without a whole lotta milka

Kevin looking like Gene Ween. Would be incredible to take a class with Kev.
Gene Ween was doing guitar lessons before covid/totalitarianism. It would've been interesting to have a class from him.
@@MicahMicahel Gene or Dean? Either would’ve been sweet but Deaner is possibly my favorite guitarist ever.
Brain Candy was amazing
Best kid.
I'm waaaay too late, but... let the slaughter begin!!!!
Liliana Wilczkowska is Kevin MacDonalds fave fan...js
