I've made coconut oil toothpaste before and really like it. I read bentonite clay absorbs liquids and becomes hard naturally, maybe this is why your recipe became very pasty? Subscribing☺

I use organic coconut oil at room temperature. Mix in baking soda until desired consistency and I add drops of peppermint extract for flavor. You may have used too much oil or not enough? (sorry I don't measure anything exactly either). Hope this helps you.☺️
