If you ever run into this again, on the passenger side frame rail towards the front there is a VIN plate. By federal law it will tell you total capacity and the capacity of each compartment. I hauled fuel for over 30 years. Stay safe guys.

Fuel hauler here (NOT THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK IN VIDEO)
Diesel fuel weighs about 7.2 pounds per gallon. Gasoline weighs about 6 pounds per gallon. Also, on most tanker trailers, there will be a plate on the driver side near the landing gear that tells you how many compartments and how much those compartments will hold.

    • @davidbeeston2481

Back in the late 70s Shell Oil put together what they called their RAT team,,,,rollover action team. In their response trailer they had air operated hole saws, stingers that would reach the bottom of a compartment entering from the side. They had compressed air tanks on board, various sizes of hoses and air driven product pumps. They could arrive on scene and either pump into a stand by truck or use a vacuum truck and have the overturn empty and ready to upright in short order. Each of our Shell trucks had a black dot on the bulhead front and rear at a point that would be above liquid level if the truck were on it's side. As for compartment compacity the driverside tank bolster on the front has a data plate that tells all the needed information, date of manufacture, who was the manufacturer, thickness of the material and compartment sizes. Retired Shell Oil in 2002!

I'm a bit surprised the wrecked rig still had its lights on. I figured they would disconnect the batteries so there wouldn't be a chance of something sparking and lighting stuff off if the spillage got worse.

Everybody is wondering about the capacity of that trailer. All you have to do is go into the glove box and pull out the paperwork for the trailer. You have to have it in order to load at any terminal and it will tell you the exact specifications of the trailer because they have to be vapor tested annually

Alex, Great video as usual. You really rock with the overhead shots. Thank you for that 😊😊
    Several comments.
    1. Truck 85?? C'mon man, you got to do better than that. Truck 85 is just so generic. Give all your rigs names and make them feel like part of the Pepe family 😢😢
    2. I can't imagine having a fluid recovery truck and not having enough hose to reach more than 10 ft?? That's just plain silly. I mean that's all they do is off load gas, diesel, cooking oil or whatever. Would any of your rotators go out without a full compliment of accessories?? Simple answer is NO.!!!!!
    3. You may or may not be able to answer this, but are your trucks on the clock from the moment you arrive on scene until you leave or are these set price recoveries regardless of actual time on site??
    4. Finally. You said this, not me when you called that recovery UGLY 😱😱. Definitely NOT one of your best. You didn't have much choice in my opinion 😢😢
Once again, thanks for taking us along. Always entertaining watching you and Josh do your magic 😂😂😂 Ron from Ohio

That was probably just another fuel hauler that got rerouted to do a pump out. The hoses he had on his truck were just what he used for regular work.

In the future, try using the drone to see if there's any capacity listed on the up side of the tanks.

On preflight test for water in the fuel tank, a sample is drawn. Water is heavier than fuel. Water weighs 8 pounds/gal and fuel weighs 6 pounds/gal. Water is clear, and fuel has a yellowish/brown color to it. On the P-3.

At first I was thinking "burning flares near a wrecked tanker!?", but then it's mentioned it was diesel.

25:14 "I think he must've wiggled out." I work for a grocery distributor; half of our fleet's seat belts stay buckled because the drivers refuse to wear them. The only reason it's buckled is to silence the alarm in the truck, and to keep the tractor asset protection system from logging an unsafe event. Useless if no one ever checks it.

Comforting to know that in a major city it takes over two hours for a hazmat crew to report to an emergency. The citizens are in good hands.🤣

Not having a long enough hose can be a problem.
