- Unbelievable Dock Disaster: Who's at Fault? I see these accidents all the time on social media but this was my first in person! Lots of sticky red tape just because it's at the port so supervisors left and right watching your every move. The ports are heavily automated now, which means these giant cranes do not have an operator in them. They're built for speed and efficiency, but accidents still happen. The driver is also responsible for checking their locks to make sure the container is not attached to the chassis. Maybe the driver forgot to check the locks, or maybe the machine was too fast and lifted before the driver could do that? I've also heard of drivers removing the locks while in line, then by the time they get to this spot the locks vibrate back into place.
Dave in our 75ton rotator, aka Big Flipper, and myself in my 50ton rotator, aka Hulk, tag teamed this one in a way we haven't before. Instead of one truck controlling the front and one in the back, we split the load down the middle side to side instead. This was Dave's plan, and man oh man did it work beautiful.
This method allowed us to bring it up high enough to clear the fence and machine it was stuck on without damaging anything, then from there we worked our magic along with the machine operator to free the back. Once free, we rotated in opposite directions to get the tractor and chassis straight, then set down to the ground.
I used my Sony FX3 with a Sony F1.8 20mm lens on a DJI RS3 Mini gimbal for almost all shots, with the exception of the few obvious iPhone 14 Pro shots. What do you guys think?

I know it’s a complex operation but you guys make it look so easy! True professionals!! 👍🏻
Very complex job, but if you're familiar with my channel you know I don't like the drama. Like the TV shows where they show up to a wreck and dramatize on how they're going to get it done. We show up, analyze, get a game plan and execute it. Sometimes we change our plan once or twice which is OK, but it's important the team is always in sync.
@@PepesTowingService You guys always do a great job! I use to be a firefighter from So Texas and you guys do things I or my crew never thought of. Even the tow guys we worked with didn’t even think of the stuff I see you guys do.
As a retired UK container driver you'd be be suprised how common it is for a driver to forget to undo the twistlocks, easily done if your distracted. Great recovery guys.
I think I’ve watched too many tow truck videos as my first thought was that someone forgot to undo the container locks. Not bad for an 80 year old woman!
Yep!
That's what I love about my fans and these videos. You can pick up so much without even being in the industry.
So was in the wrong, the driver who didn't unlock the pins or the guy with remote controlled crane WHO FAILED TO CONFIRM it was unlocked and FAILED TO READ THE WEIGHT being lifted. Probably both got fired.
I’m 70 years old I’m a woman and I just started watching this channel. I love it.
@@sammartin8932it’s an automated port there’s an emergency shut off switch for those situations. Unfortunately it was the drivers fault for not unlocking pins and not paying attention.
Josh, that had to be one of the cleanest and most complex recoveries ever done in this planet. You and Dave performed a masterpiece.
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed it so much!
Josh, “Bad robot.”
Exactly what the semi driver said before his truck was tossed…
Well, how was the robot supposed to know the driver didn't want to go with the container? He's the one who's supposed to unlock the pins.
Working at the docks for the past 22 years, I gotta say a couple of things about this incident: these happen with people behind the wheel on the straddle carrier, but it seems AI doesn't make it any different - if the twistlocks aren't fully unlocked, you're gonna lift the truck & trailer and notice it too late. Truck drivers don't always remember to open or check the twistlocks on the trailer, and this is a fairly common end result of that.
As for how it ends? In about 99,9% of the cases it's the same: straddle carrier ends the shift with zero damage, the other one gets a ride on the tow truck for heavy repairs.
Beautiful work with the recovery, didn't see any additional damage done to truck or trailer. Great workmanship!
Thank you, haven't been able to watch for years. Had stroke, seizures, cancer, etc! Finally home and able to enjoy my RUclips!
Awesome job with minimal damage. That's why you guys are the professionals.
You're too kind, thank you
Hats off to you Josh. Great workmanship and teamwork.
👍
You guys earned your money on this one. Very skillfully done and protected a seriously expensive container handler. Bravo.
I’M AN INSTRUCTOR IN ALABAMA, I TEACH THIS STUFF. I WANTED TO COMMEND YOU ON YOUR TACTICS, PRECAUTIONS, SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS AND TECHNIQUE. THIS WAS TRULY WELL EXECUTED IN A SAFE, PROFICIENT, AND EFFECTIVE MANNER. WELL DONE. I SHALL USE THIS VIDEO FOR MY STUDENTS TO OBSERVE. KUDOS GUYS.
@@Jagabot_Esq. Give the guy a break. He's an instuctor, not an IT magician
Maybe the instructor was old school before keyboards with shift keys. I used them.
Josh and Dave another awesome job! You both work with the customer very well! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Well done guys, being round trucks 40 yrs nice to see someone who knows what they are doing
36:08 - For me, this is probably the definitive example of how in sync Josh and Dave are. Awesome!
That is my favorite part too! Here's a secret, that part was Dave's idea. He told me on the headset to rotate each truck in the opposite direction, and bam magic happened.
Damn Josh… That was messed up… Good thing they called you guys!!!
The rigging and geometry of the forces all has to be visualized before something like this can be pulled off. Beautiful recovery. You guys make those rotators do a waltz while holding a tractor in mid-air.
100%. Like my dad taught me, you have to see the end at the beginning.
True professionalism and amazing job! That’s what makes y’all the best!
Way better than an episode of Highway Thru Hell.
Thank you! I don’t like those fake reality shows. The wrecks are cool but man do they over dramatize every single call lol
@@PepesTowingService 4i mnutes of show, 2 minutes commercials, and they repeat the last part of the previous segment. Lol. I would have liked to see the wide view of the 2 rotators though
Working under a suspended load, the fun never ends.
And that is why I always tied the locks open when I went to a port or a rail yard.
The real MVP in this video is the bomb proof chain link fence.
No haters here boys, great job on a pretty funky recovery. Professional work as always, the right equipment and operators always get the job done.
Just total perfection and very good teamwork!
Josh and Dave, wow, what an intricate job. I wasn't sure how you were going to handle it, but you guys, Hulk and Big Flipper, made it look easy!!
Mr Josh Another awesome recovery. You get the craziest calls. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Thanks as always for watching my friend, hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
Hats off Ese-. That's master craftsmanship!
To all you heavy equipment companies; these r the guys to hire for all you're rigging needs. Take note.
Josh/ Dave; Nice flying a Tractor/trailer, best recovery video!
A great technically challenging job....good thing it wasn't crazy busy in that area at the time. And the truck still looks driveable depending how far back the bumper got tweaked.
The run back over the bridge at night all empty...it is a pretty sight to see🙂
High fives to you both!!
Amazing recovery! Well thought out, cool headed and love how in sync y’all are. Not only that, the filming is top notch too. Great angle on all shots and thanks for showing all the intricate details. Made me feel like I’m right there. I only just found the channel but I look forward to catching up on it and whatever you gonna bring in the future!
Wow, what a finess operation, you & Dave really nailed that one.
Super glad to know that Billy was able to give you the the equipment that is necessary for all this great videos you’re making I’ve been an arborist for over 30 years start shopping at Bailey’s back in the 1990s.
Another absolutely awesome recovery Josh & Dave! THX!
Amazing job and truly two professionals showing those folks at the port how to get the job done!! Best part is everyone went home safe and not another scratch added to that damaged rig!!
Holy crap. You guys get some of the craziest recoveries I've ever seen on RUclips you guys rock on all of them what it is fantastic job
Great work on this one. It's especially great you were able to dislodge the back of the trailer without being able to directly rig to it. With that suspended container hanging above, you couldn't go back into that area. Some might not think of the "thou shalt not work underneath a suspended load" rule, which made your job tougher (but safer).
You hit it on the head. We COULD HAVE rigged to the rear and pulled it, but we could have caused more damage brute forcing it that way. The way we did it by rotating the front back and forth gently allowed it to break free without any damage.
Tow truck drivers are a different, and amazing breed 👏. You guy's are a credit to you profession. Thank you for keeping guys like me on the road. 😊
Always nice to go into a closed place and pull off a good job, they will call you back another time. They still have plenty of people working in the yard tho.
These guys are always professional on all of the jobs they get. Their performance is and has been excellent.
Hey Campion I really enjoy watching you young guys at work. You come up with reall good plans with unusual challenges. Keep up the good work!
That was relatively intense. Nice job getting it down with that finesse!
Thank you!
As a crane operator myself, I can only compliment you guys, nice bit of teamwork there. Also the port controllers stepped right in like they did it before.
Nice, thank you. What kind of crane do you operate?
@@PepesTowingService I got one on the back of my truck. A Palfinger 53002, 30 meter range. Mostly I'm lifting pallets with drywall plates. No winch but some hydraulic pallet forks
the definition of : LIKE A BOSS !!!!!
Great job! You both did a well coordinated “ballet in the air”👍👍👏🏻👏🏻🌹
Sweet once in a lifetime job....again you wrote the book on how to do it right.
What’s refreshing is seen somebody in this day and age taking Safety so seriously safety just goes out of the minds of people at times kudos sir.
Excellent work, totally amazing team work!!!
Perfect recovery guys, fantastic skills.👍👍👍
Professional from the word go, job done with no damage to the customer or the tow equipment perfect
You guys respond to some crazy wrecks and as always, awesome job.
You all did one heck of a job props to you both for doing an awesome job
Awesome job you guys both did on this recovery!
Still amazes me that you can pick up a whole truck like that and make it look so easy you guys rock your job.
What a great fluid plan expertexpertly executed. Again you went home safe and sound.
Driver forgot to unlock chassis load lock pins!!!!
Yup
It seems so, although I've heard that while standing in the very long lines they can vibrate back in, at least one. It's why you check right before.
WELL DONE!!!! Great job, guys!!
hate, hate , hate. there, you have the one to validate your hypotisis.
Great job !!
AWESOME AWESOME JOB!!!!!! You guys work so well together!!!!!!
Ultra-heavyweight ballet. Most excellent recovery! 🎉🥇
True professional’s at work. Good job
I was born, Still live in Long Beach. My Father drove trucks in the harbor. Glad I found your channel

Fantastic Job!! Now you are in my neighborhood, literally
Fascinating! Great teamwork.
Good job guys true professionals at what you do
That was fantastic! Fun to watch. Thanks!
That was pretty slick. The yard rats came up with a good one and you had no problem getting it done. Nice work.
I had a feeling they weren’t going to let you guys on the automated side. Great job getting everything recovered with little damage.
I love watching the top notch work you guys do love hulk
Excellent work, Very interesting. You guys do great work.
Wow ! I haven't been in Long Beach since 1970 has it grown. Great job.
Awesome as always, you guys are the best of the best.
Awesome job as always guys!!
Dude, that was some great videoing, awesome angles of the tractor airborne. Great communication with the other operator. Don't see how it could have gone any better, great job.
You got my Respect Bro....
Hey Josh & Dave !! Great recovery with working together to ""GET--R--DONE ""!!! Liked the night shots of leaving the port too !!! Thanks !!!! 🙃😉😋🤔🙄👀👀👀👀👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!!!
You guys did a AWESOME job, muy Bien trobajo!, To trabojando is muy Bien!
Gracias 💪
That was pretty darn cool to watch. Loved the bridge too.
"Who's at fault ?" I am on the fence with this one ..🤣🤣🤣
Great solution. Congrats.
Beautiful job boys.........tricky situation overcome well.
Great job guys
Sweet skills fellas, poetry in motion.😎
If I ever get a chance to get out to CA again, I am for sure going to look you up. You explain things so well that it brings good ideas to my head in hopes of developing some new tools of the trade. But for right now I still am frozen in solid in Northern MN and down my main vehicle. Darn electrical systems have me totally stumped.
Seeing him pull the truck forward, tells me the driver was "relieved of his duties, and has moved on to new and exciting endeavors".
Sweet scenery of the port and bridge...
One thing that makes this video so amazing, is the fact that I am looking at it on an 86-inch 4K tv.
Excellent work on this mess, but man, its so bizzare-o!
"Bad Robot!" Indeed!
Josh another Great video ! Congratulations on 106's subscribers ! He did look like he went full speed ahead ! That was weird. Hopefully you will still have calendars in March . I hope .
Amazing work
Thx Josh for an informative and entertaining video with excellent content and production.
Those rotators are a real game changer..
Great recovery good job
I love this new equipment, back when I drove ( mid80's to 90's)we did recovery with a lot more risks. Since I was the skinny one I often had to do much of the rigging.
You seem to have a great team and some of the best skills as well as equipment.
Great job, you guys are good at what you do.
"Amazing technical job"... absolutely Josh! 😁. Like I've said before - Every day brings something different! Quality video too btw! 👍🏼
Brilliant work!
Awesome job as always! 👏
Nice that you have built your business correctly that you can have the best equipment, and do these tricky jobs. I admire your work ethic. You seem to have a lot of fun with these challenges. Wish I could work for you! Signed, former business manager.
