With an EQ in the loop and an Overdirve in the front it actually has a really good tone for metal. Especially for it being a lunchbox amp. My opinion anyway.
@@NubsWithGuns Most guitarists have little to no knowledge about electronics. If you put the exact same circuitry in this "lunchbox amp" into a full sized head, people wouldn't know the difference, but they would evaluate it as more professional because bigger = better.
Probably just means he'd rather play on something better but is still impressed by them. They're ok imo but the gain had a little noise associated w/ it. I guess you'll have that but w/ these theres no fx loop in the back so even a noise gate doesn't help. They do have a nice thick tone but you'd be better off going w/ one of their other ones that has the fx loop in the back. JMO
If Orange is good enough for Jim Root, it's good enough for me. I love my Dark Terror Head; especially for baritone leads. It has an intangibly ominous filthyiness, particularly with the Ghoul Screamer/Darkblood pedals in front.
@@watersnortmoment3734 Jim Root has been in competition with himself to dial back distortion as much as he can in favor of tonality. Pyschosocial is a very clear example of it. Some people can pull it off. People do it to make their sound tighter.
I miss my 6505 mh.it was a beast.but I'd really like to try this it sounded amazing.also wanna experiment the difference in a 1x12 compared to 4x12.i have Randall rg1003h and it's very versatile.
I love how big this small amp sounds; I also like that I can totally get away with plugging it into a big speaker cab. It does look a little weird on a big cab tho, so I plan to buy an empty big Orange amp head with dummy controls on the front and hide the micro dark inside lol.
Just ordered one and have a bad monkey,metal core, and muff fuzz pedal. Should I still get an equalizer pedal and any other pedal suggestions to add?and what kind of equalizer u use?
Orange amps are awesome. I have a tiny terror head that I use for my Stoner band and it sounds killer with an overdrive pedal ! I'm always impressed of the versatility (and the loudness!) of these tiny amps...
This is my main amp. Did a tube swap, run some OD in the front with effects in the loop. It's a killer amp, Can keep up with loud drummer, have played hundreds of gigs with this guy. Highly recommend to metal and non metal heads alike.
@@jeremyt4292 60 Watt 2x10 oversized cab from Panama (kind of rare). And I used a H&K Red box between the amp and cab that fed into front of house (now a Friedman mic-no-mo). The cab sim on the amp isn’t great. Works in a pinch if you need it but it’s not ideal.
I have had this amp for a while now and knew the answer before he started. Best buy out there by far. I have been using it lately as a power amp with an M-Audio Black Box and 7 band EQ into the FX loop into a 1x12 cab and it is UNBELIEVABLE! Had the black box for years and wasn't crazy about it until I ran it this way. The tones I get now are out of this world.
As someone who has used this exact amp for a long time, it does chug. Even if you slap it with a boost instead of an overdrive, it will tighten up and chug for days. That said, I mostly used mine slightly crunchy or clean 😂

This amp is my main gigging rig lol. Use some overdrives in the front, delay and reverb in Effects loop. I've played large gigs with a loud drummer, it can push a 4x12 with ease. Highly recommend to metal and non metal players looking for a budget amp.
The Micro Dark is an amazing amplifier for its size and cost. Its my go to practice am at home and with a Band. Yes that thing can stand up to a drummer who's not a complete animal. I use a Metalzone without distortion purely for a solo boost to boost the highs and mids.

Orange amps have been one of my favorites for years. Put a RAT pedal in front of it and that Terror Dark becomes a whole beast. Still praying you do a review of the RAT2. I love this amp. It has the best clean channel I’ve ever played. The gain section has a decent amount of range too. A Tubescreamer in front will help this amp out a ton.
I have the micro terror and it chugs, but clearly the dark chugs better, so I shall have one! These are great lunchbox amps for sure! I'd also like to try the JOYO Zombie. Great video!

I love my OMD!!! People always look so smug when I pull it out at jams and put it on top of a 4x12. Then I play it and they're jaws are always catching fly's. My chain is a Boss Ds-1 in front of the amp and a Dunlop 10 band EQ through the effects loop.
I have the Micro Dark, and trust me, that little fucker DEFINITELY chugs! I run either a Maxon OD-9 or an MXR Raijin Drive on the front, and it’s straight hellfire in a lunchbox.
I have one and absolutely love it. With a Behringer 808 copy into the front, it's under 200 bucks (not including cab) of brutal tones. Highly recommend.
I recently got a Joyo Zombie II 20w head, which is comparable to this one, but with darker American voicing. These mini heads LOVE a Tube Screamer out front, particularly with tuning down to C# or so. Chug is not the word....

I have an Orange Micro Dark w/Micro dark practice amp and it sounds awesome with a 92 Martin herringbone with a Lawrence pick up, circa 98. It Ac/DC's like crazy
They got this thing so damn close to gig worthy. Right on the line. Plenty loud. Plenty of great tone for Chords plenty of sustain. Plenty of low end. Harmonic layers. It is all there. It loses clarity for single note/ string separation just enough to make you question if you should use it live. For metal … where clarity isn’t a huge priority … I would use it. For anything that requires clarity… it is right on the fence. Maybe an EQ pedal helps. Not sure.
I knew the answer as I own one. I wasn’t an Orange fan either until I got the Microdark. It is a killer amp. Now, I just have to try it out with a band and see if it can hang live.

I use an Orange Micro Terror as a slave amp with my Mesa Nomad 100. I have a pair of them. Wish my Orange Micro Terrors had fx loops like the Micro Dark. I have the amps clean and flat. The Mesa Nomad 100's preamp does all the work.
Am I the only one who actually loves the cleans on this amp? It's not super loud, but for a bedroom player like me it still gets loud enough before breakup :)

Agreed, EQ in the loop really makes it come alive, especially at high gain, but it's great for clean tone sculpting too.

I've got an Orange Micro Terror and it's incredible. It won't chug by itself, but the clean and rock tones are so good.

It's a hybrid with a preamp tube. That's why it sounds good. I have one parked on my pedalboard as a backup.
That OD pedal tightened it up like prom night.

The sweet spot is around 1-2 o’clock on the tone dial, not too much scooped mids
