+Soulhenge Gear Reviews Any plans on reviewing the Mooer ge200?? I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts on it and how you think it stacks up vs the hd500 and helix
Well I do believe I shot myself in the foot here so just ignore me lol. Just watched your unboxing video for the ge200 and in that video you said you were planning on checking it out and seeing how it was next to the hd500. I can't wait to see!
I actually own the Orange Micro Dark so I might be a bit partial, but I think it has the most balanced tone. When your throw an Overdrive, eq, and a noise gate on it sounds amazing.
That sounds like a lot for someone starting out. I used to play bass and I'm taking up electric guitar now too. I don't wanna have to buy two pedals when I'm going cheap like this on an amp
I'm also a bit partial with my opinion, the Pirahna 6505 sounded like ass when I tried it. I fiddled with all the knobs, tried different speakers, crunch vs lead channels, nothing sounded good out of it when I tested. So either all the piranhas on YT are modified or the one I tested was broken.
Nate Gin get a used overdrive for under $70 on Reverb. You got to get a certain amount of gear to achieve any certain tone, it just depends how much research you want to do to save yourself money
SticksAndStones I own a Micro Dark too, swapped out the pre-amp tube for a JJ Gold Pin 12AU7. Use it as a pedal platform with EQ, Gate, Delay and reverb in FX Loop, front End with a Jet City dual Overdrive, ProCo Rat, EHX Big Muff OpAmp, Boss CS-3 Compressor. My cab is a Panama oversized 2x10, Gibson LP Studio and Fender Jazzmaster. I have played legit shows in large and small venues (large as in 1k people) on the regular with that setup and it’s shocking how good this amp sounds. I liked the OG tube but stacking Drives, distortions and fuzz was a nightmare. The tube swap helped out tremendously. I can push the amp and tube hard and it takes effects and my drives beautifully.
Great video! I own the MicroDark and I have a couple of comments. First, I basically agree with all you’ve said except about the Orange not being for metal. Depends on what kind of metal. I play more doomy, down-tempo stuff and when you crank the gain, with the Shape knob at noon it’s a massive slab of sound. Second, the headphone out DOES have a cab sim on it. It’s not as bad as you describe-not the best but not bad at all. When you put it through a 4x12 all the negative aspects seems to disappear. Lastly, about the volume.....yeah, I hate when amp companies have a volume knob with with 80% of the volume in the first 10% of the pot. Also, for truly. brutal tones use a boost into it fully cranked. It’s doom in a box.
I tried MicroDark yesterday in music store with 212 V30s and MXR boost, I play mostly metalcore, deathcore and stuff like gojira and it sounded fucking great! The trick for good metal Orange tone is that Oranges have that sweet spot near max of the gain! Now I want to sell my Boss Katana (home practise amp) and buy this because this sounds a lot better!!!
I own one as well. I'm not sure if someone at Orange is into sludge but that slab of sound lasts well into Drop A territory. It's amazing but that volume knob... such sweet sorrow.
I got mine Recently. I use it for old-school Thrash/Speed Metal, with a Ibanez TS9 in front of it. At the end of the day, it's how you set the tone know on the amp that matters, as having it at around 1 - 2 o'clock will sound tighter, than having it at anything before 12 o'clock, which sounds more muddy and thick and good for doom/sludge stuff. Your speakers also play a key part. The Orange cab I have with ot is a bit crap, and I mostly use ot for practice, however when recording I use Ignite Amps NadIR with Slayer Impulse Responses, which results in a thrashier tone. In fact, while amps can change your tone's character, it's the speakers that will make or break said tone, as they're what actually puts your sound out there into the physical realm, for people to hear. Honestly, I find the Orange sounds really heavy and is a massive step up from Amp Sims, as my tone now has more body and sounds professional.
@@AnkothOfficial The Orange has excellent dynamics even when cranked. I recently picked up the Orange Pedalbaby 100 to solve the 'not loud enough' issue. Killer piece of gear. Also, the MD fulfills an important criteria-I can use the tone for rhythm and lead and both sound excellent.
I bought one with the impression "small amp small sound" good for 1 bedroom apartment ... I have never played past a 2 on volume. Its loud and very nice.
@@xvor_tex8577 this will be my first head and cabinet amp I’m getting because I have used combos for the last 4 years and I was gonna start small and get either the joyo or orange in this video but do U have any recommendations on a good cabinet?
Finally a productive comparison between the micro amps. I'm really digging about it in order to buy one of those, and this video made my decision. I'll go with Zombie, for sure! Thank you so much.
The Micro Dark is my sound. Boost ->noise gate->MD full gain, Shape knob about noon, with a Cuvave Dig Reverb in the loop, all knobs fully counterclockwise. Into a Barefaced 2x12. Totally and completely crushing. Insane but controllable. Vary the gain with your pick attack. Get clean/dirty with the volume knob of your guitar. You are so correct about the taper of the Volume pot. You hit 60% of the volume before 2 on the knob. Even with one channel, Shape knob, Volume knob issues it’s a great amplifier.
Man I love the attitude of your music; that smokey, meaty sound and those calm but dark chords really have a special something to them. Keep up the great work, greetings from Austria
Orange is the winner. Volume, tone ,dynamics, will always win. It's EQ'd to get killer tones fast, if you use it to gig as a stand alone, and most times any lack you find can be fixed with a OD, Pre Amp, or EQ pedal , that's why OD pedals like Tube Screamers and Klons have such a mid boost. If the Orange didn't have tube like qualities I wouldn't have bought it.

@@djtripnosys hell yeah, duder. I am a heavy proselytizer for Joyo. I, seriously, think that we have them to thank for pioneering this amazing movement of boutique level effects and products, at prices that are basically rivaled by...strings lmao
Piranha was buried in the mix. Joyo stood out surprisingly well, powerful low end and plenty of articulation. Micro dark was impressive for the intro with the dynamics, but it turned a bit muddy past that.
I personally think that the Joyo Bantamp Zombie is a very good sounding little amp... especially for the money. Reminds me a lot of how the Marshall Valvestate amps sounded. They share the same sort of tech, so it’s no wonder (a single 12AX7 tube paired with a solid state power amp). For me it’s somewhat of a nostalgic sound... as when I was growing up and learning how to play, I had a Valvestate combo amp that I loved. It’s tone was amazing.
My brother sent me this video. Hadn't come across this channel before and I wouldn't have considered an amp like this, but I'm now I'm thinking I might have to. Great video man.
Just got a micro dark and I run it throw a bass cab. Sounds absolutely dope. I can get a good Matt Pike tone that way. The other tone I can get nicely is a Scott Ian tone. A bass cab really fattens it up and to me works great without needing an overdrive.
I built a custom cab when I used to play metalcore, it is a 2 speaker cab, one 10 and one 12. I had to make a little bit of a tricky circuit to allow the signal to split and distribute properly....god damn, actually I remember that being such a crazy project lmao. But in the end it was absolutely worth it as it gave me singing and wild highs and fucking disgusting bass-laden chugs. It ripped tits. I sold it to a band that I started with who got signed, dude bought it for 2000$ lmao. I put maybe 550$ into it and a weekend of time
I was thinking of doing this for doom, stoner tones, heavy gaze tones. Are you driving some 15s or what? I heard anything above 15 might get muddy and it takes longer for the sound waves to form so people at your gig might not hear it as well.
@@Ritual_Gaze so the cab I’m using was a Marshall MB60 that took a spill and ripped the Jack off the board. Took out the head to replace the Jack then one of my dogs got on the table and stepped all in it lol So I just use it as a cab now and that head sits on a shelf cause idk shit about fixing all that. So it’s a 12 inch. I don’t know what speaker is actually in there but it’s probably listed on an old site somewhere. Wish I knew.
Awesome video man! This was a perfect comparison video and i think the Joyo sounded the best. It had a certain warmth to it that i absolutely loved. Keep up the good work! Greetings from India!
I put a tube screamer before mine. And that fixes the weirdness of the mids and gives it that hi end thing your talkin about. Highly recommend doin that! Talkin about the zombie.
Great shootout video! To me, it was hard to tell the difference in the mix, but when you played them separately, I very clearly preferred the Joyo.It has less fizz, and is tighter and chunkier. I just wish it had a foot switch to switch channels, and a pre amp out so you can use it as a pre amp.
The Joyo overdelivers more than any amp I've ever played, but the weird honkey mid sound is a little annoying at lower volumes. You turn it up super loud and they get drowned out and it just sounds like a Mesa Dual Rectifier and shakes your house. Wildly fun to play.
As an orange micro dark owner I can say that you have pointed out all of the issues that I had found with the orange I love it anyway as well! Good video keepem coming!
Amazing video, even though I'm much more of a metalcore guy I went with the Orange for my first amp in ages (played off my PC for the past...8 years?) and with the right pedals I think I could get a super unique, incredibly responsive tone.
I heard a raw clip with the first gen Zombie, it sounds huge. Although people say it's modled after the Rectifier it's much much tighter, so if you're going for serious metal tone, the Joyo should be the best bet, I'm considering going for the MkII amp, 2 seperate channels with a footswtich
Really depends on what speakers you have. Ihave the Zombie 2, I have old UK Celestion Hot 100s (didn't care for it). Celestion Seventy 80s (sounds nice, usable tones). Even tried them with my katana speakers (wasn't impressed), Then I got a Neo Creamback 16 ohm and Eminence dv77 16 ohm. They both sound great on their own with the Zombie, I love them together in 8 ohm load.
The Peavey has some mojo actually. I'm not really a fan of that sad face EQ modern metal sound (it sounds mid heavy, but leaves no room for bass and treble and kind of sounds squashed) but with some EQ I think I'd quite like that amp. I can see how it would work in a DAW environment. My pick honestly has to go to the orange though, the depth is there. But you never know when watching someone else, gonna go try these out myself :)
Hello, I'm from Brazil, I found your channel for some time. I would like to congratulate you on the quality of the content you produce. In my country access to some quality equipment is very difficult, any product arrives here for at least double the original value, be it a guitar, amplifier, etc.
Sim bro, é foda. In Europe you just find for E$ 370,00 a Laney Irt-studio and in Brazil at least not double but triple of the original value, plus, working with brazilian money it's like something impossible to achieve, just terrible.
I actually like the original Orange Micro Terror over the Dark Terror. It's lower gain, but with an tube screamer overdrive acting as a boost, I get much tighter sounding metal tones ironically. It also, like you described, really feels like a real tube amp with that lovely response to your picking. Of all my amps (including all-tube amps), it's quite possibly my favorite amp as it has that gorgeous glassy clean sound when dialed back, and a really rich luscious overdrive that can do metal when a combined with a tube screamer. The only thing that makes me sad is that it has no FX loop. The perfect amp would be a two channel Micro Terror with an FX loop for a graphic EQ and reverb. I just ordered the Zombie 2 which unlike the one you demoed on this 6 yr old video (wow can't believe that much time has flown by) truly has two independent channels and a foot switch to change between them. It also has an FX loop. So I'm really looking forward to recording with it.
Yes I'm still happy with it. I mainly use it when I'm travelling and can't use my full size stay at home tube amps. it's plenty loud to jam with If you use a decent cabinet like a 2 x12 or even 1 X 12 would do. Stay away from the micro cabs with 8 or 10 inch speakers. I have a mini Randall cab with an 8 inch speaker and it's gutless. It comes with an FX loop so you can throw an EQ pedal into it and get whatever sound you want basically. If I'm not mistaken the new version Joyo Bantamp II comes with a footswitch and 2 independent channels so you can dial in each channel to whatever sound you want and then just footswitch between them. Huge improvement over my original one. You can't get a better high gain tube sound for $250 IMO.@@shakebabyhitler
I am considering buying the Zombie. I own an Orange Micro Terror, am still on a budget and would like a cheap 20 watt amp that can do both clean and overdriven american sounds. You told me everything I needed to know, thank you !!
Laney>Orange>Joyo>Peavey. I think. The only thing I wouldn't buy is the Peavey. That's funny, cos' 5150 and 6505 (MH) just means amazing tone. But not the Piranha. For me. Good video as always. :)
Great playing, there’s something about the orange amps that sit well in the mix better. I’ve heard the white orange micro amp in a mix on another demo and it sat better than the joyo also then.
I own Micro dark there is cab simulation from the headphone out, as for it not being a metal amp it’s old school you use a pedal of your choice to get the metal tone you want. As for the shaping knob don’t think of it as an eq think amp styling knob so 7-12ish is moving from a Marshall style sound through to a Vox ac-30 sounds so British amps. Going past 12 you’re getting Mesa through to Fender style sounds. This is an Orange 🍊 so not exact replicas but just giving the feel you need. This amp is an amazing pedal platform so if you need more frequency control get an eq pedal, more gain get a metal zone for all the gain running through the loop, a good reverb and delay and you’ll be on your way to a very versatile/adaptable amp. Also running it through a large cab you could easily gig small venues and get over a drummer with this amp. The other two amps have their place to me they sound a bit boring. Orange 🍊 has a legendary back ground and the magic is the dynamics that orange amps have to understand what this means you have to try one then you’ll understand what people are on about because when you play on an amp that’s very dynamic it feels like having massive sounds at your fingertips. Have fun now 😎
i am surpised that you choose the orange micro dark i prefer the sound of the Joyo zombie in the demo i just bought the micro dark at a pawn shop this Wednesday got for $140.00 was on sale original price was $160.00 lol thank you for the video demo i also hit Subcribed
Would've been very bad if the Laney didn't crush them. I think the Joyo and Orange sounded good, but they are not a 60w all tube metal amp. Of course, I'm a tad biased as I own a Laney IRT60H.
Yeah clearly and the Laney even has super old tubes and has definitely seen better days. Will replace the tubes some time and see how big the difference is of old and new tubes
gimme dat ge200 review boi (also mooer might have a track record of shitty mac support with the ge200 studio but w/e) on topic, I totally agree with what you're saying about the piranha. supposed to be a 'mini 6505' but to me it doesn't sound like a 6505/5150 or anything like it AT ALL. guess the 6505 branding is only there to sell the bugger
Zombie has the most gain, and sounds the most like a full-fledged tube amplifier. Peavey has something weird going on with the midrange, and Orange has hard distortion mostly resembling a transistor amp.
This is the second preview of the Joyo and really enjoyed it. As a Metal player the Joyo sounds really cool and as in the other video it has a Mesa type tone which I like. On your review it does give it more Metal than the Orange. The Orange is alright but not as heavy as the Joyo. I'd like to connect two Joyo;s in an ABY switch box and run both at the same time with a V30 speaker and EMG pickups.
the orange obviously sounded the best, but it REALLY clicked with the pedal, having crunch and clean tones, it does lack in lead power, as the high notes in crunch still sound a bit flat, that pedal gave the md what it needed in the highs.
Nice video man! I have a question. Would you reccomend me to get a joyo zombie and a harley benton cab and use my pod hd500x only for effects or get the mooer radar and a frfr speaker? If the second, which speaker would you reccomend for 200-300 euros? Thanks! Keep up the good work
I have listened to some good tube amps and you are correct in saying the Orange is a rock amp, it produces the best sound overall, it also produces better clarity. And judging by what you were playing I would say it sounded much better than the other two. However in saying this I would also say the joyo would be better for heavy metal. You don't get that crisp sound like the orange produced. Of course It may just be a matter of fiddling with the knobs to get the sound better but I would get the orange over the other two. But then I do like that old tube sound over the digital sound.
The orange and the joyo are essentially the same. These are all analog. Basically solid state. One tube would not have that much gain in the preamp. Doubtful it has that much of an effect on the tone m
Fun Fact about Orange, the Orange Shape (middle knob) is like a time travel of sounds, if is 9 O'Clock your tone should sound something like from the 70s and 80s, and if is on 12 O'clock then is more of a late 80s and 90s tone, and if you blast it far on the other end, then it suppose to have that modern rock or "metal" tone. think of it this way Doom Metal, or bands like Pentagram set it to 10 or 9 O'clock with Gain in the middle between 2 O'clock and 5pm O'clock with LOL Volume as high as 7 or 8 O'clock If you want that Pantera Walk song sounds, I would say 9am at Volume, 1pm on Shape and gain at 5pm and Mudvayne tone then volume at 8am, shape to max and gain whatever you can find but after noon. Other than that have fun!
The Zombie wins, I got one and put a Mesa Boogie NOS 12ax7 in it from reverb and made it even better. The Joyo amp tubes suck but 12ax7 tubes are affordable enough to get a couple and try out a few to see which one you like the most. Put a New Mesa Boogie 12AX7 / ECC83 Preamp Tube in the zombie and it makes it even better.
I think people really underestimate the peavey. Yep, it is way to thick. But you know what? Stick an eq in the back and it beats the shit out of the others. Having too much is always better than having too little, in Audio it’s always easier to take away than to add something that isn’t there.
Strongly agree here. On lower-price amps it's extremely important to throw an EQ pedal somewhere to tame the loose end or any unwanted frequencies. MXR 10-Band EQ does a pretty good job

@@Ritual_Gaze so the cab I’m using was a Marshall MB60 that took a spill and ripped the Jack off the board. Took out the head to replace the Jack then one of my dogs got on the table and stepped all in it lol
So I just use it as a cab now and that head sits on a shelf cause idk shit about fixing all that. So it’s a 12 inch. I don’t know what speaker is actually in there but it’s probably listed on an old site somewhere. Wish I knew.
@@nickdrey1200 I’m not familiar with that speaker combo but I definitely want to check it out now 👍
check out the newer 2 channel joyo amps, big improvement imo, cheers 🎸
That's why I got a Zombie XLII, with separate knobs for each channel and a foot switch.
Great demo! That X2N's output is nuts
Thanks, the X2N has indeed an incredible amount of output and force!
The Joyo overdelivers more than any amp I've ever played, but the weird honkey mid sound is a little annoying at lower volumes. You turn it up super loud and they get drowned out and it just sounds like a Mesa Dual Rectifier and shakes your house. Wildly fun to play.
Thanks for the honest review.
As an orange micro dark owner I can say that you have pointed out all of the issues that I had found with the orange I love it anyway as well! Good video keepem coming!
I love the drums during the breakdown section especially when the cymbal goes to the offbeat! Very tasteful.
In the mix i like the orange tone and the laney, too.
Offroader-WardenburgDE british steel ftw
Amazing video, even though I'm much more of a metalcore guy I went with the Orange for my first amp in ages (played off my PC for the past...8 years?) and with the right pedals I think I could get a super unique, incredibly responsive tone.
i truly enjoyed your presentation. .you made sense and i could really see and hear your comparisons.
I’m still stuck between the Orange Micro Dark and the Joyo Zombie 2 😫,... I’m not sure which to get.
Both
Really depends on what speakers you have.
The more recent Zombie II beats all of these as it has separate EQ for each channel and a footswitch to change channels
i really dig your content! and you have a really polite vibe :)
the micro dark has built in cab sim of an orange 4x12 on the headphone out
I actually like the original Orange Micro Terror over the Dark Terror.
I liked the Peavey the most, then the Orange and lastly the Joyo.
Dude, you need more subs.
Great walkthrough.
Out of the three lunchboxes, I liked the joyo more lol
Same here!
Yeah me too... hell.. i may even get one now.. or at least added it to the list of buying potential.. nice little thing, compared!
vomitoriumbassist heyo
I have the Joyo Zombie. It's good. It definitely needs a boost or overdrive however!
How's the joyo on a 4x12 cab?
The joyo sounds incredible for a budget brand. $230 canadian you can't go wrong. I just ordered one.
Where did you order from, and how long did it take to arrive? I'm curious 'cause I'm in Canada too.
I think I ordered it from Amazon. It's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.@@shakebabyhitler
@@craigharrison5406 Wow, thanks for the quick reply!! Still happy with it, and is it loud enough to jam with drums and bass?
You can't get a better high gain tube sound for $250 IMO.@@shakebabyhitler
really enjoyed the comparison and review. Great video!
Hey man, you should do another demo with an eq pedal in the loop
I am considering buying the Zombie. I own an Orange Micro Terror, am still on a budget and would like a cheap 20 watt amp that can do both clean and overdriven american sounds. You told me everything I needed to know, thank you !!
That's a beautiful guitar
Absolutely cool comparison
Just got the Zombie and it's a kickass little box to my ears.
Laney>Orange>Joyo>Peavey. I think. The only thing I wouldn't buy is the Peavey. That's funny, cos' 5150 and 6505 (MH) just means amazing tone. But not the Piranha. For me. Good video as always. :)
Great video man! I love your channel. Always honest, and you do great analyzation.
Great playing, there’s something about the orange amps that sit well in the mix better. I’ve heard the white orange micro amp in a mix on another demo and it sat better than the joyo also then.
I don't own any of these, but that Peavey was badass
Have fun now 😎
Well done review, im going with Joyo Zombie. Have you tried the MV50 yet?
Thoughts? Try the mc50?
My Zombie with a Boss Metal Zone through the FX loop and a noise gate pushing 2x12 Celestion is My home rig. sometimes with headphones.
i am surpised that you choose the orange micro dark i prefer the sound of the Joyo zombie in the demo
i just bought the micro dark at a pawn shop this Wednesday got for $140.00 was on sale original price was $160.00 lol thank you for the video demo i also hit Subcribed
Best option: Zombie and Orange in parallel haha.
Zombie for more metal, orange for rock, or blend the two for a thick stereo sound.
amazing avaliable!! congrats!!
Laney crushed em. Great video!
Would've been very bad if the Laney didn't crush them. I think the Joyo and Orange sounded good, but they are not a 60w all tube metal amp.
Of course, I'm a tad biased as I own a Laney IRT60H.
Ray Torvalds yeah most of the little guys struggle with a SS power section and bitty transformer.
If I couldn't make as much noise as I can where I am now, without people calling the police on me. I would go for the Orange.
Yeah clearly and the Laney even has super old tubes and has definitely seen better days. Will replace the tubes some time and see how big the difference is of old and new tubes
he said orange is still too loud for bedroom though
Great review as always!
Could you compare the joyo zombie and the joyo vivo (5150 micro clone)
Matthew Short I’m deciding which one to get. I play a lot of metalcore, thrash and yeah
Matthew Short yes plz
@@gibsoadstudios648 which one did you get? since i can't afford 6505, my only options are only these two
O K I would go with the orange! The joyo is great too if you want more of a tighter tone. I personally like the orange sound
if you want an example of good metal tone with the micro dark listen to agressive by beartooth
Love the guitar! What kind?
Great comparison.
It would be more sense to compare Orange with Joyo MeteOR, which actually produces orange'ish kind of sound.
gimme dat ge200 review boi (also mooer might have a track record of shitty mac support with the ge200 studio but w/e)
on topic, I totally agree with what you're saying about the piranha. supposed to be a 'mini 6505' but to me it doesn't sound like a 6505/5150 or anything like it AT ALL. guess the 6505 branding is only there to sell the bugger
I thought the Orange sounded best in the mix
nice video mate
Beautiful guitar

Deep down I wanted you to like the peavey. But everybody knows it's terrible x)
I love it.
I bought Peavey 6505 Piranha micro and 6505 1x8” for great price; now for an overdrive pedal!
Very nice review brother!
It would be really cool if you did a video on the Seymour Duncan Palladium and Powerstage 170!
that laney sounds incredible
Can you gig with these?
I though the Orange sounded best, until I heard the Laney, sounds epic!
Soulhenge, that is a bad ass guitar!
To anyone who owns the Orange... TRY DIFFERENT 12ax7 TUBES. Its absolutely amazing how much they change the sound & gain in this little bugger.
Jojo, because it sounds good and cheap
Looks like a dimarzio x2n or d activator x bridge pickup
What if you were to add a clean booster, as well as a few more pedals to the chain. Would that fix that weird clean, low, and odd mids?
From this sample the Orange actually sounds pretty dang close to your Ironheart
Both British focused distortions.
DUDE ! Four minutes 30 seconds before you start, get into it big boy. Less chat more action 😎
This definitely has me thinking
That's what im talking about, and if you mix that with one Seymour Duncan powerstage you will have a monster of 170W of power
I think the orange sounded best overall. The only complaint is that it doesn't make the pinch harmonics scream like the zombie.
