Nice... the crunch sounds like King's X. IIRC Ty Tabor's Gibson Lab Series amps were awesome solid state monsters, and that's my reference there for your crunch tone.
I like how there was such a turnabout on the Boss metal zone. I can’t tell you how many videos I saw or other RUclipsrs talking about how the “Metal zone” pedal was the worst pedal ever made and reading the comments section most people tended to concur. Now the boss metal zone is known as a quality pedal with a massive sound. It’s an interesting topic for me because I’ve always used a boss metal zone ever since like 1994. And always thought it was a really good all-around distortion pedal that made you sound fucking awesome. I’m glad it’s finally getting the praise it deserves. Shit, do you remember the DOD Death metal pedal? That shit sucked! It was a valiant effort but by comparison the boss metal zone was truly at a step above. 🤘
Lol I loved the DOD death metal pedal......for recording on cassette four tracks it was PERFECT....live? Not at all. Hot trash. Good for recording tho- wish I still had one
I have this exact rig, with the exception being that I got the Harley Benton *vertical* 2x12, because I liked the sound reviews better. I use a BBE Sonic Maximizer through the effects loop and the sound is full, bright, and crisp. The Duncan Solar pickups on my A1.7DVV give me the versatility to reach any tonal range I could possibly shoot for.
@@adalbertusignatius4967 well i trust ola that if he likes it it must be great, besides ive seen lots of video with di and cab recordings.... Those things are so variable that i dont mind.

@@adalbertusignatius4967 well tone is subjective, depends what you need, the best tone to play along with is not the best tone for a guitar in a mix. I use Bias Fx for recordings aswell.
It's a modeling amp though so really it's just about how much work they put into the software, and the katana range had been known for good tones for a while.
nice rig..I own the Boss Katana MKII 2×12 and I love it..also make sure you are hooking your android or iPhone directly to the amp by using a OTG and USB chord..it makes life so much easier and you still get all the Boss Tone Studio options and more!
As a techie student, for live sound I've had someone come in with a line 6 pod go and DI box, part of me was like yay no need to have extra stage noise, then part of me was like boo everyone now needs guitars into the monitors. I'm also a guitarist, and I personally would rather use a modeller on stage and have my own IEM rig. I've also seen many videos on running 3 HX stomps, 3 Iem rigs, all in one rack case. And personally this is what I'd recommend for bands who are getting out of pub venues and into larger scale venues, if you take the hx stomps and put them on stage you could probably fit another iem rig into the rack case
I have a Katana head in addition to a PRS Archon 50, Carvin 100XB, Rocktron Taboo Twin, Blackstar HD20, and Quilter 101 head. I have used the Katana live and at practice, super easy to carry, great for home use with the variable wattage and monitor speaker in the head. It’s something I grab when I need it all in one package and a smaller rig with loudness potential.
Harley benton 4x12 + joyo zombie + cheap drive such as Boss-SD1 and a cheap delay pedal like mooer. but thats a bit over budget but it will be loud enough.
I play a schecter hellraiser with emg 81/85 through a B-52 AT100 and a Randall 4x12 cab. I bought the B-52 AT100 for $200 and I’m very impressed by it. I’ve had it for 8 years and have loved the tones it gives. I’d like to see you test a B-52 AT100. Love the videos btw 🤘🏻
Jet City 100HDM and a Harley benton g212 vintage. High gain monster and it sounds amazing! I think Thomann has now taken the 100HDM out of the assortment, but somewhere there will still be the amp. 100/50W full tube, crunch and overdrive channel, depth control. . . everything you need for high gain, and although it only has one crunch channel, you can drive it super clean if you play around a bit and try it out. Better than the cheap Bugera amps, which quickly break down hardware (I speak from experience). The Jet city has been with me for 4 years now and does its job reliably. I can only recommend anyone with low budged! I bought him as a beginner and still love him as an advanced.
Been using my MK2 100 Watt Head with a Marshall 4x12 CAB -- for over a year now . It hasnt let me down for a second. But I am thinking of upgrading soon but only because im going to studio soon to record my album . It still sounds awesome and I highly recommend it !
Dangit Ola, it's like you read my frickin mind!! I was already planning on buying this EXACT setup, except with the vertical slanted 2x12 instead. Thank you for the wonderful demo, especially since it has the raw camera audio so we know what it sounds like from a distance (it's incredible)!
Dont buy a zoom! You get much better sound with interface into pc and plugins like STL tonality or I use mostly bias fx 2. But you have to know much about pedals and their order. But ths good thing is, on tonecloud are thousands of presets, also from artists and withbgood IR files it sounds really good. My zoom sounds like a toy compared to this.
I stared in bitter, seething scorn at the malignant mug you defiantly placed atop the amp for the whole time you were playing. Thank you for the video.
Don't forget that the Katana Head has a built-in speaker, which means for you young people with limited budgets, leave your cab at the rehearsal space and bring the amp home and keep practicing in the bedroom. That little 4" speaker sounds surprisingly good. (Also the acoustic mode is for use with piezo-acoustic guitars, it's not an acoustic emulator, like in some amps.) I'm not sponsored by Boss either, but I 'm open to it. :-)
I got my 6262 on Musicians Friend for $249 brand new. Poor man's 6505+. Treat it well and it'll treat you well. Deals exist if you do your homework or get lucky.
I use a Peavy Citation Mark VIII bass head, Peavey 2x15 and a Kustom 2x12. An Ibanez Destroyer II (86' model) with an EMG 85 at the bridge and two Telecaster Silvers side by side at the neck. I installed individual volume and tone control for each pick up. I use a few different pedal set ups for different styles of music, I play outlaw country, blues, hardcore punk and metal. I have been building this piece by piece since I was thirteen and I am 38 now. total spent on my rig including pedals is $800-$900. I got all of it through pawnshops and yard sales over the years and just kept what I liked. You couldn't put this same rig together for anywhere near that now. I only paid $100 bucks for the Peavey amp and cab, $25 for the Kustom 2x12. $100 for the guitar and got the pick ups free from friends that changed theirs out. The pedals are all from finding deals over the years and some were gifts. My more modern stuff is more expensive but I still love my main rig, it's never let me down and sounds insanely heavy or as twangy and pretty as I need. Any new players out there needs this one piece of advice, do not be afraid to buy used and pawn shops in small towns with drug problems always have hidden gems for real cheap. Also don't sell your old pedals unless you have too, sometimes you get something that doesn't quite sound perfect and later get setting else and pair the two and you can fall in love, even cheap pedals are worth holding onto. Do not get stuck on brands, it can cause you to miss out on a lot of potential.
This. The 22H is an amazing amp and would be perfect. The 50H frequently sells for well under $400 when new as well and would provide additional headroom.
Shhh don't tell everyone how great they are or the price will go thru the roof. They suck and sound like an angry can of bees they are super unreliable and smell funny.
I have the costum22 its awesome. The first Channel is nearly a jcm800 and the dirty ist rly awesome, but in my Opinion active emgs doesnt Sound good in the Combination

My son started out with exact the same cab and a Peavey Valveking I. With his Ibanez GIO and bis Ibanez Prestige MiJ he had great metal tones, not far away from a 5150.
I love my Katana 50 combo, I recently purchased a Joyo vintage overdrive pedal and have been putting it in front of the katana even though it really is a great amp without any pedals because of its versatility, however the Joyo pedal makes for some really fun tones to experiment with, a bargain price for a great sounding pedal and amp. I totally agree with this set up, great job Ola!

Petition for Ola redoing this as a "Rig of the week" or "In the room", with the new room mics and neumann etc..
This is my setup except with a 4x12. Can confirm it rocks. Recently played my very first show with it and it was amazing to see people moshing to my katana rig. It does HEAVY.

Bruh, I need those patches! That clean tone is one of if not the best clean tones I’ve ever heard!
When the rig is so good that his room is falling apart. "I'm totally not trying to sell this!"
Nice... the crunch sounds like King's X.
I thought the Metal Zone sucked back then and still think it sucks. Why? Cos it sucks.
Lol I loved the DOD death metal pedal......for recording on cassette four tracks it was PERFECT....live? Not at all. Hot trash. Good for recording tho- wish I still had one
Ditto, same story here. 👊🏻
I actually have the 1x12 v30 with the randall rg1503, really loud, saving up for a 2x12 or 4x12 tho, but the 1x12 is even loud enough for gigging
a million thanks ... was looking into buying literally the exact same rig. Now i know how it will sound. Thanks Master Ola!
With the room mic (maybe he forgot to record the other microphone) you dont know how it really sounds xD
@@adalbertusignatius4967 well i trust ola that if he likes it it must be great, besides ive seen lots of video with di and cab recordings.... Those things are so variable that i dont mind.
@@lkzprd yes thats a point! I havent informed about it further, because due to loudness i am forced to use plugins like stl or bias fx and after a while tweaking, right ir files etc, i get a way better tone than in his bias video. If i were him i would delete this because bias doesnt sound that bad :/
@@adalbertusignatius4967 well tone is subjective, depends what you need, the best tone to play along with is not the best tone for a guitar in a mix. I use Bias Fx for recordings aswell.
That's a CHUNKY rhythm tone, damn! And I totally wasn't expecting the crunch to be so dynamic in a transistor amp. The future is here, I guess!
It's a modeling amp though so really it's just about how much work they put into the software, and the katana range had been known for good tones for a while.
notice how Ola restrained himself from doing his signature pentatonic 'tu-tu-di-di' lick at 9:06
It was a little big strange that you reviewed my rig :)
nice rig..I own the Boss Katana MKII 2×12 and I love it..also make sure you are hooking your android or iPhone directly to the amp by using a OTG and USB chord..it makes life so much easier and you still get all the Boss Tone Studio options and more!
The intro kills me it's possibly the funniest thing I've seen in a while
I have a Katana head in addition to a PRS Archon 50, Carvin 100XB, Rocktron Taboo Twin, Blackstar HD20, and Quilter 101 head. I have used the Katana live and at practice, super easy to carry, great for home use with the variable wattage and monitor speaker in the head. It’s something I grab when I need it all in one package and a smaller rig with loudness potential.
Assumed there would be a Harley Benton Cab, thought the head might be the Zombie though. Sounds pretty good!
Jbf Music & Guitar I have a zombie and it’s awesome! I’m only using a 1x12 and it gets pretty loud. I’m not playing live with it though.
@@mattlombardi54 Picked up one of the 1 x 12 cabs fairly recently, I think it sounds great!
nice advice ola!! Im about to buy the boss katana head!! I had the cab for 1 year already and just need that amp damn
What song/band is he playing at 6:07? Especially at 6:20 - 6:30, it sounds wicked!
He is just improvising, you can hear a lot of the same stuff in his other gear testing videos.
My live rig: Randall rd45h (open box deal at $250) and a Marshall 1960 4x12 (used at $250).
that rig would destroy this rig. Its like c'mon ola I play metal not top 40 hits
Hey Ola, love your videos! Would love to get those patches!
Harley benton 4x12 + joyo zombie + cheap drive such as Boss-SD1 and a cheap delay pedal like mooer. but thats a bit over budget but it will be loud enough.
The joyo stuff could work for sure.
Put an EVH on one of those Harley Benton cabs
Im not into metal but Ola is a great presenter and his context is top notch!!
I recognize that quick picture at the beginning of the full stacks. That’s Dinosaur Jr.’s rig 😂
I knew it was gonna be a Harley Benton. Nothing comes close value wise.
Ola could you do a video of the Mooer Baby Bomb 30w into the Harley Benton 2x12 running your Fortin Nameless or NTS! Love the channel bud keep it up 🤘
What are the Settings for the leads at 9:00. Or what settings should i have to get that tone

Been using my MK2 100 Watt Head with a Marshall 4x12 CAB -- for over a year now . It hasnt let me down for a second. But I am thinking of upgrading soon but only because im going to studio soon to record my album . It still sounds awesome and I highly recommend it !
was hoping for a bugera head. bugera plus od pedal = awesome.
That Harley Benton cab is no joke. I purchased the vertical one and it’s killer! We are truly living in the golden age of guitar playing.
Forgot to record with the mic? :P
We're to spoiled having only a room mic :
Well, it's supposed to be a live rig, so it's actually legit
+1 🤔
@@VoiceKulaka live rigs are usually miced up though? 🤔 Whaddya mean?🤨
@@Alexanderzzzzon I didn't mean it was intentional. I mean it's kinda legit the way it happened.
I'm still hoping you can demo the Zoom G3XN good sir... Hehehe... Love the Katana...
@@adalbertusignatius4967 I agree with you My friend... But I'm really curious how our friend Ola can make the Zoom G3XN sound massive and amazing....
I stared in bitter, seething scorn at the malignant mug you defiantly placed atop the amp for the whole time you were playing.
Thank you for the video.
And with the remaining $64 (us) you can find a used Boss GA-FC foot controller for the head
Used 6505 and a used Harley Benton 212 v30 one 😀
Yea but thats like 800€ at best
5an7y I guess it depends where you live, but here a 6505 costs 5-600€ used and the harley benton is around 100-150€
I got my 6262 on Musicians Friend for $249 brand new. Poor man's 6505+. Treat it well and it'll treat you well. Deals exist if you do your homework or get lucky.
The katana 100 head is the best apartment amp also.with the 5 what mode. And built in speaker
Boss has always been good enough. Always.
Hey Ola, have you checked out the Jet City Amps? I have the Jet City 22h 20watt guitar head and it sounds killer boosted with an SD1!!
This. The 22H is an amazing amp and would be perfect. The 50H frequently sells for well under $400 when new as well and would provide additional headroom.
Also have the 22H, it's great.

Add $100 for the Boss Foot Controller to get the most out of it though.
I was also wondering how is going to change patches during a live show. To be fair, he must add the cost of a foot controller.
I think the 100 watt ones come with a footswitch

DA-2 Adaptive Distortion Boss - Will It Chug???
I have a katana 100 2x12 and can never get that amount of gain at 6:06 even on brown channel with gain and OD dimed and strike the strings real hard. is it because of my guitar pickup itself?
Ola making up new words: un-veal.
Love the vids Ola, and your English is better than most anglophones so I can kid you.
Thats exactly my rig (+ a Solar A2.6 Carbon Black Matte and the Katana pedal) and it kicks asses!

great rig advice ola. i knew you were going for that 2 12 v30 loaded hb cab , by a long shot the deal of the year on cabs that can be used with decent heads, i never played that katana, hearing the clean channel though makes me a believer , i mean lots of solid state amps have a mean distortion some even the effects, but that katana really does rock face with that tube like sound and overall versatility , great demo as always and thanks for your videos ola,...sending my regards too you and yours.
