    I enjoy all of your videos, but I particularly enjoy the ones where you give advice. I feel like you're giving tips on photography, but really it's about keeping yourself happy while taking photographs. making sure to enjoy the process and not getting burnt out. Thank you for sharing advice based on personal experience. It has helped me more than you'll ever know.

    • @JasonVong

      I'm happy to hear that! I used to get so caught up with the technicality of images rather than how it made me feel. I attribute all of my best images to what it meant to me rather than the right settings. So I'm glad that's also translating into these videos :)

    One of the natural side effects of being in street photo mode is that you are more aware of everything going on around you, which makes you and your gear safer. I never get so fixated on a subject that I don't pick up on other subjects or sketchy situations as they develop around me. With your head on a swivel you can stay out of other people's way and serve notice with quick eye contact and a nod that you are acknowledging people's presence around you. Normally it is just a social courtesy but can also ward off people looking for inattentive tourists.
    Not everyone is built for solo travel, but everyone should give it a shot to see if it is a good fit. Not only does it allow you to make fewer compromises, but you can change the itinerary in an instant. It gives me a extra tingle of adventure knowing its up to me (and a cell phone with a local sim card) to navigate through new territory. Not exactly Lewis and Clarke adventure level, but a lot of fun. 😅

    This was so relatable and helpful! I definitely learnt the "take your chances" point the hard way. There was one time I was in Lake Tahoe and I wanted to photograph the sunset. There were soooo many clouds and it looked dreary so I left. By the time I got back to my hotel the sky was on fire with the brightest orange sunset!! I was so annoyed! Won't be doing that again!
    When it comes to your point about taking too long while other people are with you...I've solved that issue by solo travelling instead. Such a weight lifted knowing i don't have to rush because others are waiting for me!

    Day 1: leave your Cam behind, get out there and do some orientation. Shoot those HotSpots and Scenes with your Smartphone during the day. In the evening, dive into these pictures and plan them for your final shot. Daytime, Location, Position.
    Day 2: the 'Early Bird' day. Be there with sunrise, do your shooting and then enjoy the rest of the day.
    Day 3: All plans set for the sunset and night shots. Afterwards look thru your shots. Missed some or want to revisit? Then do it on ..
    Day 4: Check back on your favorite shots. Another light, another time, another perspective.
    Done.

However, I’m going on a solo trip to Fairbanks, Alaska to do some Aurora chasing in October. My girlfriend doesn’t like the cold and my son wouldn’t like it either. Anyway, a lot of great tips Jason! • @JasonVong
      @JasonVong  3 года назад +2

      Look up images of the places and get some ideas. You can always replicate the image you see on IG or Google but you can also figure out how you could do it differently. I always take the standard shots and then get creative by taking a different perspective of the same location. Also, the moment and time you're at the spot, there are other variables: obviously the season, the weather, & people so it's just finding and taking in different elements and working them into your shots. Hope this helps!
