  • In todays episode I run through my photo exhibition preparation for showing some photography prints at 'The Way Of All Flesh' group exhibition curated by Delphian Gallery at the Saatchi Gallery London.
This is a group show with some incredible artists across many different mediums but as a photographer I've got to make some great prints and a big part of having any photography exhibition of your fine art photographs is making some high quality prints!
In this video I set about making some c-types of my colour infrared photographs I took on Kodak Aerochrome from my 2016 photo book 'The Unseen: An Atlas of Infrared Plates'.
One of the most exciting things is making test prints and test strips and in the video I show you how I came to my final print choices with some MASSIVE test strips using different paper stocks for some MASSIVE 50 x 40 inch prints. I cover some tricks I've learned over the years to save some ££££ while doing that process.
This is how I do things and of course there's so many different ways to do anything, just sharing what I do.
As I shot the work on colour infrared film a central part of how to make print ready files in Photoshop when doing film photography is sorting out colour balance, dust and scratches etc so I go through that a little too.
You can see the work at the Saatchi Gallery in London as part of the group show 'The Way of All Flesh' which is curated by Delphian Gallery. The show will be in Galleries 1 & 2 on the ground floor from the 13th January 2024 - 3rd March 2024. www.saatchigallery.com/exhibi... and I hope at 43 years of age I get the label 'emerging artist' ;)
You can see the exhibition catalogue, include price list, here: shop.delphiangallery.com/coll...

The series was called 'The Vein' and was made back in 2014/15 as part of my photo book 'The Unseen: An Atlas Of Infrared Plates' (Schilt, 2016). I've got 30 copies left as of the time of writing.
You can order one of my last copies of my photo book 'The Unseen: An Atlas of Infrared Plates' here:

N.B I totally forgot to add a bit about ICC colour profiles to this one, you need to find out who you're printing with and make sure you download the relevant ICC profile for the paper type you are printing with them and then place it in the folder on your computer (Mac - Library - ColorSync -Profiles folder) then in Photoshop you EDIT - Convert to Profile. You then choose the ICC profile for the paper you downloaded and viola! you are off!

Best of luck with the exhibition opening! Looking forward to going along sometime soon. Good idea about printing those strips for such large prints. Recently I bought my first photo printer and I've really fallen for metallic paper as well. Though I am mostly printing photos of cars!

Thank you! Just to be included is a real privilege! And wow I bet the cars look amazing! What a paper stock for it. A shame the effect doesn't come through on camera when you film it. You really have to see that metallic paper in real life.

Best of luck with the exhibition. Have a look at the Permajet metallic paper. It's incredible

It's not that in depth... It's 7 minutes ha! But you can look into each element with the power of Google! Good luck

Congrats ! These are so cool and unique. Also wanted to ask what lens you use in the bronica sq? Thanks!

Thank you, that's very kind. These were shot on a Mamiya RZ67. On my trusty trusty Bronica I've got a 50mm, 80mm and 150mm. Rarely use the 150mm as I tend to be right in the thick of it! 😉
