  • In this week's video I am talking about 4 different surfaces to consider when starting Oil Painting. I go through the pros and cons of each of the 4 surfaces and I recommend the one I think to be the best to start Oil Painting according to my own experience.
This video is not sponsored by any brands. My recommendation is based on my own experience using these surfaces for over 3 years.

Great! Do you have plans of doing a color mixing video?

@@asbjrnjensen yes like I mentioned at the end of my last video (jars & palette cups), I am finishing my series about “starting oil painting” on everything one need when starting oil painting, materials related mostly. Then I will start a new series on color mixing, values etc 🙏🏻

I am not a painter, not even really interested, never watched painting videos, somehow your video showed up earlier
Learned a lot! Thanks man, making me curious and again a very enjoyable video :) keep it up

I went through all these surfaces before landing on wood panels too! The wood sheets are called MDF panels I think here.

@@michaelbone5177 haha so cool, happy to hear I am not the only one! Yeah I was very confused between MDF and tempered hardboard. Might require its own video, specifically on type of wood. I think both are reconstituted wood panels, but slightly different. I’d need to investigate more. 🙏🏻

hi, I was considering the Canson pad you show because of your video, though I have liked Fredrix canvas pads, do you know of them? would it better to paint on canvas-paper or canvas sheets? (both can be attached to something sturdier later)

@@msd5808 I haven’t tried the Fredrix canvas pad, but from what I see online, it’s a similar product than the canson paper pad. For the price, I’d would try the canson once you are done with your Fredrix Pad, so you can compare them and just keep going with the one you like the most. Canvas sheet or paper seems also very similar. You got the idea, a cheap but well made surface to practice on; what you got seems totally fine 🙏🏻
