That being said I also believe that a big part of baseball is momentum and The Rays has that taken from them on a weird odd play that “technically” was called correct but no denying it confused everyone on what the right decision was and most likely will alter the rule books in the future .
Completely agree, I am a Rangers fan but I really want to see The Rays win the ship and that stupid rule drastically killed the momentum. Still not counting them out yet.

Very interesting play at the end. I just watched a recap on MLB Tonight and they showed the Umpires explaining the rationale of the call, they said the ball was "no longer in flight once it hit the wall". MLB hosts thought TB should've been awarded the base. Great vlog!!!

Since it was never cleanly fielded by the defense, the ball was live when it left the field of play. It's a very clear ground rule double. There's really no need for an asterisk next to anything. It was pretty funky, though.

(the Rays would avenge this by winning the ALCS that year) 2009: Angels sweep Sox in ALDS. Angels haven't won a postseason series since. Hopefully the Rays get back up and even the series.

Is getting to St. Pete really as difficult as people make it out to be. Alot of people complain about "build a stadium in Tampa Bay", but is it really that big of a deal to go from Tampa to St. Pete?
The call was correct, but I don't like the rule. In my opinion, if it bounces off a player then it should be ruled out of play (not a ground rule double) and up to umpire discretion which base the runner gets. Btw, what were there - two dozen people there? Rays fans need to get their stuff together or soon they're going to be cheering for the Expos.

if this is an actual Rays-sponsored event that is just embarrassing. for an MLB team in contention with a multi-million dollar marketing budget, to have a sparsely-attended pizza party in an abandoned Pirates of the Caribbean ride...just yuck. the mascot is leaning on the stage looking bored. there is no music in the background. the lighting is dark like a community theater run of Into the Woods. i've said it before and i'll say it again--Tampa Rays are one of the worst-run teams in baseball. they're darn lucky to have the players they have. it reminds me of the owner in Major League who wants the team to relocate so minimal effort is put into anything. i'm surprised they managed that lame $10 Walmart inflatable baseball in front.
COVID + first round series + game easily found on TV + game found at probably any sports bar makes for a likely low attended affair. Plus, Tampa has trouble drawing at their actual home games. I remember back in 2002 going to the Arrowhead Pond Of Anaheim to watch games 4 and 5 of the World Series, when the Angels were up in SF playing the Giants. I think we had 3-4 grand each game. Not terrible, but certainly not close to filling the joint. It didn't help that the Angels lost both of those games. Still a fun time...but not as fun as when the Angels came back home and played the two greatest games I've ever been to in my life.
They can still allow a runner to score from first on a ground rule double if it's determined he would have scored regardless. Not sure why they didn't allow him to score there.
I watched Wrestlemania 1 in the Seattle Kingdome. Back when you had to go somewhere to see closed circuit broadcasts (known now as a pay per view). Tens of thousands paid to go watch it on tv in the Kingdome. Still an experience even though you're not at the event live. That has happened before when Jose Canseco was a Texas Ranger. Ball went off of the top of his head an into the stands. I believe that was called an HR. Classic blooper clip so you can find it on youtube for sure, It should be an HR because if you catch an HR over the wall and drop it over the fence, it's an HR.
That's not the same thing. It hit the wall first, then the player. That's why the Canseco play was a HR, because it hit the player then oer the wall. A double was the right call, but the umps should have used their discretion to allow the runner to score.

That's sad Tampa doesn't deserve a team. They get no fan support and they're a playoff team. That place would be packed in Boston for a Red Sox watch party.

if this is an actual Rays-sponsored event that is just embarrassing. for an MLB team in contention with a multi-million dollar marketing budget, to have a sparsely-attended pizza party in an abandoned Pirates of the Caribbean ride...just yuck. the mascot is leaning on the stage looking bored. there is no music in the background. the lighting is dark like a community theater run of Into the Woods. i've said it before and i'll say it again--Tampa Rays are one of the worst-run teams in baseball. they're darn lucky to have the players they have. it reminds me of the owner in Major League who wants the team to relocate so minimal effort is put into anything. i'm surprised they managed that lame $10 Walmart inflatable baseball in front.
COVID + first round series + game easily found on TV + game found at probably any sports bar makes for a likely low attended affair. Plus, Tampa has trouble drawing at their actual home games.
I remember back in 2002 going to the Arrowhead Pond Of Anaheim to watch games 4 and 5 of the World Series, when the Angels were up in SF playing the Giants. I think we had 3-4 grand each game. Not terrible, but certainly not close to filling the joint. It didn't help that the Angels lost both of those games. Still a fun time...but not as fun as when the Angels came back home and played the two greatest games I've ever been to in my life.
They can still allow a runner to score from first on a ground rule double if it's determined he would have scored regardless. Not sure why they didn't allow him to score there.

I watched Wrestlemania 1 in the Seattle Kingdome. Back when you had to go somewhere to see closed circuit broadcasts (known now as a pay per view). Tens of thousands paid to go watch it on tv in the Kingdome. Still an experience even though you're not at the event live.
That has happened before when Jose Canseco was a Texas Ranger. Ball went off of the top of his head an into the stands. I believe that was called an HR. Classic blooper clip so you can find it on youtube for sure, It should be an HR because if you catch an HR over the wall and drop it over the fence, it's an HR.
That's not the same thing. It hit the wall first, then the player. That's why the Canseco play was a HR, because it hit the player then oer the wall. A double was the right call, but the umps should have used their discretion to allow the runner to score.
