I love these old planes....I love the sound at takeoff. My first airplane ride was a DC-9 from Chicago to Springfield IL in the mid 60's. The new planes just don't sound the same.
Sure do miss these. Just got invited by DL to come tour the HQ and Tech Ops in ATL a few weeks ago, they still have some MD-88/90 parts laying around. I miss hearing those JT8D's.

Great workhorse of a jet. Pretty fast too! Delta has gotten its money's worth out of that jet.
I flew in an MD 88 in 2012 to Missouri-excellent aircraft!✈️

If you look closely at the 17:12 mark, you can see homes that were damaged/destroyed by the ef-3 tornado from the previous month.
What a babby flew it a couple times with delta luved it what a sound
Retired by Delta in June 2020 due to COVID, however Delta planned retirement at end of same year. Last MD 88 delivered December 1993.
