Really fantastic album, plenty of tracks that get stuck in my head. Earth To Dora, Are We Alright Again, I Got Hurt and Baby Let’s Make it Real really stand up to some of E’s best tracks

I really truly relate to this song. Your songs built up my childhood years, and now here I am at 21 years of age and this song is so near and dear to my heart it‘s almost like a gift...maybe ‘cause I‘m almost a Dora:)...feels like it‘s talking to me everytime I listen to it and I cant tell you how I feel about all this.

I hope I do not get lots of nasty replies here... but... I was such a HUGE EELS fan and I still am, but I miss the old days of the albums feeling so unique, powerful, unique. In recent times the albums and releases all feel pretty average. I mean this track is okay. Maybe this is just what happens as you get older and more content? So glad E is still doing his thing, I just do not connect as In used to. But hey, I am getting older too! Electro Shock, Daisies, and Shoot are still my faves. Such memories.
Yeah I am the same to Jay ~ I like the older stuff :) was more interesting to me!! But it’s great he’s still producing 🎶 and he’s probably trying for something different as he’s getting older to 😅🙌
I love the Eels, but I am similar, Daisies of the Galaxy will always be my fav album. Something very nostalgic about its vibes (even back then in 2000) and the album itself which is very hard to describe. Perhaps it's somewhat fairground Wurlitzer and mellotron heavy sound/ambience. Electro Shock was also brilliant in it's own lo-fi melancholically empathetic way. Souljacker I just didn't like, I kinda stopped buying their albums after blinking lights. missed a few albums and have been more a youtube listener in the last few years... So also, for me the older stuff too. Just something about it that resonates for me personally. One of the only songs I've heard that was like something off of Daisies is the track ''Coming Back'' from The Deconstruction. Don't get me wrong, I still listen to all E's catalog and I do love his work, and there have been some fantastic songs since, but much prefer the first 2 albums generally. And it's ok to say that too! No one is going to shoot you down for what you prefer with your own opinion :) But then again, there is always some keyboard warrior to try and intellectually challenge and outwit you because they don't agree and have the incessant need to belittle you and be the bigger man - over someone's album choices - when the world has bigger issues than someone's youtube comment lol.
@@sophiemiller7004 Sophie, that resonated with me SO, so, so much. Electro and Daisies framed my younger years and were quite simply genius, moving and deeply sincere and meaningful. Every album was a moment, I liked Shootenanny and Souljacker was more of a tough listen, but arguably great in its own way. Blinking lights could have, in my view, been an ending to end on an iconic high. Yes there have been moments of brilliance post this point (Little Bird for example), but with this last album it just feels like E is scratching an itch that I am sure is cathartic in some form, but great music like yesteryears? No.
@@sophiemiller7004 I could not agree any more!! I’m the exactly the same .. last album was blinking lights to!! Always hoping that his next will resemble something of the past 😊
@@jaymaxx3910 The only song on Souljacker I liked was Fresh Feeling - which as you prob know was a leftover/continuation of Selective Memory string section sample, that album was such a rapid departure from his previous works and I kinda felt let down by that album - Maybe part due to many songs being co-written with John Parish? I'm not sure. Definitely a few gems since Electro shock Blues and Daisies, I do enjoy ones such as In the Yard Behind The Church, Things the Grandchildren Should know, I think for me personally, after Souljacker, it turned me off them a little and I kinda was hesitant to buy Shootenanny and Blinking lights, as you never know what to expect...and I didn't want to risk it after feeling those albums just weren't the same as his late 90s vibe!
