Hey guys, hope you enjoy this video! Sadly I've fallen ill (this video was filmed, edited and uploaded and scheduled prior to me being sick) so there may sadly be a delay before the next video comes out.
@@icedjelly There is a certain pacing that we try to keep with these videos so sometimes you'll notice that as I try to move on from the current topic/task. Unedited, this video was almost 50 minutes long so although for viewers the pacing may seem ok, unedited, it's really bad and that's why it may seem like I'm rushing through things a bit.
Hope you feel better soon. Also, FYI, you cannot officially bring the taskbar to the side in WIndows 11. You have to get 3rd party tools for that as the option for such in the UI is removed.
This video reminds me of Abunchu moment hahaha, good to see Diana think of Ubuntu years after she first tried it... Jeez, that's an old time, wasn't it?
Thanks! Is this the first video you have seen from us in years or have some other videos I made this year popped up too? I've noticed quite a few people saying they re-found us over the last few weeks after years of not seeing us :P
I have been getting notifications that you’ve been uploading lately, but it's because I have bell notifications on for you. I've been busy, so I didn't check out the previous videos. I hope more people discover or re-discover the channel! May the algorithm be on your side.
Hey Phil! Get better soon! We, OSFT fans, will patiently wait until you heal. :) Also, what do you think of making a video of Diana customizing Ubuntu using GNOME extensions? I think it would be pretty interesting. I realize that Diana enjoys testing out operating systems, too, but I think it was different when the channel initially started out. Now she's having much less trouble doing the traditional tasks. I think it would be good if she still tried operating systems but did more interesting stuff with them. It's not like she's too tech-savvy to effortlessly do more complex tasks, so it'll definitely be interesting to watch. Also, out of curiosity, have you decided if you wanted Diana to check out Essence? Remember, that operating system with a tab-oriented window manager?
I think Diana would enjoy trying Zorin OS. It's also using Gnome, and has many different options allowing for a ChromeOS, MacOS or Windows feel of the UI. It has Wine integrated for Windows programs and it's own Phone Link kinda thing.
oh my goodness I haven't seen this channel in YEARSSSS you two were actually my childhood- hope everything is going well, glad to see you're still at it!
Ubuntu is for everyone, noobs and advanced users alike. I reality think the whole noob distri vs advanced distro is silly. Other than that, great video 😊.
Watching this made me realize how much Ubuntu has changed since I last used it... I don't like Gnome, even this modified version. I prefer the old Unity, and my favorite Linux desktop environment is KDE (which I think Diana might like because of how similar the panel is to the Windows taskbar, except it can be moved to the side). Also, it's weird that Diana likes the full-screen app menu, considering how she feels about the Windows 8.x Start screen...
Yea, I must say some of the older Ubuntu versions are better in my opinion, but the scaling in this modern version works really well, I'm quite impressed with how well everything can upscale, even incrementally like 175% and so on.
I’m gonna install the LTS version of Ubuntu on my laptop because windows 11 doesn’t like it. I like the optics of Ubuntu the most but by the looks of Diana trying it out it actually seems like a very good choice for a noobie with no talent for terminal use like me 😊😅
I'm not sure if I can give you a definitive answer to your question. But I can tell you that we're not AI generated. We're not bots. We are real people, just like you :)
I used to have my windows 7 task bar on the left side of the screen, I agree with Diana it's better there 👍 I guess this is proof that Ubuntu's effort to make Linux desktop's "human friendly" is working 🤞
My friend has literally never seen any of your videos, but also pronounces it abunchoo like you used to. Every time I tell him he’s wrong he acts like i’m an idiot and it’s common knowledge that it’s pronounced abunchoo 😭
Really cool, I tried ubuntu before but right now I am currently using Mint 22 on my main drive but I do have windows 11 on the second drive. I have been considering ditching windows entirely soon and go full linux but sometimes I do use windows things still.
Ubuntu returns. Is this the first time modern Ubuntu is using the GNOME Desktop on this channel? Also, if you've noticed, I've uploaded several AI covers of your Suno songs so that you can use them if you are interested in trying out weights to avoid copyright issues with actual songs. There are more videos to come that will be uploaded automatically according to a schedule, and the strike should be finished by Thursday 12:00 PM ET.
Had a quick look, it's interesting where the tech is going and how you can swap out voices like that but I can see there is still a long way to go before this will be perfect. 5 years from now, 2024 will seem... prehistoric.
@@OsFirstTimer It actually depends entirely on the models and the sources used. Sometimes I got unlucky. Other times I got lucky. This is why I used a diverse range of voices to showcase with.
just recently installed arch linux! with the gnome desktop environment (i should change it to KDE plasma because i like the desktop look of it) but yeah its great!
I like ubuntu because it was my first intro to linux in 2007 when I decided to go with linux as a daily driver, but now I prefer linux mint because it gets out of the way well and lets me just work. Also prefer the flatpak over snap option. Been thinking about switching to Fedora though just because I can.
My mom uses an older version of Ubuntu and she is quite happy with it (even though she doesnt use the computer for advanced things, it wouldnt make a difference if she used a Chromebook for instance), but she always pointed out how easy it is compared to Windows. And I'm happy that I can give her proper IT support as someone who is somewhat familiar with the Linux terminal 😂 Did you ever consider letting Diana try out a Live environment on her own laptop, say, Fedora or Pop OS?
I can't believe she just found out about the left aligned taskbar NOW. After she tested so many distros. I even remember her saying that she didn't like that. And NOW Microsoft took it from us… Hilarious
For the record. A Oriole is what we refer to a baseball player who plays for the Major League Baseball team out of Baltimore. Team name is Baltimore Orioles. It's not a bird silly.
I hope GNOME devs/designers see this and realize how arrogant they are about their decisions. Simple things matter, and that's why Ubuntu is still popular.
@@DanielClear2 I think Gnome as-is is great, at least for my workflow, but I understand that it isn't for everyone -- that's why you've got extensions, or heck, even KDE, XFCE, LXQT, i3, sway, etc ;]
How for we've come. To be honest, I think gnome is the best DE nowadays because it's intuitive to almost anyone who has used a conputer before,be it mac or windows.
So much of the gnome UI/style/gestures is macOS-like. The problem for a macOS user is that it frequently shows its rough edges/immaturity. Hopefully it’ll improve over time.
I bet Steve Wozniak knows more about Operational Systems than those two… as he invented/made the original Apple computers from the 1976 Apple I and the 1977's Apple ][(2)… my favorite computer is the Apple //e(2e) from 1983 which I used in grade school in the late 80's, as I was born in 1977…

As for the taskbar on windows 11, get explorerpatcher to bring back the old taskbar, and you can move it to the side again.

@Cart1416 Zorin Connect is a modified KDE Connect version.
They did Zorin before, but maybe a revisit may happen.

I miss Unity 7 a little
There is a modern Linux distro called Ubuntu Unity that still uses the Unity DE.
@RealOvergreen Ubuntu Unity has been back for a few years now. It's also a official Ubuntu flavour.
I feel like the CSDs used by modern GNOME apps ruins Unity a little for me now :(
I prefer old Ubuntu because old Ubuntu had the alt button to search for options, also I prefer the old desktop to Ubuntu with Gnome
Yea, I must say some of the older Ubuntu versions are better in my opinion, but the scaling in this modern version works really well, I'm quite impressed with how well everything can upscale, even incrementally like 175% and so on.
