  • My Initial Impressions after 5 Rides on the Rise and I am throughly impressed. Orbea should have made the bike this way to start with. Geo feels absolutely spot on. Aggressive, Plush, planted, but yet playful, lively, and fun. Not sure I can think of a better all rounder Ebike right now.

    Right on! This is awesome. I've been on a Rise for the past month. I love it. My local trails are pretty gnarly (North Shore) and I would love to go slacker with mullet and some extra travel. Might be a good winter project. Looking forward to your full bike check and hearing more details about it.
    ~One word of caution for Rise owners.... the e*Thirteen carbon cranks that come stock with some of them have a known issue with the spindle screw caps coming loose. One of mine fell off on a down hill run and my entire crank fell off 20m into the following climb. e*Thirteen sent me a couple replacement screws (with lock tight) a week later. So if you have those cranks, check the spindle screw caps (or better yet, take them off and apply some lock tight).~

      @@Coastal-rsidedown Yep, I live in North Vancouver. You can see me on my Rise on CBC and some other North Shore & Squamish trails on my channel "I Do Blues". I'm likely swapping my 140mm Fox 34 with my brother for a 150mm Fox 36 next month. That then gives me the option to further burley it up to a 160mm fork (w a 160mm shock & mullet setup) if I feel like I need it.

    Very interesting, the only reason i went with the levo over the Rise was because I was afraid of the 150/140 suspension being to little coming from a 160/160 analog bike. Maybe I should reconsider the Rise since I rarely ride more than 1½ hours and don't need a beefy battery. But loves those jump lines.

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  3 года назад +3

      Never ridden a Levo. I can only compare it to a Decoy. The rear end of the Rise feels identical to my Decoy in terms of small bump sensitivity and mid stroke. The rear travel is actually 162mm compared to the Decoy at 165. Oddly, It feels better than the Decoy on hard bottomout compressions (cases) but I attribute that to the DHX2’s massive bottomout bumper that ramps up very nicely compared to the DVO Jades’s bumper which is small and soft and feels like you’re hitting a wall.
      The Rise is way way more playful but still very capable downhill and my times are actually faster on the Rise than the Decoy. The Decoy however feels more stable at very high speed straighter trails due to the longer wheelbase, weight, and the 180mm coil fork I had on it.
      1.5hrs is perfect for the Rise. I normally do about 2700-2800’ an hour (full boost, full 85Nm 🤫). A full battery in 85Nm Mode will get about 3500-3700’.

So, I've ordered a 2022 H15 and plan to change spec so here goes and hope you get back (it is Christmas after all 😉). Frame size is XL. Plan to leave the rear 29 and stick a 216x63 shock: OK for full compression clearance?. I also plan on fitting offset bushings and/or a 'Works Components' angled headset to slacken the HA. I also plan on going 170 up front. Its the shock Q which is key so I appreciate your experienced reply. Merry Christmas and have a top New Year from me over here in the grey and murky UK 👍😫😐

      Merry Christmas!!! Yes that shock clears no problem. Your plan is a solid plan. I’m curious to see how you get on with the angled headset. One of the biggest issue with the angled headset is it adds 10-15mm of stack underneath the head tube which is not ideal. Might as well up the fork to a 170 Zeb if you go that route which has a very tall Axle to crown. 38 is not as tall as a Zeb but taller than a 36. Anyways, good luck and have fun with the Rise!!!

    • @elpachato
      @elpachato 3 года назад

      @@mtbmike9866 My frame is size L, I think the top tube hole is in the same place, so even if the frame is bigger, the shock mounts right, but the can will hit the top tube at 2/3 of the stroke. Hopefully i didn't run it without checking by releasing the air slowly, otherwise that would have been so costfull.
      Did you thought about trying a progressive spring ? Has the linear suspension been an issue for you ? Also have you tried the 85nm with stunlocker ?
      I am afraid that i am going to run a higher value then desired for the right support (475lbs instead of maybe 450), and loose some ability to pop out , and loose comfort on rocky rooty terrain, but i so often ride with different weight, from just clothes, to protections+waterbag+battery pack, that makes up to 6kg difference, from 89 to 95kg easily, and often up to 2kg more on a sunday because of cheat day. I also do a lot of mixed terrain with a lot of small technical climbs and can't go the way to switch open/firm all the time, so going to soft doesn't seems right.
      I don't know if i am mistaken in my approach, i know that i kind of want best of both worlds, that's why i think progressive could be the right way for me, i have even hesitated to go again with dpx2, but that 140mm felt so harsh at first, i still want to give a try to the coil, i just find the orange colour to be atrocious with the blue rise, that makes two good reasons to go straight to an other spring.
      From what i have read mrp springs are huge and that could be same trouble as float x2, but crane creek could be an option, all you need apparently is 2 adapters.
      I would really like to hear much feed back from the coil users on the rise about that.

      @@elpachato I’ve seen photos of a Large frame and an X2 mounted as well as an XL frame. Mabe there are some tolerances to the frame?
      If you look at the leverage curve, the Rise is pretty progressive. The Pinkbike article shows the leverage curve. It is definitely not Linear.
      Progressive spring depends on the shock used. The DHX2 has a very large bumper that ramps up very smoothly on hard compressions. If you are running a different shock and smaller bottomout bumper, perhaps a progressive spring is required. I know the DVO shocks have a very soft foam so bottoming out will be like hitting a wall. Ohlins and Fox have larger bumpers. I am 150lbs naked or up to 160lbs geared up and find a 400lb to be adequate for my riding style. I feel the back end is plenty playful and poppy without the progressive spring so although I have a 400-488lb spring, I have no desire to use it.

      MTB MIKE I can’t see how the x2 could work, I didn’t have the time to take a picture since I was to worried about the potential damage that was close to happen. I have not had the opportunity to compare different sizes side by side, maybe the xl has the top tube coming up at a higher angle to allow the x2 to use its travel, but the L does not.
      I have the dhx2 but haven’t really used it yet, because mine was delivered with a bright bumper which I found to be so ugly and surely prone to get dirty. I will now try to get one with the regular black one. Also the eye to eye exceeds the frame capacity by half a mm, so i will wait for the offset bushings to arrive before mounting it again, as I don’t like the linkage to be forced backwards by the shock. Maybe that is not so serious, but I rather not go this way since it gets the geometry back to the trail configuration angles which is a little too much lean to the front, and the bb is a little too high too.
      I don’t want to go in the mullet way, but I see how that can maybe help with the feeling of the coil working nice with a heavier spring as it gets your weight more on the back. I guess it must feels like the 140 rear/160 front in all 29er, but the front feels very slack that way, which I feel more demanding for the arms.
      Maybe I will try the 475 when I get the bushings, opening the compression could be key to soften it, that could work, just not liking this colour at all.. and way more expensive than adding spacers to an air shock !

    Hi mike, i think you could also get into the motor configuration and adjust the motor angle mount position, apparently this motor has a captor to check when you are getting into climbing, and with your setup it can detect you are when you are not because you have made the bike slacker.
    I think i might try to do mine 150/160 to keep the 29er as it is and just raise the bb a bit, it will help since I tend to hit the pedals with it as stock.

That's just accounting for the fork, changing the stroke of the shock will affect hta/bb/reach as well. Also swapping to the mullet will affect all those as well. Not saying it's not a good and I could be wrong but from experience all that adds up to more than just that. Just interested in seeing what the numbers really are after all the changes. @MTB MIKE Sick build bud! Question: How do you feel about the your Rise set up to shred, in comparison to your YT Decoy? Is there overlap in purpose of use? Do you like one more than the other?

    • @mtbmike9866

      Major overlap!!! Rise technically has 162mm rear end and Decoy has 165mm. So rear end feel over hard landings and suppleness feels the same. Same Head tube.
      Rise is faster on cornering, braking while the Decoy feels more stable at high speed straightaways. Also The longer fork makes a noticeable difference over high speed chunk. Both great bikes. My descending times are a bit faster on 90% of the trails and in terms of fun, the Rise easily wins.

    How do you feel about the new alloy bike with 540wh battery? Do you ever wish for more battery on your rise? 1.5kg heavier... Love your advice?

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  2 года назад

      At my weight and fitness level, I am very happy with the smaller battery. If you are much heavier or out of shape a bigger battery is useful. My bike right now is 18.7kg without pedals. Does 1.5kg make a difference? It’s kinda like me riding my bike with a range extender. The biggest thing I notice is the slight difference in braking (need to brake sooner) and how the bike feels in the air turning the back wheel sideways. If your riding is mostly on the ground and just small jumps there’s minimal differences. Another more important difference is the tire pressure. I add about 1.5psi more in the back tire whenever I run the extender as I feel the tire hits things a lot harder than it does with less weight. Remember that 1.5kg on the bike isn’t the same as 1.5kg on your body as an impact first deflects the tire, then your suspension and then your legs. So if you weigh 1.5kg more, your legs can absorb it no problem but if the bike weighs 1.5kg more the wheel is taking the majority of that impact before the suspension does so you can hear and feel the impacts are harder on the tires.
      This is why running a heavier 23kg ebike requires DD or ebike or DH rated tires despite a rider weighing only 65kg. On the Rise I feel EXO tires are barely adequate so a tougher casing may be required on the alloy rise and if you mount an extender, then 100% need a tougher casing

    • @radicalturkey
      @radicalturkey 2 года назад

      @@mtbmike9866 Thanks a lot for the insight. I am only 145lbs and tend to stay on the ground! I feel like the larger standard battery will give me more flexibility. I'd hate to have range anxiety, especially as I would like to do some long all-day rides. I'll think about it. Thanks!

      @@radicalturkey I am recovering from a Broken arm and went out for my first ride in 9 weeks on the Rise. The beauty of the bike is you can ride it with the motor off. I did 650m of climbing with 80% battery left because I turned it off most of the ride to try to get some excercise in. I was able to ride and keep up with slower Acoustic riders no problem. Now a heavier bike will be harder to pedal with no power.

    To Mike and anyone else who have made the mullet conversion:
    I too have my M10 Medium converted to mullet setup based on your feedback for a couple weeks now.
    Front Fork Fox 36 160mm / Rear Shock Plush Coil 160mm = 216x63mm (8.5x2.5) with one offset bushing (tail).
    In the past couple rides, I started to hear some weird friction noise below the frame when going over some bumps so I looked closer and found that the rear shock coil has come into contact with the frame and has left some marks under the top tube. I am a bit concerned as I am wondering if it would cause any damage to the carbon frame.
    Anybody has experienced with this issue and how would you resolve it?

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  2 года назад +1

      I’ve read on medium and small frames you have to go with a Fox Black steel or Fox SLS coil since they are a 3-4mm smaller diameter than other coils. I know my 400lb VALT coil is 2-3mm larger diameter than Fox coils and PUSH coils have the Largest diameter especially in the middle. I believe you can fit a Fox spring on a Push coil. I’ve put a Cane creek on a Push before no problem so fox should work.
      How did u get a Push coil for the Rise. If you try to order they will only sell you a 210x55 on a Large or XL frame
