This is why ebikes are the future. As weights and prices go down, we'll eventually hit a point where having a motor assist option is just another thing you may or may not add onto a bike. Just like derailleurs, I guess.
This is good, but right now I don't think EMTB's are ready just yet, to many little things like having to have more than one battery, and the price, they are still tweaking these things so no chance I will fork out 4k on one yet, in the future yes, but not now. Just think if you bought one a few years back, you would be pretty mad how much they have advanced considering you just paid 3k or whatever
@@antifugazi You must be one of the guys we BLOW by on the climbs. See ya next lap! LoL
@@antifugazi There is still definitely a premium on them right now, especially with the newer and lighter ones. That will always be the case for new tech. But aside from paying to advance the technology, you’re also paying for time. All the years you aren’t riding on one are years you won’t be getting back. It really depends on how much riding you do and how much that absolutely has to be with assistance. For some of us, that time is very precious and well worth the spend. We may not be alive for when they get cheap enough to just be a no-brainer.

i spent good couple hours on this absolutely amazing bike ...rides and feels like a normal bike just with the pleasure of scooting back to the top on a long route around ....have some on order straight away and can't wait
How is the power climbing vs standard ebike? % wise? 60% 80% . Etc? I’m trying to decide now😎
There are two things stopping me from getting an ebike. One weight and two weight. This is starting to make me get interested now!
It's awesome to hear that Billy! We love that there are options for different people on the market now!
I was in the same boat. I bought a Turbo Levo SL after multiple demo's. Unbelievable bike, sacrifices practically nothing when actually mountain biking (meaning tech up and down). I demo'd normal 50 lb Ebikes and they suck in comparison. Glad to see the SL has competition! Beware the comments bemoaning range/power. Those people want a moto and put the actual mountain biking as a lower priority.
For me it’s price and price. Entry level bikes starting at €4000-5000... That’s shitload of money. But I want one....badly.
Im considering buying new bike. But current price hikes and availability makes think twice if 5k€ is a bit too much. But if this came available at 6k€.. dang, i just might have a deal lol. Then again, terrains here arent so krank safe and im not that grate avoiding obstacless..
I'm all about the range over power, speed and weight. Good to see eMTB's coming out that I can get it all. Evolution!
Nice and lovely bike. 2 emtb family definitely. We will have a new bikers war soon: regular bike vs heavy emtb vs light. 😂😂😂
I’ m falling in love to this bike. I dreams with ride a Orbea Rise. Best regards from Spain
This is THE BEST, most comprehensive review EVER. of this bike the Orbea… “M10. I am committing to the slightly lower spec …M20 as I won’t wait three months to get my first e-MTB …👍 🇪🇸
Wow thats a good looking bike!
I'm seriously considering getting divorced to get this beautiful and super capable bike! 😮😮
I could see a difference in handling watching Steve ride. I guess I watch a lot of EMBN!
What do you think of these new lighter weight bikes?
This ebike has the same weight then my bike...
Riding Myakka Island Trails, in West Florida.
New lighter eBike is very intriguing. I'm little a little turned off just because of the amount of water I ride around/through, but having a pedal assist bike at only 5lbs heavier than my regular swamp-horse is very very intriguing.
Added: Also, my jack-of-all bike is only about 2000USD, in comparison to the Orbea's $7,000-10,000 pricetag.
If I could afford it......... My perfect bike!
Although, maybe Neil's crashed bike is going cheap?
light weight is overrated! I would rather have a more powerful machine!
Electric Mountain Bike Network love it but what is the price
Just put deposit down on the M10, been looking for a lighter bike with more power than the Levo SL. Think this is the way forward.... excited!
The sizing looks smaller than Specialized SL which I am also looking at M on the Levo yet looks like I will have to go up a size on Orbea
This bike shows how much of a joke the Levo SL really is, well done Orbea 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼👍🏼
WHAA? I own the Levo SL. It's an unbelievable bike. What's your point?? Having said that, I'm glad to see more manufacturers going the light/lower power route.
@@jerryx2000 I got it Feb this year. Guessing 1200 km, some bashing at Mammoth, too. No issues, except I wish the dropper had longer range (it's 175 mm). Motor has been perfect. Probably the most trouble-free bike I've had, which is amazing since it's an ebike.
I've ridden a turbo SL carbon 7000 euro bike and I said to myself... I would never buy an e-bike with only this power... Better buy an orbea occam as a trail bike with half of the money spent. However I'm very curious about the rise, I mean 60 nm is almost the double of 35nm and the price starts at 5999. Which is 1000 euro cheaper than the Levo, not to mention the superb geometry this bike has.
@@CarlosAntunesMTB Funny, I hardly ever use the SL in its highest power mode. Why would you? Also, the SL starts at 5300 Euro's. I'm not arguing that the Rise doesn't look like a great bike, and obviously copied the best parts of the trailblazing SL. But, facts, you know. And I don't even get your Occam comparison - we're taking ebikes. Also, I'd want to try the Rise and make sure its power delivery is as beautifully done as on the SL. Critical on technical climbing.
@@koho I understand your point but for me the purpose of buying an e bike is mainly to be a second bike for the days when I don't want to make such a huge effort. However, in case I desire to push myself to my physical limits I still have my cannondale scalpel which is a hell of a bike for exercising. As much as I respect your opinion 35 nm's are not enough despite liking the bike itself but in order to pay that much for a bike it better be worthing each euro in terms of its performance, Ive ridden a giant e-trance two weeks before the SL and said to myself... I wich there was a bike that strong and trustful climbing and as flexible and playfull in the descents as a trail or even my xc bike... The SL could be the bike for the descents... But I need more for my climbings otherwise as I said there's a cannondale in the garage that does all the service for a lower price.
My first gen Powerfly 5 at just over 50 lbs is envious of how lean this bike is. As am I.
His bike weighs 28.62Kg (for anyone not using stone aged measurements) Americans need to embrace the future. Imagine measuring manometers in inches… having inches as your smallest measure of length was probably alright when all it was used for was basic manufacturing processes but it has no place in the current world. Imagine something that’s 1mm being called 0.0393701” or 393701/10000000 of an inch.
I quite like your videos, but in I would have liked that there was no music or that you did not talk when testing was in low engine to check the "famous" rattling that comes standard the new EP8
In one word: Awesome!
the music and the narration are great at hiding the noise of this bike. It's like a box of spanners on the decents from this video.
This is good to see, lighter ebikes. Steve bangs on about weight doesn't matter, it does! The batteries will last longer as the motor won't have to do as much work. This ORBEA fill the gap where you want a workout but want to go far on your ebike. You don't need much power if the bike's lighter. However, if you're after a more capable 'planted' bike, this isn't the one for you.
...so weight does matter than Chuck? hahaha
I wonder if the Levo SL would be more "capable and planted" than the Orbea? I've narrowed it down to one of these two.
Transition Relay Spring 2023🤟
I got to ride this bike in the parking lot at the local shop the other day... Hate to be Mr buzzkill but although it was super light there just was no power! It's a beautiful bike, not cheap at $7,400 USD. I went home and hugged my 2021 giant trance XE pro 29er. The Orbea motor was so quiet it was amazing. There is something to be said for a ton of torque
Eventually we'll get to the point where bikes such as this cost about $3560. I wish that day was NOW!
AMAZING job guys! Best Mountain Bike channel on earth!
Looks like a great bike for mtbrs who are fitter and don't want the full motorbike feel .
Tried other ebikes (bullit and trek) just too heavy and the feeling is like being on a motor bike but pedaling which makes it feel unbalanced . Was surprised just how powerful they are.
Be great to have all the fun of a lighter bike but an option of some assistance when your goosed near the end of a ride.
Be ace at llandegla, them bloomin climbs at the end !
Great video, looks like I found my next e-bike ☺️
The RS version of the Shimano it optimized for a better efficiency, and they say it has a 50% better performance consumption energy respect the normal one; at the end the "build in" battery + the range extender are as the same as a 900 WH battery for about 8 hours range trip: not bad...
I would like a bike 19kg to 21Kg ish, Enduro suspension sizing (170ish), Full Power Motor, 350w removable battery. The Dream!
Rotwild r.e 375, done - 8.999€
@@MsChrisRedfield I do know about this bike. Not in Australia, the bike would be like $16000 Aud. I think that bike should be the goal weight and target for all brands. I currently own a 25kg 504 wh bike. A full power, light weight (20kg ish) 170 ish mm is the holy grail for e bikes i think.
Absolutely love everything about this bike. One thing you seem to have missed. Range ?
The model Steve tested is not 16 kg, its more like 18 kgs.
The 16.2 kg version is the LTD edition model, which uses a 140mm 34 Fox fork and other light components to get to that weight.
It's a headline grabber, but the reality is its about the same weight as the Specialized SL.
only with a bigger battery, twice the torque and (if you upgrade the M20) factory kashima 36's and a dpx factory kashima shock and quality components rather than the bargain basement parts that come on the levo SL comp carbon for the same price.
@@b45her Totally agree, far better bang for buck than the Levo.
Its just the 16kg headline is a little misleading
It's a good point Paul, sorry didn't mean to mislead. I actually rode a few different models but yes the 36 is the one to get right!
@@stevejones7956 frame size and dropper post length (I suppose 175 mm) of this test bike?
Wow, my 1980's mountain bike weighs in at 14kg, AND I run it single speed 😮. AND it's Reynolds 531. How times have changed...
Considering buying one of these on the used market now, I’d like to see a video for used e-bike’s. You can get twice the bike for the same price. Would love to see what to look out for when buying. I;ve noticed a few motor replacements for example. Battery health, etc…
I’m picking one up this morning for £2300 with some great upgrades!
It reminds me of my 2018 Focus Jam2 its 20kg same battery, but mine has a e8000 motor. with no firmware limit.
Orbea seems like an amazing company.
They have to do orbea rise vs specilized levo sl
I don't see The Levo SL doing so well against this.
they not gonna do that lmao.
I think all I can say is WOW! Plus it's a spanking great looking bike! How does it compare to the Turbo Levo SL?
Would defintley consider parting with one of my kidneys for one of these (i have 3 kidneys no joke )
Two bikes then?
How much for the kidney?
Where'd you get the kidneys?
Other sites are reporting the proprietary Shimano motor is restricted down due to battery limitations (?). If true, that will drive a lot of eMTBers crazy.
As a e7000 motor owner, I wonder how it performs against it.
Is it the same support and assistance?
Both are shimano's and 60Nm which will be interesting to compare.
I just bought a very nice Kona Remote 160 e-MTB about a month ago, and really like it. But it is on the heavier end of what’s out there. Availability at the time was very limited for all bikes, and especially so, and prices high, on the few lighter bikes being made (such as Levo SL). The Kona has more power and range than I really need. If the Orbea had been available then I would have gotten one for sure.
Hi Steve - I Note with interest that the Rise you were riding is an XL - how tall are you may I ask?
Steve ! If you could only buy one bike, would you go full fat or semi skimmed ?
Love the channel . Especially the bike reviews .
Struggling to even find a Rise to try for size . At 175 cm I am right on the limit of the M . I did have a Canyon Spectral:On 7 and that was a Medium . Loved it but ultimately too heavy for me hence why the Rise is on my shortlist . I managed to try the Levo SL and was medium on that .
Do you think I will have to go for the L in the Rise? Lot of money so need to get it right
would rent/test both sizes from a dealer and then decide. I'm at 172 and rode a L. Was ok but do not have the comparison to an M yet. Still need to do that.
This is an awesome feat for weight! However, YOU DIDN'T MENTION the RANGE! What is the RANGE on this Bike with and without the additional battery???
My friend has this bike. Motor and battery are step down to my Trek Powerfly. 350w battery and 400 watt motor. This is why it’s very light (40lbs). Good for light weight riders.
Just 1.8 kilos more than my Santa Cruz Hightower. Thats nuts. Price is nice too lol £ 8,899.
Santa Cruz bikes are over priced and the ones I have ridden are quite heavy
Nice Video
but the tested model is NOT the 16 Kilo Model!
This is the one weighting 17,8 Kilos!
The LT Model has only Fox34 140m Travel and DPS Shock!
And a different lightweight Tyre!
So You have to make some Compromises to get the Bike down to 16.2 Kilos
But 17.8 is also a stunning number!
Yes- these are essentially the same weight as the Levo SL with similar components. Glad to see more bikes on this trend!
Do you think these light weight ebikes are waiting for the lithium sulphur batteries that are spoze to be bigger capacity at the same size ??.
Hi, could i ask you which is your height and your inseam size? Thx and best regards
Does that EP8 RS rattle the same as the EP8 riding over chunk? This bike is for very deep pockets, like the Levo SL.
Is there a good site for comparing prices of name brand e bikes ?
Nice! But is that cable noise?
Didn't catch, 29s?
I guess EMBN is not allowed to mention the competition with these early release videos? This bike is obviously aimed at the Levo SL. They copied a few of the design features and even the cover for the charger port is very similar. I like Orbea’s updated geometry and overall look. I’d have liked to have seen it pointed out that the Specialized motor is over 600g lighter than the EP8. I’d also like to see a range test between the SL and the Rise. The SL is a 48V motor and is very efficient. The EP8 has more punch, even detuned. I look forward to an in depth head-to-head review.
Cool looking bike! Still lighter than my reg +HT. Won't be long before all ebikes are really light and really affordable 👍😎
Picked mine up the other day, awesome if you thinking about getting one do so.
My wilier 101 fx hybrid weight also 16kg with fazua
I believe the description at the end is incorrect. This has a 65.6 head tube angle, not a 66.5. Big different when advertising modern geo
That’s a nice bike. Is the 140 travel on the front fork capable for aggressive riding tho. 🤔
would think so with a fox 36
Yea the 36 is a very capable fork Craig! Fox only launched the 38mm this year for much bigger travel bikes. A lot of slopestyle and big dirt jump riders use the 36mm chassis as it's more than stiff enough for aggressive riding.
@@embn I’ve got a cube action team 140 hpc 2020. With fox 36 fork. I was going to upgrade to the fox 38. But since you said that about 36mm I think I will leave it now buying the 38’s. Thanks for getting back to me. 👍🏻
@@embn I'm hoping the 36 on this bike can be set up to be relatively plush. Any feedback on your experience on small bump compliance?
Depends of your weight
Great ride, great price.
Design for small lightweight riders also should have the option full power 85nm and it cost too much
Looks like a mere 10 months waiting list for this bike.
I am about your height but a little heavier. What bike do you own? I am in the market and I am need to get a good recommendation . Heavier rider
Many of these Horst link suspensions from other brands all look like Specialized now. This motor is a little loud?
16 kg! A new record I guess, especially with 60 Nm on tap?
It's very light!
😂
Feels like a commercial for Orbea
I want these in 120mm travel.
OMG and I just got a WILD hehe. Slight different use and well while i become fitter for a Rise..... what are your thoughts on these two EMTB network?
I really don't mind my emtb looking like it has a motor etc not in any way worried about others opinion if that's a concern for some, for me a 500w external battery is better for swapping with a spare which I can carry because its more compact, better in the winter as I can keep it out of the cold for storage and charging.Having everything internal may look swish but maintenance and repairs can be a lot harder.A little extra weight can actually help off road, each to their own and probably a nice ride but I'll stick to my old full fat mk1.
So 2 more years until the sub 20 KG models get more affordable. I like this trend.
Yep the battery technology is coming and it will drop prices all around I am thinking.
I wanted to ask a specific question about the stiffness of the frame ... is it not based on the rear damper?
My Orbea with ordinary EP8 motor on my channel. It was delivered brand new with 85 nm.
What about the rise m10 and m20 weights?? Could you give any information???
Great vid Steve, lovely bike, and great concept, however, I’m no shredder (60 year old non-shredder) and for my £5k budget, I can get a similar spec full power (&weight) ebiike. But at probably 7kg lighter than the Cube and Radon’s I’m looking at, is the power to weight ratio much different?
Nice use of the pointy stick again by the way !
Hey thanks! I guess all this comes down to how much you weigh to!
@@stevejones7956 , good thinking! With my bulk I’d best go fo a full fat bike !
14kg for the normal lightest? The lightest commercially available ones are 12kg and custom ones are around 10 sometimes
Show me a 10kg 150mm bike
@@b-manz @dangerholm on Instagram, this dude even built a 13kg dh bike
An Ebike you can get over stiles, that's the important test. My T130 is enough for me to wangle over those.
Yup, it's an important consideration right?
BAD A BING BAD A BOOM BISH BASH BOSH , KING of the jungle EMBN get to test the new Beast from orbea...... everyone else is waiting.... boo hoo 🤔

Does it feels like a 16kg bike, when its off? Or does it feels like more?
Let me guess I can't get a test ride on 1 anywhere in the UK and iv gotta wait 6months after paying for it to get my hands on it.
My question is why has Europe got plenty of stock and we haven't?
Revenge for brexit :)
Hi Ben, i can hopefully update you on that soon
Thats me sorted at last , now where do i get one?
Ebike starting to make sense, at last.
Love the review. This bike will sell like hotcakes.
Someday when a light eMTB has 600+ Wh battery and stays around 16kg, I will be hard pressed not to buy one. My spouse might kill me though 😁
I wanna stay fit on my legs but I will try one of these light eMTB for sure. Some days ago the released the new Orbea Rise H with a bigger battery with round about 19kg and made of aluminium. I will await the carbon version with 17kg? We will see
False advertising? or just bad journalist research? the bike being ridden is easily 18.5kg . The 16kg claimed is a headline figure for a version that would barely make it through a puddle of mud.
Agreed
Levo Sl vs Orbea Rise ?!? What's better ?
From what I've read, The Levo SL has a more plush suspension, but I like the Orb because of the power, shimano components, and value.
Wow! I like it. But that won’t be cheap.
How was the motor rattle on descents?
That EP8 RS is limited to 60Nm, is that because it's lighter?
Just tell us the price at the start because I'm sick of wasting time getting to the end only to find out I can't bloody afford it. Perhaps a few reviews on ebikes that us general public can afford? TIA👍
Can you rattle off some geo numbers? Or maybe you did and I didn't catch it
When are people going to be able to afford an ebike so they can enjoy mountain biking
Yes
Long range, Nice review
Is it about this bike's Low Weight or is it about the bike's Long Range? For me it's about either., as both the weight and range are awesome. So for me, it's about PRICE.
Is that 16kg claimed weight, or did you actually weigh it? With pedals?
