Orbea Rise Review | Orbea Takes A Gamble On The Lightweight e-MTB Segment

  • The Orbea Rise takes a very different approach, using a smaller battery and a de-tuned Shimano EP8-RS motor to create a sub-19kg electric mountain bike. But is it just a limp e-MTB that's held back by reduced power? Or does Orbea's concept bring something genuinely new to the e-Table?

    Great review, I have been searching for this type of full review and it delivered. I have a M10 on order, and have only had a 10 min ride on a shop model so wanted to learn more, at 55 and have been riding mtbs for 35 yrs and this is the pinnacle for me. Tried full fat ebikes and they feel like I,m just hanging on as a passenger plus I found them so awkward to lift over gates and onto bike racks, this bike is the sweet spot!

    Great review for someone thinking of a lower power ebike. Flow reviews are really in-depth and useful for the potential buyer, keep them coming.

    Thanks for the good video packed with interesting contend, to compare the range of the integrated battery, you have to give a hint how fit you are without motor power. How exhausted do you are riding 40-50km with 1400-1500HM on a bio-bike? I am not that fit and could manage to go 30km with up to 400HM without a motor. How much range could I get out of the battery?

    I bought an Orbea Rise M10 with the Vault hub. After 8mths and limited rides I was getting a loud pinging noise from the rear hub. On inspection I found that the teeth on the Vault hub were rounded along with the pawls. Clearly the hub is not fit for purpose on an ebike and I do not understand why Orbea are fitting standard mtb components on ebikes!!!
    The loads incurred on an ebike rear hub are massive compared to that of a conventional bike. So at considerable expense (£450) I have changed out my rear hub to DT Swiss who actually make ebike compatible hubs.

    Nice review. I would really like to ride one. I ride a 2018 levo carbon mullet with trail set on 35% / 55% which is enough for nearly everything and probably similar to RS output.The bonus is 2018 brose motors are nearly completely silent and reliable. Also have a 2020 levo but a bit noisier and reliability???
    I'm nearly back to my birth weight at 63kg so Emtb weight not critical.

    great review, although there is no word about the suspension - how can I block front/rear shock on climbs or flat fine roads, where I dont need the suspension?

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  2 года назад +2

      Hi there Luis!
      There's actually quite a lot of discussion in the video about the suspension performance. However, we have even more detail about suspension setup and tuning in the full review: flowmountainbike.com/tests/orbea-rise-review/
      In regards to locking out the suspension, the rear shock has a 3-position compression lever that gives you Open, Trail & Firm settings. The Firm position is not quite a full lockout, but it does firm up the back end a lot.
      The fork is a Fox 36 GRIP2, which has adjustable high and low-speed compression adjustment and is beautifully supple and well controlled, but doesn't have a lockout. If you want a lockout, Orbea offers the Rise with a Fox 34 FIT4 fork that offers a 3-position compression lever for locking out the front suspension.
      Hope that helps!

    I wonder if there is a way to retune the motor to full power? I think that would be awesome option if you wanted to do a shortish rides, then you could just change the max tune back to 60w when you want more range.

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  3 года назад +2

      Hey there Harry! We asked Orbea that question and this was the response: "Even if it’s possible, we recommend not doing this because the customer will lose the warranty and all the electronics will be under risk." So it sounds like they don't recommend it! [Wil]

    After about 3 years the last Keurig stopped working ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf initially was able to unblock, however eventually we couldn't fix. That one was a replacement unit sent by the manufacturer after we had problems with our very first Keurig. This works fine (lol, at least for now) however I didn't realize the water reservoir was so much smaller than our prior unit. With 2 people having one or two cups of coffee each morning, it seems like I'm refilling it daily. Otherwise just happy to have the convenience of pod coffee vs. making a morning pot.

      @@stevedzurilla2436 There's not 7 grands worth of technology there. The drive train is not up to the job on some of these E bikes & will need replacing after a few months of riding. I will stick to my pro caliber for now.

    Isn’t it just underpowered battery wise rather than “efficient” as you described it.

    • @bradsanders6954
      @bradsanders6954 Год назад

      I wonder about that, any motor can be ran in low power or eco mode, but has the higher power when desired, the shimano motor weighs the same rather its limited or not limited....................I tend to think power and range are at the top of a lot of riders charts.

    Good review but please stop using the term "full power" to describe overweight bikes. It is easy to use a 3rd party app to tune the EP8 RS to those same specs. The Rise can easily be "full power"
