- I've tested multiple HDMI cables, wiring direct to TV, giving it 15+ minutes to sort out the problem. My HDMI port looks fine (I checked it thoroughly before using it the first time). One marked difference in my system is that the power button completely fails to respond to touch once powered on and pulsating blue....which is not good. I can't even turn it off without unplugging it (which I have only done after 15+ minutes time)
Yeah so much for getting this thing setup tonight..... right out of the box....nice and blue...
Shipped through Amazon/UPS if that matters...

Update: Drove 2.5 hours to a remote Sony Store that gave a shit and got a replacement which worked right away.

Did you try unplugging the system and the plugging it back in to see if that would work?
No, I bought a $400 gaming device, tried to plug it in once and decided there was no way that I made a mistake while connecting it. I then proceeded to put it directly back into it's box before trying any silly troubleshooting steps like unplugging it and plugging it back in. Read the description.

1. press ON (normal) BLoD, no picture - 1 beep
2. press and hold 7sec (safe mode) - turns on BLoD then shuts down after 7 secs (same as 1.) - 1 beep
3. Controller not connecting (works on pc/usb)
4. Original HDD + SSD (Samsung 840 500GB from PS3-reformated in fat32) = see 1 & 2.
5. 5 different HDMI cables, original + PS3 power cable
6. plug out HDD, start, off, reinsert HDD, start = see 1 & 2.
Samsung UE46ES5505 (works just fine with PS3/HDMI incl. HDMI control)
I'm fresh out of ideas.
