- As you might know, back around November I started having problems with my PS4. One of the problems was the blue light of death. Its basically where when turning on the PS4, it wont actually connect to the TV, the TV stays a black screen. Instead of the light bar being white it stays blue. This is an easy fix but the problem can be deeper if this doesn't fix your problem.

When I turn on my ps4 in does a storage check and says it'll restart the ps4 after then it goes to the black screen with the PlayStation logo then it fades to just a black screen for like 30 minutes and then it turns off.
When I try to change my resouloition its still just leads to a black screen please help.

I was seconds away from tossing out my PS4. Nothing worked, not even this. When you go to safe mode, check to see if update 8.03 was successfully installed. Apparently, this update does not always show up on the main menu when you check to see if your PS4 is up to date. I tried 5 times to update this through safe mode to no avail. Finally the 6th possibly the 7th try it worked. Just keep trying and don't give up. Mine is totally fixed now.

@@DallasPlaysMods I went ahead and unplugged my ps4 and put it in a box along with all my games to it. I guess i’ll take the L for no reason seeing that it was only a couple yr old system that I didn’t even run into the ground. I accepted the fact that I’m done with Sony for good.😅👌 I’ll most definitely be looking towards a PC in the future. I hope you have more luck than I had man, I tried alot of things and just finally got fed up. All I can suggest is to go on PlayStation.com and download their system software update onto a usb, then kick the ps4 into safe-mode and choose ‘update system software via usb’. I couldn’t download the update file on my Chromebook, so that’s why i’m done dealing with it.😅 Good luck man.🤞 Be sure to read up on the usb method too.

Im an idiot. Mine was blinking blue for like 30 minutes and all i had to do was hold the power button in for like 15 seconds. I tried doing it before but it didnt work but now it is

It wasn’t the resolution for me it was the power supply cable but the fact that was even an option relieved a lot of stress because it made me realize I had three ways of trying to fix it before having to get new parts thanks great video

@@Pointman11111 yeah well the power supply cable is just the cable that you plug into the wall socket out whatever your plugging your PlayStation into my girlfriends PlayStation did some crazy stuff and I had to replace her power supply cable with mine and after that it was working fine
After i choose ok from the resolution option in safe mode my PS4 doesn’t restart and the screen where it says select a video output resolution does not pop up

seen a video were a guy simply used a hair dryer on the back vents i dug up my old hair dryer set it to highest setting pointed it at the back vents for about 2 minutes and bam everything came to life again! I hope this helps someone else having a bad day.

Thank you so much, I reset my resolution and when I clicked ‘yes’ my PS4 continued to blind blue for maybe 20 minutes. I was very sad, but when I came back I noticed the screen where it says “automatic” and I clicked that. And my ps4 started working again.
So if this is your problem and after resetting the resolution your Ps4 continues to be on a black screen and blinking blue, wait an hour or half an hour and you’ll see the resolution screen once more

No bullshit this actually worked had a white ps4 broke March 23rd 2020 was moved on bough another one but every once in a while I plug it up to see if anything has changed long story short It blinked blue until the resolution screen came up for me and clicked it and now I got 2 fully working ps4 so please don’t give up

He was right, I have a PS4 Pro that was hooked up to a 4K TV that was set at 4K. My PlayStation restarted for some reason and lowered the resolution down so therefore my TV would not pick it up. Switched to a different HDMI and it came right on. Redid my settings to 4K put back in HDMI spot on television that is the 4K one everything worked fine. Thank you very much buddy

Following problem, while blue light of death, I can't turn the ps4 off, unless I plug it out, if I try your fix, it restarts the ps4 and the system data warning thingy pops up and restarts again and I'm stuck in blue light of death again, I even already initialized the ps4 and it keeps happening, is there a way to turn it off without plugging out the cable

I just unplug it whiles its just blinking..(blue light) then plug it back in and press the power button.. it shud beep afrer 2 seconds and cme right on.hope this helps.

Hey bro I had this problem, I just let it into rest mode the night, and then the next day I just power it on and DIRECTLY push it for 10 seconds
And guys I FIGUIRED IT OUT, IF NONE OF THESE OPTIONS ARE WORKING FOR YOU, WHAT I DID WAS GO ON SAFE MODE BY HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON UNTIL YOU GET 2 BEEPS AND GO ON SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE. I updated and got it working again!!!

Same here...been like that for over a year...thought it was my external Hard drive that was corrupted, it always repairs once it turns on...used to work afterva few tries, now its far and between

Removed the HDD and put it back in.... and did the same with the HDMI cable..... and it worked.... thank god :D

How old is your PS4 and have any idea what causes this blue light of death?. I just want to take care of my PS4 slim to the point I even brought dust proof, power surge cables and always staying cooler. I just don't want to experience again with my PS3 slim, DVD and capacitor got fixed and cost me $49 to pay the technician.
@@rommelbonsun2665 Mine is at least 5 years old, probably older. I couldn't tell you what caused mine to malfunction, but I haven't had any problems since watching this video. (Knock on wood)
@@Lord_Malkior mine froze last might, and went into the bld. I've tried updating, initializing, hdmi cords and all that. Nothing has worked. It's an old gen console. It was fine yesterday, but when I got home from work. The 9.51 update last night I think is what caused my ps4 to shit the bed

So guys, what happened to me is that when i turn my PS4 on it shows that apparently I turned it off when the PS4 wasn't fully off, witch didn't happen, but, anyways, it restarted and showed the PS4 icon, then just a black screen and the BLOD, what I did is just wait the PS4 to turn oof itself, then enter safe mode and use one of this options: 1, 3 or 5, it always works for me. You're welcome if this fixed your problem!
My son PlayStation 4 just flashes the blue light that's it. The PlayStation logo pops up and when it disappears he gets a black screen but the Blue light still flashes blue. Idk wtf wrong with it.

You gotta download the update from PlayStation website onto a USB, there videos in how to do it, then go to safe mode and click the 7th option with the usb plugged in to your ps4. It’s gon delete everything on your ps4, but if you have ps plus your game data should be saved

This was amazing!!! Somehow my TV got put on low power mode, and just putting back to regular fixed the BLOD instantly.

Dude i have a super easy fix unplug the power from your ps4 and turn it off and remove all usbs for like 1 min and boom

ジReverse_-Hydro I put my ps4 into safety mode and fixed the resolution problem with no issues. The ps4 came back to the screen so I thought I fixed it. However, I tried it again last night and the ps4 wouldn’t turn on. I even put in into safe mode again but it wouldn’t connect to the tv or turn on.

When I put mine into safe mode it completely freezes and won’t let me choose “change resolution” but it lets me choose “restart ps4”

Thanks. I gave my niece my old ps4 and one of her friends turned it off wrong. I'm guessing it messed up the resolution somehow. I had problems putting it into safe mode. Finally was able to get it to work. I thought that I was SOL because it did a hard drive check when I changed the resolution settings. The console turned off after blinking blue a few times. I turned it back on an wallah!

OMG it worked!!! I updated first in safe mode to see if that would let me check the resolution because when I tried the first time I couldn't as it was installing the update I noticed my pic was considerably smaller for some reason since when this started I was on it!!! So I reset the res an viola it worked thank u so much!!!!
How long does it take to get to the resolution adjustment screen ?

@@rougegang3027 yes but if this happens it's actually going to be a continuous thing that happens. It's still a hard drive issue and it'll quit hold the new sony update and you'll have to go into safe mode and re-update anytime you turn your system off

Its costing me $395 to fix this problem!! I just took my ps4 in for this repair last week!! Not to mention just 2-3 months ago i literally just got it back from the repair shop because of power supply issues an that costed me just under $300 to fix!! I did try this method but i was too impatient to wait for anything to pop up on my tv screen!! I only waited 2-3min MAX lol I wonder if this problem occurred because of the power supply repair they recently did?

It worked, took a good minute or two to go from the black screen and blinking blue light to the automatic/screen resolution option. It is now rebuilding database after i submitted the report to playstation it prompted me with. I had originally selected rebuild database in safe mode from the beginning but thats when i got the blue light of death along with just briefly showing the playstation logo before going into the black screen.

If it still won't turn on for you even after safe mode then just unplug the PlayStation, wait about a minute then plug it back in. Once it turns on just hold the power button for seven seconds until you hear a beep then it'll go into safe mode where you then just follow what it says
I've done this twice and it has worked both times
