What I just cannot stand about these companies Sony/Microsoft is their lack of robust console engineering. After many years and successive generations here we all are still having to look this up because of a well documented flaw, just like the rest. They have just refused to improve on what they know to be open to faults. I hardly played my PS4 it’s 4 years old and the power has now tripped meaning it goes off after 5 seconds. Built in redundancies are a very real aspect of these companies revenue streams and their path to getting max numbers over to next gen. I am so sick and tired of them charging exorbitant prices for low time yield consoles. They should be forced to reveal the actual life expectancy and extend their warranties. Greed is not good when you are manipulating your markets and taking advantage of all of us.
Thanks so much for sharing, tried everything else since most others pointed at power supply, but your method is the only one that got my PS4 up and running again
To get that top cover off, turn the PlayStation away from you, pull up the top right corner by the power button (the only side that comes up easily) then without putting pressure anywhere else, pull the top left up (PS4 still facing away from you) by getting your fingers in the gap. He has the perfect technique on his very first attempt 7:40 but it's the wrong side. And yes, I figured this out after like 15 mins of getting frustrated with it lol, but it's easy once you get it right...good luck!!
My PS4 doesn't have that removable metal plate. Started turning on then off last week, but now it's won't even start, just the blue light comes on for 1 second. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the tutorial! so this worked for me, but my PS4 overheats shortly into playing a game. Any tip? Already cleaned all the dust out, so not sure what the issue is now.
It could be that the thermal paste is dried up that is one of the common problems that cause The PS4 to overheat I have a video on my channel that shows how to clean it on the inside and also add new thermal paste.
Hello mate, I got given a PS4 yesterday for spares or repairs, it wouldn’t turn on, so I put another power pack in it and it turns on for like a second then turns off, I have tried 2 washers either side, how easy are the chips to repair?
Ok thanks sir it was the power supply, I found out when I was lightly filing the solder balls and its almost powered on but didn't and thats as far as I got
Hello my friend I have a question So I was playing on my ps4 late night so my dad wake up and took it . But I turned down the ps4 and my dad hide it but I heard a hard punch as my dad hit it on the desk but by accident. Yesterday I wanted to play mmm the ps4 pieps and don’t open aslo it doesn’t show the blue light or any kind of lights do you know what kind of problem is this ( thank you for reading and sorry if is have wasted your time and my English) 🙏🏼
I think that the surface of the heat sink needs to be cleaned. It sounds like it’s not making good contact with the APU. The combination of the video card and processor that is combined into one on the system. Basically I think it’s overheating and if you clean the heat sink with isopropyl alcohol and make sure that the heat sink is seated properly and making contact. I think it should work.
Mines does the same thing it wont turn on and the white light doesn't come on it just blinks blue I wish I had the tools to open it tho and it overheats alot
I have stripped my sons ps4 down and its not got that brackett on and hes had the ps4 from new so its not been removed is there away i can fix the problem still what your showing thanks
My son has two play sations currently down I will be trying this tomorrow and will update if it works. I have former computer repair training with the Govt so let see what happens!
Ive got one refurbished from gamestop and apparently they just threw little foam pads underneath the heat sink bracket, which will increase pressure on the heat sink, which now serves no purpose because the heat can't dissipate into the metal housing. Im sure thats why it no longer works. Thanx gamestop.
Does this problem cause all your data to be lost. I have a slim version and incur the exact same issue so how do I fix that model. And can you tell me the reasons as to why this issue happens in the first place. It would be a miracle if you reply to all these questions.
All of your data is still intact but you should get into the practice of backing it up on the PlayStation cloud or on a back up hard drive. The reason why this happens is because of weak solder joints that comes loose over time.

It could be what I would suggest is just to clear your head from your frustration set it to the side for a few minutes and then try to retrace your steps and think did you put every connection in the right way and is there anything you could’ve done wrong. Believe in yourself and just have patience. I wish there was more I could do from the Internet but I can’t I hope you get it working again.

sir, I click the Power Button then heard the beep noise with the blue light flashing but when I touch the Power Button again it wont start. I had to switch off and on the power supply again ? it the CPU or Power supply problem ?
I know that your answer can not be a definitive one because I think that proper diagnostics have to be perform. But, at the beginning you said that the ps4 turning the light and the fan indicates that it is an APU problem. What happens if a ps4 used to that, sometimes stay on for a while and turn off and now simply wont turn on? Im just asking now because I’m curious and would like to know what are your thoughts, I’ll get a multimeter later to properly check the power supply and finally know if I have to replace it or fix the APU. Thanks in advance!
It depends on what you mean about coming on if you mean that it Powers up or if it Powers up and get to signal on your TV or monitor. If you actually get a video signal on your monitor and it goes off, then it is most likely the power supply. If the consul itself powers on and there is no video and then it powers off it’s still could be multiple things such as an icy chip you know the APU could need to be reflowed it’s really hard to say, but yes, bringing out the multi meter and trying a power supply. If you have access to one would be some of the first places I would start sounds like you’re on the right track my friend.
You might not answer but my PS4 slim like threw two sparks when I tried turning it on the I tried to turn it on and it turns on but after a second it turns right off any idea what the problem could be I tried the flat washer thing but it didn’t solve anything
Without looking at it I wouldn’t know but I can give you some ideas I would try running a multimeter to the power supply also make sure there’s no dust particles in there clean it out with compressed air.
So I tried it and it work turn it off to put the cover back on and it started doing the same thing again is there anything else I can try or is that it.😢
The washer I used was 5 mm but you can use any size that you want as long as it puts pressure up against the motherboard and you can get the case back on.
My ps4 does the same thing but onnce i press the power button once the light wont come on at all untill i unplug the ps4 and then plug it back on but then even like that it only turns on for like a second
Hello man , if u can help me whats goin on , thanks so much I got my ps4 like 1 year ago , but didnt play much on it , yesterday i wanted to play sum , I put the hdmi on , the cable that turns it on , but when i touched the line , it stayed Blue for 3 seconds , and then it turned off . Idk how to fix it , is possible to be any problem inside it ? ( sorry for my bad english )
If it turns on for a four minute then shuts off then it is possible that it is overheating and that you may need to do a cleaning that can be arranged from just blowing it out with compressed air and making sure it is in a well ventilated area or it could be as complex as you need to take apart your PlayStation and clean it with isopropyl alcohol and also put new thermal paste on the heat sink that covers the APU of your PlayStation.
What if the blue light only come once and then it doesnt turn on whenever i touch the power button.. But when i off and on the ps4 switch the blue light still off and never pop out again unless i turn off and on the switch
Idk if you will see this but can you help me because my PlayStation will turn on then I will hear 3 beeps after it turns on and the system will shut off
Mine does this but only once then I have to unplug it from the power outlet and put it back in then I press it again and it beeps once then I have to repeat . No light comes on. Would this work ?
My ps4 right now is very weird and very inconsistent. Ever since the problem started. The shortest time before it randomly shut off was literally 1 second. The longest time before it shut off randomly was 4 hours. And there was also a problem that I couldn't turn it on again but after 2 hours, I could already. What could be the problem? My power supply is also new
Without looking at it I would not know but you could try something as simple as using compressed air and blowing it out and make sure it is not a temperature thing of it getting hot. If that does not help I would say it is the solder joints and it might need to be re-balled or re flowed.
@@Mr_Goody Thank you for the quick response. I had a feeling too its the solder joints. I just also had this cleaned and the fan is also new. Keep up the good work! I gladly appreciated your help
Reflowing the board is not for beginners I don’t think it’s hard it’s just like painting it’s something you have to kind of practice at before you get the hang of it. It’s usually a little expensive to have someone do it that is why you would want to check around at different shops to see if they do it and to see how much and compare prices.
That usually means that there is a loose connection with the Sauter on the motherboard in your PlayStation and this video sometimes fixes the problem by pushing the solder joints together by getting a better connection but if it is too bad then it will not work and you will technically need to re-Sauter or it’s called reflow your motherboard.
If the washer trick doesn’t work you will have to re-solder the motherboard which takes some technical skills with soldering and if you don’t have that you would have to take it to a repair shop.
Awesome thanks man :) , I've got a problem, I stripped my pS4, cleaned it fully , replaced the fan etc all correctly , put it back together, it'll turn on for a second then turns straight off without the fan even having time to start, I know the fan is in correct, I had a guy look to make sure, ah man help 😭
I don’t know exactly without looking at it but I would say it sounds like the power supply right off make sure you test your power supply with the volt meter and also look for anything that doesn’t look right on the motherboard itself.
@@Mr_Goody ah thank you :) , I'll get on to that & maybe just replace the power supply anyways as it's struggling ,thank you :) merry Christmas and happy new year :)
If you watch the video, I tell people that their warranty will be voided if they take the stickers off and I also explain that they usually get a year warranty from their console manufacturer such as Somy or Microsoft. I also tell them to do this if they feel confident in doing this themselves I’m only trying to help people save money and fix their own systems themselves. I don’t mean any ill will by making these videos to help people. I simply want them to be confident in themselves in fixing their systems and to save money. Thank You for your feedback. ✌️👍 and also one other final note this model of PlayStation is over 5 years old so these models are way out of warranty so the sticker doesn’t mean a thing.
If you don’t believe me that I warn about not removing the sticker then just go to the video at 6:44 and make sure that if your deaf to turn up the volume so you can hear exactly that I’m telling you that if you remove the sticker it will void a warranty 😉. And also know that this console model is over five years old anyway and is way out of any warranty that Sony ever provided. So you’re just talking a lot of crap about my video and all I’m trying to do is help people fix their system. Next time watch the video before you make smart ass remarks.
If you try this method and it does not work then you will need to re-solder the APU of the motherboard this method is worth a try and works about half the time for people that want to try it before they try soldering.
What if the ps4 turns on, works perfectly for about 30 minutes, I hear a low sound for a second, and 10 seconds later it turns off (as if someone unplugged the power cable) then if I try turning it on again, it turns on then off just like in the video, if I leave it for some hours then try it again, the whole story repeats again starting from the 30 minutes thing. It was dusty but I have cleaned it well and put it in a ventilated place and even the fan doesn't make loud sounds at all so I am ruling out thermal problems. Since it turns on and works perfectly for some time, I am ruling out power supply unit problems as well. It is a base first model 500 gb ps4 I have had for about 5 years now and it didn't have any problems ever before. What should I do? P.S: we don't have amazon or ebay in Egypt so I can't get thermal paste or any stuff like this, I can only get screws maybe washers from local stores. Model: CUH-1116A
To me it sounds like it’s overheating and unfortunately it may need thermal paste just like you think but you could try using compressed air and cleaning it out first and making sure the vents to the PlayStation for where the airflow goes through is not blocked by anything another possible thing it could be but I do not think it is is the power supply. I wish you luck my friend and if you need any more help just let me know I hope you get it up and running.
You try the steps in the video, if that doesn't work then you will more than likely will have to reflow the entire motherboard with solder. Its not an easy process but works. It may be more cost effective to buy a used Playstation 4 these days.
hey mine is also first generation but it doesnt have to put those washers so i dont know what to do every other ps4 has those screwed to put the washers on thank you
To my knowledge if you don’t have that the only thing you can do is to re-flow which means to re-solder the motherboard which is a lengthy process and requires soldering skills.
What do you mean foam under the bracket anything that was originally there you put back usually there is nothing there you don’t need any foam. This method doesn’t work all the time as I stayed in the video but it works quite a bit more than you would expect if you try this method and it doesn’t work then you will need to re-flow and re-solder your APU or CPU and GPU.
This fix doesn’t always fix every PlayStation if it worked for a day and it’s not working again then you will most likely need to do what they call a re-ball or a reflow of the APU on the motherboard it is a very involved process if you do not know how to Solder.
It’s still working two years on. But like I said this is a temporary fix and it could last two minutes two seconds or two years or even more it’s just not guaranteed but it is worth a try.
@@Mr_Goody yes it's worth a try for sure. Mine just started doing this yesterday and if I leave it sitting for a while and go back it stays powered on longer but still powers off and powers off immediately if I powers on again... Doesn't seem to be that bad but I guarantee if I tighten it down like you did it'll probably fix it for a good long while.. Thanks for the video man 😎🎯💯
@@Mr_Goody by chance, you wouldn't know what size washers you use for that do you? I don't expect you to remember after 2 years lol but just in case you do..
This usually means it’s overheating and when you say clean do you mean you erased files or did you physically clean it, One good thing to check is to see if you put fresh thermal paste underneath the heat sink to absorb the heat. Also make sure that the PlayStation is not blocked by any walls or anything and that the vents are away objects that could block it.
You are correct when you cleaning the PS4 if the thermal pads are ripped or have dents than they need to be replaced but if you are careful and they are in good condition you can reuse them. And also as I explained in the video replacing dried up thermal paste is a must too.
5 mm washers but you can actually use any washer that you want as long as it makes a tight fit with the clamp and the processor. The washers purpose is to tighten the clamp down farther because the reason it is not coming on is because the processor Solder is not holding up and having a loose connection so when you tighten the connection with the washers it gives a better connection. This method works sometimes but when it doesn’t then you will need to get your motherboard reflowed or Reballed.
hey man is your ps4 stop works after 10 or 6 mins? if yes then plz tell cause iam alsp having same problem and iam comfuse beetween should change my power supply or fix washers
The first thing you should try to do is to reboot your PS4 in safe mode and follow the steps on my video and choose rebuild database and if this does not work it could be your hard drive intermittently going bad.

There shouldn’t be any foam underneath the bracket.
Need thermal pads there
Hello
Please my ps4 model dosent have that bracket
What can i do ?
Just click on my Instagram account on my RUclips channel banner and send me a message there and I will try my best to help you.
My ps4 turns on and after a min it turns off automatically and it won't turn on and the fan is running slow what to do
If it turns on for a four minute then shuts off then it is possible that it is overheating and that you may need to do a cleaning that can be arranged from just blowing it out with compressed air and making sure it is in a well ventilated area or it could be as complex as you need to take apart your PlayStation and clean it with isopropyl alcohol and also put new thermal paste on the heat sink that covers the APU of your PlayStation.
Works. Thank you.
Your Welcome my friend, happy gaming.
What if the blue light only come once and then it doesnt turn on whenever i touch the power button.. But when i off and on the ps4 switch the blue light still off and never pop out again unless i turn off and on the switch
You will probably need to reflow the APU and this method will not work unfortunately.
Just did exactly what you said and it worked 😬😬 thank god I didn’t want to buy another system
Your Welcome my friend ✌️👍
Idk if you will see this but can you help me because my PlayStation will turn on then I will hear 3 beeps after it turns on and the system will shut off
Message me tomorrow on my Instagram and I will try my best to help you. The link to my Instagram is up on the links on my banner page.
Worked🤲🏽🤲🏽🤲🏽
👍
My ps4 shows the ps logo then shuts off. Do you think this could be the issue or the HDD?
Usually it won’t completely shut off with this error. Is it an older style ps4? If so it could be over heating.
You could try this fix it’s very possible it could help you.
What washer type for the screw fit? M4? , M12?
Did you figure it out?
@@Dj24Prince no i just used a regular soda tab and works fine
Mine does this but only once then I have to unplug it from the power outlet and put it back in then I press it again and it beeps once then I have to repeat . No light comes on. Would this work ?
I mean it certainly wouldn’t hurt anything.
Mine does the same
Hey charles your problem to your PS4 solve?
You’re welcome my friend 👍✌️
@@Mr_Goody Sorry I may ask again. Is re-balling or reflowing the solder joints hard? How much is it?
Reflowing the board is not for beginners I don’t think it’s hard it’s just like painting it’s something you have to kind of practice at before you get the hang of it. It’s usually a little expensive to have someone do it that is why you would want to check around at different shops to see if they do it and to see how much and compare prices.
Can that method also work on ps4 slim models
No, it is only for the launch models only.
What can I do now..this didn't work for me...its still coming on and cutting off
if all i hear is one beep and a single blue flash what does that mean ? system does not turn on at all.
@@Mr_Goody so i should give the washer trick a go and if that doesn’t work what should i do ?
If the washer trick doesn’t work you will have to re-solder the motherboard which takes some technical skills with soldering and if you don’t have that you would have to take it to a repair shop.
@@Mr_Goody how much does that cost ? is it 100% an issue with the motherboard or could it be my power supply ? i really don’t know
Without looking at it personally I can’t guarantee what it is but I would say 80% probably the hard drive and 20% something else.
My device will turn on and display blue llight and that all when i try the safe mode or soft rest mode it will off
Use my channel banner at the top and click on my Instagram link and send me a message and I will try my best to help you.
Ended up looking for a new pS4, as on inspection there were a few big problems with it, miracle it was still running to be honest haha
Thank you for the update my friend and I hope you get back up and gaming soon ✌️👍
@@Mr_Goody your welcome :) , thank you,I'll be back gaming soon haha, I can't really afford it but it has to be done 🙃
thank you
Your Welcome.
Every person who took off the stickers before he told u your warranty will be voided
I tried this with two washers and 3 washers each but it’s still the same any suggestion
If you try this method and it does not work then you will need to re-solder the APU of the motherboard this method is worth a try and works about half the time for people that want to try it before they try soldering.
@@Mr_Goodycan you make a video about this method
Can you send me links to where to buy all the tools to open the ps4 and fix it
What is the model of your PS4 ?
mine is ps4 fat
Sorry what the name of the screw driver please it's urgent
It should tell you in the video I don’t know right off hand.
What screwdriver do use to take the heat sink bracket out
Yo where did u buy those washers?
Rural King, but you should be able to buy them at any local hardware store.
@@Mr_Goody love u man thanks I'm going to make sure to leave a sub
Love you too. And thank you for subscribing ✌️👍
@@Mr_Goody no problem u helped me fix my ps4 so I'm helping with a sub
Pls help me how to open the right cover pls
Mine stays on for about 5 secs then turns off what do i do ive spent all day trying to fix it but cant
Where do you find these washers pls tell me
Rural king or any local hardware store, mine costed me .53 cents total.
plz what is the name of the screw
It is the regular screw that holds the PlayStation together and I just used a 5 mm washer that you can buy at just about any hardware store.
From which did u find this washers?
You can buy them at any local hardware store are used 8 mm thick washers. It should cost you $.50 or under.
It's rarely the power supply. I work on electronics myself. Could not have done it by better.
You are the best
Thank You, I’m glad the video helped you 👍✌️
Do we need the foam under the bracket to do it
What do you mean foam under the bracket anything that was originally there you put back usually there is nothing there you don’t need any foam. This method doesn’t work all the time as I stayed in the video but it works quite a bit more than you would expect if you try this method and it doesn’t work then you will need to re-flow and re-solder your APU or CPU and GPU.
The washers should be what size?
They are about the size and thickness of an American nickel.
Hi good day I did not and it worked for d day and it's out again wat can I do now
This fix doesn’t always fix every PlayStation if it worked for a day and it’s not working again then you will most likely need to do what they call a re-ball or a reflow of the APU on the motherboard it is a very involved process if you do not know how to Solder.
How long did the system last before it crashed again after this fix?
@@tynandill926 Your welcome my friend ✌️👍
No I sure don’t know the size but I remember they were about the size and a thick as a nickel. An American nickel.
I just cleaned my ps4 & now i cant turn it on it just beeps 3 times then shuts off?
This usually means it’s overheating and when you say clean do you mean you erased files or did you physically clean it, One good thing to check is to see if you put fresh thermal paste underneath the heat sink to absorb the heat. Also make sure that the PlayStation is not blocked by any walls or anything and that the vents are away objects that could block it.
If there's any dents in thermal pads replace them it will overheat
You are correct when you cleaning the PS4 if the thermal pads are ripped or have dents than they need to be replaced but if you are careful and they are in good condition you can reuse them. And also as I explained in the video replacing dried up thermal paste is a must too.
does this method works on the ps4 pro
No.
@@Mr_Goody do you have any other suggestions
Unfortunately the only thing that comes off the top of my head is to have the motherboard reflowed which requires soldering skills.
I ounched my pissstation like 4 times back to back full strength, i have no regrets, f console
It actually worked. Thank yoy brother. My ps4 now freezes from time to time but at least its working now
Your welcome 👍✌️
I cleaned my ps4 now i turns on beeps 3 times like its overheating and turns off but i already replaced the fan and applied new thermal paste
The clamp might be loose..the same thing was happening in mine..it was showing a red light..just try tightening the clamp
@@buttonfire6663 that was it man i appreciate that so much bro honestly
Wat size washers do i need?
5 mm washers but you can actually use any washer that you want as long as it makes a tight fit with the clamp and the processor. The washers purpose is to tighten the clamp down farther because the reason it is not coming on is because the processor Solder is not holding up and having a loose connection so when you tighten the connection with the washers it gives a better connection. This method works sometimes but when it doesn’t then you will need to get your motherboard reflowed or Reballed.
hey man is your ps4 stop works after 10 or 6 mins? if yes then plz tell cause iam alsp having same problem and iam comfuse beetween should change my power supply or fix washers
thats Grazy this shii still work
That’s good to hear ✌️👍
What size washer. Brother
So mi ps4 turns on but when it gets to the white light in turns red
That is usually a sign of overheating, or a power supply but of course I cannot be certain without actually looking at myself.
what size washers are those?
5mm washers and you can buy them at any hardware store and even Walmart.
@@Mr_Goody thanks soo much!!
we're can I get these washers?
You can get them at your local hardware store or places such as Rural King.
I put a disc in my ps4 and then this happened like 10 minutes after can you help me
The first thing you should try to do is to reboot your PS4 in safe mode and follow the steps on my video and choose rebuild database and if this does not work it could be your hard drive intermittently going bad.
@@Mr_Goody my power on button don't work
Have you checked the power supply with a multimeter? Do you see any signs of power in the console at all,
What do i do if the light just came on and cut off no beep
Then my guess would be may be the power supply but then again without looking at it in person that’s just a guess.
