I've never seen anyone look so disappointed when their engine starts, lol! That was a pretty good sales pitch, though. Yesterday my Kubota started after two tries, but my Jeep threw all kinds of codes and check engine lights, even a big red choke light. It took a warmup and a restart to get the Jeep happy. My F 150 threw an undertemp code, but cleared it.
I drove around in the Kubota, toasty warm while I checked antifreeze and started everything else.
It was so cold I cracked a brand new jug of Mopar antifreeze by setting it down too hard.
Neil,
I'm a Kubota salesman down in Jacksonville, FL area. Love the video series. There's tons of useful information jam packed into each one. I was formerly a service manager and so you have been teaching me things that I previously did not know as they were more or less things that the sales team needed such as the walk around and such. During this video you showed off your showroom shelf where you keep the fuel treatments. I did not see one that I consider to be amazing stuff. It may have been hidden from the cameras view. However there is a product that we use called K-100 that I highly recommend investigating if it is not something you already carry. Just thought I would share that product since you have shared so very much!
I look forward to more videos and wish you guys continued success.
I've ordered several NH parts from yall. really nice helpful friendly service! even though we are a Massey Ferguson family now, I still enjoy your videos.
I love the orange tractors!
That’s why I always have and always will love kubota
try that here when it's -30'C - but plugged in my Kubota always starts even in -40C. I find they won't start at about -20'C without being plugged in. I live in Manitoba Canada
another benefit of the block heater is instant heat in the cab since the coolant will already be warm
Is it really a good idea to cold start a diesel engine and just shut it right off like that? Why not let them run for a little while, warm up and get a charge to the batteries?
I have a hairdryer and blankets on my little B-1500 right now. It sat outside last night in mid-teens after I could not rebead the tire.
I have a 2018 B3350, and it sometimes takes up to 4 rounds of : a) warming the glow plugs 10 seconds b) try starting it. I live in a cold area where it gets down to -25 degree celcius in the winter. I previously had a BX1850 and never had a problem starting it.
A block heater isn't just to help the engine start easier. A very important function is to thin out the oil from the molasses state it gets into in cold weather. Take a quart of oil and stick it in the freezer overnight and then try to pour it out (some oils are better about this than others.
My 2 cylinder is cold blooded! block heater is a must!
The glowplugless engines ( eg L4600 ) are a breeze to start in cold weather . Just like car diesels thesedays . A lot of users are too impatient to give the plugs a chance . My neighbour is like this , and has to crank it over for several seconds when cold .
Thanks for all your videos and help!!
I’m a mechanic in Canada at a Kubota Dealership and if you let it glow and it gets fuel it starts most times
Premium diesel with Ice Gard highly recommended in the winter. Keeps the #2 Diesel
from coagulating. IF premium diesel is NOT AVAILABLE you can use stabilizer additives
to treat #2 Diesel. Also.......Adding Diesel #1 (Kerosene) is a great way to treat your fuel.
I got a magnet time block heater for my l 3010 haven't had it use it yet in west michigan but if you want I can make a video about it 😉
Pretty impressive you got as far as you did before finding a low battery.
there all brand new, they better start right up
I was thinking the same thing. If its new and don't start I wouldn't want it especially for the ridiculous prices they have on tractors.
Lmao right
Mate if there is ever snow on my tractor I would consider that extreme cold 🤣
That's why I bought a Kubota. We've had John Deere's before that wouldn't start when it got cold. But never a Kubota.
snow is warm
they start a little hard at 0 ready heaters are great
My BX2670 starts really hard in cold weather, if it’s gonna be below 40 deg F I make sure I plug it in
Isn't it bad to start the cold tractor and then shut it right back off
Not really.
No it really isn't. Might not sound good but as far as doing any harm, negligible.
Bad on the battery
Eli Elderton it is very bad on any engine. Most wear and tear occurs at start up. I could go on but the answer is that a cold start and shutting it down is very bad for an engine.
Was this a Paul Short inspired video? 😀. He just did a similar one, like the way you went into depth though.
We have a few Kubota tractors we got a new case last year so we where using that to feed the cows it was -40 below (Fahrenheit) the case was having problems with tear 4 crap , are Kubota 8560 has been sitting for 2 months not plugged in and she fired right up while -40
Kubota tractors are easy atotrs in cold weather my dad owns to and they don't give a shit about how cold it is they will always start some times they don't like it but they'll start regardless we livd in Wisconsin be the way
it's a Kubota. of course it's going to run
First and foremost I enjoy your videos. My friend has a 2015/2016 kubota L3301D tractor. There are (2) orange button to the left of the steering wheel, what are these for? We have no idea and I'm thinking about by the tractor from him. It only has like 87 hours on it. It has a bucket and a 5' bush hog what is it worth?
My BX1860 wouldn't start once it was below 30F. Hopefully my BX2680 will, but I keep it in a warm shop anyhow.
That knocking initially happens due to the oil being too cold and the cylinders not fully burning. Ive been told that cold starts in deep cold can damage the bearing. Is this true. On the -25c days mine has clattered before then idle smooths out.
Cold starts on any engine gas or diesel are the major cause for wear...that is why in extreme cold you want to have thinner oil the faster you get that oil pumping through the engine to vital components the longer your engine will last. Same goes for starting up a cold engine and just taking off down the highway at a high rate of speed, that'll wear an engine out pretty quick as well. This is why you see people with diesels starting them up letting them warm up and then leaving them running, they don't use very much fuel at idle, and its far easier on the engine to let it run.
That’s exactly what I do! I’m up before 6am and when I get to the garage I hop on the BX2380 that I plug in to a Block Heater with a high end Block heater timer that I set to be ready for 6am. I heat the goo plugs up for 7-10 seconds when it’s very cold and I fired it up at low idle. I head into the house and change into a snow suit and head outside. Then I shovel the snow away from the fence and house and by the time I’m done all that the engine and hydraulic oil is warmed up enough to start blowing snow. I alwAys engage the blower at low idle too. I also keep my battery plugged into a Battery Minder maintainer.
Where are you guys out of?
They started but they were not happy about it. Most of the snow feel off
very good video loved it
Messick's, please do an overview on that new Zd1511. Very little to no info available yet on that machine, thank you!
already recorded it. Will be up in a few days.
I noticed you diden't start a skid loader my 2017 kubota svl95-2s doesen't run when it is cold for more than 10-15 seconds, DRAG it to the building and it doesen't mater, call the dealer southeastern equipment and the service teck replys to my question how do you get this thing running when it is cold out, GOOD LUCK he says. Was just on here looking for answers when I ran across your video.
That would normally be gelled fuel, or bad DEF that froze.
Now if you didn't lett the glow plugs sit and just jamed the key to start ... it would be like an older diesel start
At 6:55 you are standing by a Kubota with tires as tall as you are, what model is it and do you have a video on it. I would like to find out more about it. Thank You.
+First Last we have several M series videos
mine is a bx2670 and in a 50 degree garage it hesitates for a few seconds
Kubota the best
Weere mowing about 8 acres of land that is a little hilly and very bumpy in some places. What Kubota zero turn would you guys recommend for mowing the property?
+DynamixHD zd1211
@Messick's farm equipment how come we didn't see any 7 series tractors start?
+McGinnis Farm's M7? Not sure we had stock when we made this video
Well that’s better than be at school
I bet you make sure you have premium diesel fuel in them.
Insane
That's not cold... Will it start at -40 degrees F (even with the block heater) and will the hydraulic hoses hold up in -40 deg F without rupturing?
My bx fires no matter what cold or just sitting
My kubota b7410 (2004-2007, not sure exact year) WILL NOT START in the the snow. I drained and recharged the battery 3 times, and it never did start.
Did you check the battery terminals and hookups for corrosion? Look for intermittent connections. You might need new glow plugs. My recommendation would be to contact dealer support or bring it to the dealer and have them look at it. You mentioned draining the battery and charging it again. That's not the only issue that can occur on these machines. You should've been able to tell if it was the battery or not the first time you charged it. If the dash lights don't turn on when you turn the key then your battery is shot and you need a new battery. There's really no need to drain and recharge it three times, no matter whether the dash lights worked or not. The only reason I can think of that would cause it not to start in the cold is that the engine is too cold or the glow plugs are worn out. I've never had a Kubota diesel fail me. Only time my old BX2230 wouldn't start was when it was 3 below. You shouldn't really be taking an open station machine like that out in anything colder than that anyways. Hope you can resolve this issue with your B, and hope this helped.
-Jack
Jackson Krinke I drained and recharged the battery hoping that all that cranking would help it start. Glow plugs seem likely, but that battery isn't the best. It was around 32°F, so the snow was melting off, and a tree had fallen across our driveway and needed to be pushed off. Thanks for the help :)
I thought it would be
The coldbota will start
We in the diesel world like when black smoke pours.
I would not buy a tractor I knew had been cold started before it was broken in.
they are starting because fuel is still in injector, let it run and see if it dies
Not my Kubota. 😐 She's never seen rain or snow. 😎
HAHAHA MY tractor is the one with the dead battery. Poor little twactor.
Pour warm water on the tractor after it snows and wipe the water off so they look nice in the winter
That will crack glass
A block heater doesn't heat antifreeze...
You didn't mention the last time they'd been started.
It doesn't really matter. The snow would melt on the hood if it was running recently. The fact that loose, dey snow shook off the hood shows that these machines have been sitting long enough that they are completely cold, and won't get any colder.
+Rob Poston Sorry, I meant "loose, dry snow".
It is 18 degrees right now and my Kubota won't start.
