I bought a Dewalt Li-ion heat gun a few years back just for this purpose. I'm up North and it makes cold starts on the old stuff without glow plugs or heaters a ton easier.
When I worked in the Yukon Territory we had D-8 K CAT's. In the winter we'd build a fire under he crankcase and allow the motor to begin warming BEFORE we tried to start hem up. It seemed to be effective.
done that before , also used tiger torch with about 10ft of stove pipe with an elbow on the end heated the oil pan . use to like the old John Deere and Cats with a starting engine start the small engine let it run for about 2 to 10 min the big engine would start easy even when it was 40 - 50 below
I am amazed by the in-depth knowledge of engine technology in almost every one of these videos. And the almost unbelievable performance of the starter batteries.
At 02:07: Can someone please tell the lightning bulb that he sits on a diesel engine? Pumping the pedal is useless, the engine needs heat in the combustion chamber. And a gasoline engine with a carburetor would already be hopelessly flooded.
20:59 judging by the landscape and green grass, it is clearly north and there is no temperature, for example minus 10 degrees Celsius, if it does not start, then there is no compression and the end of the piston group!!!!
@@tractorsmachinesro1405 Are you sure? The front diff looks like it's attached differently on this one apart from the other 651's I see on Google. Everybody who has atleast 1 braincell can keep it running. Think man, think! This comment comes from someone who was born in Bucharest,at still lives in it. I've seen WAYYY to many Universals in rusted conditions run great! Same goes for the Gloria (Glory in romanian) C14 harvester, those aren't in the best shape this days, but some run very well!
@@thecommentingt34 Apologies, to be clear was insinuating to see if anyone picked up the actual bigger message. Yeah ive seen all the "Will It Run?!" vids around- those are enthusiasts, you can keep them running. Where im from are farmers though, and many complained about their reliability, having to fix them all the time instead of just having a Massey or Case or such and getting home on time to eat and sleep.... So I thought...I thought...
Instead of wasting all that starter fluid just use a heat gun or small propane torch and heat up the intake for a minute or two and see how easy it will start. Just saying.
I agree; and i imagine that some of these guys are maybe Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, ...maybe at war with each other... or American..; all doing the exact same thing. Really, all the same as guys working on farms anywhere that it's cold in the world and an old tractor needs to get started.
При запуска дизельного мотора не следует трогать педаль газа:в нейтральном положении педали газа и низких оборотах коленвала ТНВД выдает максимальную подачу,пусковую.
Run a flex pipe from the exhaust to the intake. Smoky diesel and heat help to start quicker. Or a rag soaked with petrol around the intake breather. I had to use a torpedo heater under a canvas tarp on an old D-9 that skipped a track last year. Got stuck in the woods at -20 up here in Northern NY near the Canadian border. Then I had to do steer clutches on it a week later in the same cold, not fun. We built a tent around the machine and kept warm with the torpedo heater, good for heating the coffee though, lol.
Old worn out diesels can be hard to start in the cold. But why go through that much trouble? Get some starting ether and put antifreeze in the engine so you sleep calm in the cold nights!
Ether is alright for indirect injection diesels of old but be very careful using it on modern direct injection engines,a gas powered blow lamp around the air intake or inlet manifold will do the job easily,I’ve used one of the electric heat guns when a mains outlet was available.
Most of these involves someone getting a burning stick of some sort and waiting for it to get enough air to start cuz combustion is an oxidising reaction
Are you an idiot or are you seriously joking? Most of the tractors in this video were romanian Universal tractors, the have been around since the '50's or '60's. The tractor is also made during comunism. What do you expect,American?
Stop pumping that accelerator on that diesel it achieves absolutely nothing, floor the accelerator and keep it there to give the engine full fuel until it fires up and then leave it to fast idle until it warms up a little,a flame in the inlet manifold will almost always fire up a diesel in cold weather.

I thought that was funny too. I said to myself, it ain't a carburetor.
they don't understand the system.
He sure was giving it hell tho
It is done to get fuel into the injectors, plus it is VERY cold outside, and it is a tractor,it dosen't require a mechanic to tell you that.
What does the guy pumping the throttle on the blue tractor think he's doing ?😂😂😂

they all need to buy a Fordson Major 1952-64 one of the best starters ever, whatever the weather
