Dennis was bombed, unfortunately, he was the real surfer, athletic one, handsome, sexiest and women crazed, I mean married 5X by the time he was 30 and dead at 39, this tragic but they all had such heart; Actually at least he's sitting up I mean there were times where I've seen my own family members out like Dennis. LOL, "Be My Baby" one of my favorite songs. How nice of Mike Love to answer the 20 year question explaining togetherness :) Funny when Jerry Schilling come on, Dennis in the background swaying and resting on his back
At least we were able to see Dennis. Not that much video around with him. So beautiful to see them all together, no matter what shape. I know Bruce Johnston was was an important contribution to the band., but I was glad to see only the Origanals. What a life they all had. I know Brian will go someday soon perhaps, But he will be singing in heaven, "Wont cha come along with me"......u ah uuu.
Made me chuckle too. Could just see Dennis' arm waving around behind the managers back lol
nah . Carl the handsomest....
And Al...well
I really like hearing Mike's appreciation towards Brian's Talent! Love these guys:)
You are right that was nice to hear.
What a circus! This is why I love this band
I recently watched a documentary on the beach boys. I didn't know anything about them, I just knew some of their songs. I learned so much about them. It's so sad that they had so much beef, even though they were a family.
It's interesting how much '60s nostalgia there was already in 1980. It's like if people today were talking about what a crazy time it was back in 2005.
Paris Hilton car wash commercials and George Bush. Iraq War. 2005 was the golden year!
Actually, it's like if people kept talking about what a crazy time the 90's were, and people always talk about the 90's.
Exactly! :)
Because the ´60s was THE decade. And when you were in the ´80s you felt the ´60s like your father in music, or something like that, that the masters of music were there. Who would have thought that the ´80s was never beated the years after. I grew up in the ´80s and that is how it felt, as I told you.
American Graffiti was set in '62 and came out in the mid-70s, which is even more remarkable.
Dennis Wilson he’s a wild and crazy guy he was really cool he was also a very good drummer and he could play the piano really good and he was a very very good singer
They should’ve never let Dennis go on live TV like that.
Agreed
Rock star
Dennis is almost on Ace Frehley levels of silliness xD
Sir Dennis Didnt Really Know How Talented He Really Was His Demons Sure Did Get To Him Unfortinitly
Dennis was the designated driver that day.
😂
Poor Dennis. :( Love the Beach Boys
I don't think Dennis realized how many fans wanted him to be ok, and get his act together for them. Guess he didn't think it mattered, boy was he wrong!
Dennis had been taking Quaaludes and was drinking up until they went on stage for this interview. I'm sure he was also high on cocaine. He definitely should've been left in the dressing room. Poor Joan Lunden had no idea what she was in for. She probably spoke to Dennis first bc she probably thought he was acting.
Why would she start with strung-out Dennis with her first question ? Come on.
i don't even understand why they let Dennis walk out there they even have their manager there..i mean he isn't/wasn't a bad guy but still should have stayed backstage in this shape
Dennis didn’t have a working microphone, which the interviewer failed to pick up on.
The stupidest interviewer ever. How did she keep that gig for so long? Tone deaf and obtuse.
I can't tell, was it Dennis that said at the end..."We'd like to thank everybody?" Thanks for the upload, even with the quality factor.
Sounded like him.
Jerry Schilling brought alot to the group, as he did to Elvis, which explains Dennis' behavior.
Could you expand on that?
Doing an interview at the most ungodly hours of the morning. Poor Dennis 😂
Yea Dennis all f'd up says the greatest thing in the interview
A very substance oriented period..
Jerry should have 'managed' the band instead of saying how 'professional' they are - he should not have permitted them to broadcast with Dennis Inc that morning. Love Dennis -
Looks like Dennis had a night out on the town the night before but it does not matter. I love Dennis Wilson and wish he was still with us. Dennis was a genius in his own right and wrote and performed beautiful ballads. I feel bad that Carol is gone as well. Long Live The Original Beach Boys!!
Not one night. I read that he hadn't slept in days when this aired!
@@magictransistorradio4933 Damm
Did you mean Carl not Carol?
@@magictransistorradio4933 looked like it....
Dennis was single during this interview. He didn't marry Shawn until July 1983. They had filed for divorce I believe in November, 1 month before Dennis died.
Poor Dennis
Good ol' Dennis lol!
I wonder what was going through everyone’s minds with Dennis acting weird.
They were used to Dennis
Dennis being Dennis!...nothing to see here, move on
The Beach Boys music will always resonate with southern calif 🌊🏄♀️🏄🏄♂️
Shame on Brian, Carl, Mike and Al for letting Dennis in the studio.
More so their manager.
legends
Excellence!
All heroes, no villains.
;-)
drunk and high Dennis :(
Handsome Carl
woow... 3:50 i didn't know Niles Crane was in the Beach Boys!!
LOL. Poor Al. Shows up awake and sober for the interview and STILL doesn't get asked a single question :(
Poor Dennis. God bless him ❤😢💔
Poor Dennis 💔
Jerry Schilling was one of Elvis’s inner circle, the Memphis Mafia.
Dennis is so high..🤣
Ok--suppose these guys are part of your work crew. You're the manager/foreman. And you've got:
1) one guy who is stoned out of his mind (Dennis)
2) One guy who is basically just a sweet guy and will do anything you ask (Carl)
3) One guy who just doesn't say anything (Al)
4) A full-blown egomaniac (Mike Love)
So---what does your management training tell you about how to handle this situation?
5) Don't forget the one guy who just stares into your soul (Brian)
@@Sol_SolisI like that....'the one that stares into your soul'.❤❤❤Now That a good one for sure 🤘💯👍💪
I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of ABC News' Good Morning America's Entertainment News' Report On Interview With The Beach Boys On Friday Morning, December 5, 1980.
This is painful to watch. In fact, I can't watch all of it. Thank you to the person who uploaded this though.

lmao be my baby meme since the 80s
Watching this on Reelzs tv so sad for Dennis
I just seen it..and came to watch the interview.. dennis was in another world.. they don't.. they go to bed earlier.. the most truthful sentence he could get out...rip. Dennis..
@@legionking121 If that was embarrassing back in 1980....just imagine now....now a record label or the show would do their best to intervene with someone that SO OUT OF IT...HIS LIFE JUST GOT TRAGIC AFTER ALCOHOL& DRUGS
Shame this was filmed on a VHS potato.
In 1980 what other suggestions would you have had?
@@Erix7810😂 Right 👍
"She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye" but we get your point, yes.
This makes me like Dennis more.
I love the Beach Boys...so what if it wasn't a perfect interview..who's perfect in this world anyway..they were being themselves. Joan Lunden can get over it.
Carl lookin at Dennis like wtf dude
Man, it was pretty hard to see Dennis in this state, especially when you take the time/year into consideration. This was the beginning of the long hard fall. Not much later after this he’d end up homeless, penniless, and completely in over his head with the booze, drugs, and toxic relationship with Shawn. Seeing him like this really drives the point home. So sad.
Omg jerry he was Elvis's best friend. I never knew he managed them. Wow.
This was the day after Dennis' birthday. There was probably a lot of partying going on. Regardless, he loves Brian and never misses an opportunity to tell people that Brian is the genius behind the group. Mike Love on the other hand has done nothing but sue Brian Wilson. Disgusting.
Granted, Dennis was selling his own talent short, as he ultimately evolved into their second best songwriter. Unfortunately, after _Holland_ , not much of his work ended up on any of their albums; they went with mostly safer tunes instead, many of which were inferior to what he was doing at the time.
It's very unfortunate that drugs etc. are so very much a part of the industry.
Artists become victims of "freedom" overload and can't control themselves. One minute they are obscure and the next, they are driving Ferreri's. Then they have to start busting out hits every week and touring endlessly. Of course someone or something is going to be out there offering "help". It happens today!
Bad management of the group. Greed of corporate a-holes.
I just feel pity for Dennis.
Love ya Dennis.
Alfredo Oliva I honestly think Dennis had a learning disorder. He was elf medicating with liquor and drugs. All of the boys were abused verbally, emotionally and physically by their Father.
Yea, but the brothers all turned out to be amazingly good people in so many ways. And of course Brian still is. So their parents did some right things too. We are all blessed by their music! I’ve loved these guys for 57 years. Their music is in my blood.
@@mayemcdonald9111I think that Dennis had ADHD. Brian once said that as children, he could never keep still, always bouncing around. That makes sense to me. It also makes sense that he played the drums as well; he could bash the bejesus out of them.
Now morning shows have their hosts get drunk on wine. What's the difference, honestly?
Wasn't such a big deal back in the day. Look at some of oliver reed's interviews lol
@@Anita-ee4bsOr George Best's.
Carl ❤
“Girls, fast cars, surfin, fun in the sun, and sandy beaches. It’s what the Beach Boys were all about……along with a little Charles Manson, drugs, and mental instability. Lets go surfin, everybody! Woo hoo! Look alive, Dennis!”
Wow this makes me sad the way Dennis acting!
4:57 Dennis reminds Mike -we love one another
CARL DEAN WILSON!!!!
Dennis…so much more than just being tired
Denny
Dennis Wilson was COKED OUT here and at the time was dating Christine Mcvie of Fleetwood Mac.
Poor Denny.
This must have been the last interview Dennis Wilson did.
