Donna i have just watched the video and would love to make this for my husband. He is a great lover of cats. He has about 21 cats all were dropped here by the mother cat who is feral. My husband managed to tame the kittens and taken to the vet to be fixed so no more feral cats. He is watching the mother cat, making friends to try to get her to the vet as well. I really think he deserves a Cat Quilt. Thanks for sharing and for the free pattern. From SAfrica.
Your efforts are SO appreciated even 4 years later ! Love your simple and straight forward instructions ! I am currently watching all your videos from the beginning. Even if I’ve seen them before, I still learn things I’ve missed or didn’t mean as much because I wasn’t as experienced as I am now and getting more and more experienced thanks to you !
LOVELY!!! GREAT Tutorial and tips!! Love your work. OOOOO YES!!! gonna make cat pot holders for a friend that's a cat lover!!! and YOU just told me how!! YOU totally rock!
Love cats. And love that black one on the orange grunge that you used for demo purposes. Makes me think of the black cat we just got from a shelter a few months ago. Love this quilt. I now want one for my bed. Going hunting for suitable fabric very soon.
I love this quilt. Just got the pattern and can’t wait to start. The cat is just the perfect size and shape. I can tell by your enthusiasm that this is a quilt that you are very proud of, as well you should be. The fabric choices are just so perfect. They are bright and colorful but warm and soothing at the same time. Well done! Thank you for sharing the pattern!
I love this quilt and all the fabric and backgrounds you used. This is your happiest tutorial yet as far as I'm concerned, I had a smile on my face the whole time. Cats and fabric....a winning combination!
Donna, I love your videos! After watching this video I bought some Kaffe and started my quilt. I posted it on the Kaffe Fassett Collective FB page to get some input for sashing. Quilters around the world went crazy for your pattern! Thanks soooo much!
Have a friend who is a cat owner, that's Christmas sorted! 😄😄. You can reduce the stitch width as you approach the point of the cat ears, pivot and then increase the width again. It helps keep stitch consistency.
May I share a tip for stabilizer options, used dryer sheets ! I spray starch them with heavy starch ,press with no steam iron, then spray again to attach to back of appliqué block, press with no steam and sew! I can snip away when finished stitching and there you have it! A wonderful use for a "throw away" and save a bit of money too ! My friend also uses the dryer sheets for her embroidery machine stabilizer! Sometimes you just have to use what you have handy! Love the Cats quilt!
I just know I have to make this quilt for my mom she feeds all the cats in the neighborhood yes,the cawt lady would love this pattern its purrfect ! 😺 💗 💕
So beautiful. And thanks too for your useful, to me very useful, hints re machine appliqué. I've always done appliqué by hand and struggled with the machine! Practice makes perfect I reckon.
Hi Heather here from very cold Melbourne Australia. Through your kindness via Diane l am going to make this Kaffe Kat Quilt as. Memory Quilt for my beloved Max that sadly passed away two years ago and also as a welcome quilt for my Rescue cat Molly. Much appreciated thanks. Kind regards Heather
Added info: helps to use needle down when turning fabric for curves. Have also used the narrowing the width selection to get the point of the ear, more pointed.
This is the most amazing and beautiful work i have personally seen you make and personally think its just WOW!! Maybe i love my cat too much, but either way you are so good at what you do. Thank you. ❤️
I downloaded the Cat pattern, made a lovely cat and discovered that although I was fond of it, the cat was too big for my liking. I went back to download area and downloaded a pattern that was a bit more than half the size. Made another smaller cat and it was/is perfect. So one can make these fun cats any size you choose using all Donna's directions. Thank you Donna for such a lovely pattern.
Easiest way is to go to Jordan's web page. Click on "Free Patterns" and it is the top one, click on that and with a bit of looking you will find a download for the top of the cat and an additional download for the bottom half of the cat. I don't know what kind of printing software you have but I have a place on Foxfire that allows me to adjust the size of the pattern/pics to print. I think I printed the smaller cat on 60% size of original. I also, for fun, made a tiny one to fit on a charm square. Haven't used yet though.
I love your designs, Donna, and your choice of color combinations! In part one of this project, you mentioned you'd provide a link to a downloadable cat template. I can't draw to save my life!
Really wonderful pattern! Thank you for sharing it and your app!ique method. I'll definitely give it a try. Can you come up with a companion dog design as well?
Your videos are great! Always full of valuable information, I really want to make the Kaffe Kats, but can't find the download for the Kat. Where is it?
What style of applique is this called? Everyone else used fusible materials and all these other special stabilizers but this is so simple. You're literally using paper and glue and not spending a fortune on the specialty products and you get great results. I don't know why everyone else is over complicating this. Even people who use fusibles top stich with a zigzag anyways. I don't understand why others aren't using this method. All the other videos have all these extra steps and special instructions and you're just using glue and paper and a blanket stich. This is the method I will use for every applique I ever do. Thank you so much for showing this method. For me it makes more sense and is more practical and economical. Thank you so much. You're a very smart lady.
Have you ever used batting as your stabilizer, then you would have to worry about removing it? You are so talented to have designed such a cute pattern. xoxo from Arizona.
I was wondering why Donna did not use backing on the Kaffe Kats the way she did on the Usagi (bunny rabbit) quilt. She used fusible pellon for the bunnies.
that's adorable. I'm very inspired. I like the heart, and for us with an accuquilt, we have a die for that. again, I would use wash away applique to cut the heart die, cut fabric slightly larger, turn the edges with a glue stick and then applique with a larger stitch than you have chosen because you're working with raw edges. ever try to pink those cats? might be a nice look. good job. I would give the cats some large sequin eyes. my daughter thinks I'm crazy when I do that.
Pinking the edges and then edge stitching would be a fun way to do the applique - I have not tried it yet, but I can imagine that the results would look great!
My girlfriend gave me a pack of fat quarters for xmas. I felt bad I hadn't gotten her a gift so I said "I'll make you something with these & that will be my gift to you!" I'm thinking this cat quilt will be the purr-fect gift since we're both Cat Ladies!
I love this pattern AND Kaffe fabrics. Thanks for sharing the pattern and all that you do. I can't find the pattern in the show notes for this video or #1 though. Where do I get it? Thank you.

Yes, I used to use thin batting as a stabilizer, and still might if I was using puffier batting for the rest of the quilt.
I just love this. Where is the free quilt pattern? Can’t find it anywhere!
I made this and you made it so easy... do u have an application patern for a small dog
Sweet!!!
Мне очень понравилось, большое спасибо🤩
I was wondering why Donna did not use backing on the Kaffe Kats the way she did on the Usagi (bunny rabbit) quilt. She used fusible pellon for the bunnies.
I am working my way through your videos. So I may not have gotten to it yet, but have you done a pineapple or flamingo pattern quilt?
