    Fantastic video!!! The entire process of taking apart the projector is clearly shown. If you've never done this before watching this video and following it to the letter is the way to go!😄

    Just wanted to say thank you for such a helpful video. My lamp recently exploded leaving glass all over the inside of the projector, and there had been dust on the DMD for months so I used the excuse to completely disassemble and clean. Couldn't have done it without your video. There was a scary moment when I first turned it on with lines all over the screen but I took it apart again and made sure the DMD connector was cleaned and now all working perfectly. Thank you for breathing new life into my projector!

    • @roryjhs

      @@MarquezDaniel yes. I mostly used some soft brushes and then a manual air squirt (not sure what it's properly called). I did have some canned air that I used in a few places including on the DMD. I didn't have a mini vacuum or compressor but still managed to do it all

      @@roryjhs thanks I'm gonna give it a try. I got quite a bit of dust in mine. When I opened the top panel to get to the lamp it was quite dusty so I tried blowing some of the dust off but it got into the DMD 😭

    Thanks so much for your video Frank. I have the same projector. It was stopping after a while, saying the lamp was overheating, so I ordered that inner fan. Although it's probably not the culprit, I replaced it. My plastic stand was broken as well on the 3 screws. As it turned out, a bit of the lamp was broken, the ceramic part covering the wires, not sure if a fan failure caused it to overheat or if it overheats because broken. Cheers. Emmanuel

      I ordered the lamp, ready to go! One thing bothering me however: one of the internal speakers is broken (not sure why or how it happened but the membrane must be dead because it makes a horrible sound). I found the ref. number during disassembly (150915) however I can't find it anywhere. Let me know if you have tips. Thanks!

    So easy to get to parts in this one, plenty of space inside too. I just bought a used Panasonic PT rz370 and opened it up to clean the dust build up in the fans and was surprised how compact and well built it was. It's basically the same internally as your unrepairable rw330 laser/led video but its full HD and native 16:9.... Cheers Frank hope your doing ok buddy.

    • @FixitFrank

      I must admit, BenQ is one of my more preferred brands to work on. Very easy to get around inside of them.
      My personal belief is that technology starts out well spaced, then as it matures, it becomes more compact with less air space. Then when it fully matures, it then starts to take up less space. I recall older (2005-2010) DLPs that became very full inside with lots of fans and thermal management, and now they are mostly air with one fan.
      How do you like the RZ370? I am keeping my eyes open for a decent used laser to try out.
      Things are going pretty well over here man. I appreciate you asking. Hope you and your family are hanging in there too.

      @@FixitFrank Were both fine here in the UK, cheers Frank. Pleased with the RZ so far, good picture (8500 hours), set up is easy compared to my sanyo dwl2500 ust. The RZ has a tilt shift lens and zoom. I set it up when we want to watch a movie, it's not a permanent set up. I've only owned these two projectors but would love a 4k ust but the cost puts me off, I would rather get a good oled TV instead. These new Chinese laser projectors are getting more popular but I'm still not sure about reliability once the warranty has expired or even before it's expired. Time will tell. Take care over there. 😁👍

    Thanks Frank for your very detailed videos. It helped me a lot while disassembling my HT3050 (or W2000 in Germany) to replace the exploded lamp with a new oem one. I didn't replace the cage, because it looked good. I now realize, that at the edges of the little glass at the end of the cage are burnt in spots I guess. Do you know if the small glass sheet is replacable? because a whole new oem cage costs 5 times of the replacement oem lamp. I'm not shure if these are the reasons I have soft spots in dark scenes all over my picture. I'll try cleaning the optical assembly next, maybe this will help.

    • @FixitFrank

      Hi Cristoph, that lens is kind of hard to find. It's not impossible but you would have to likely order it from China. Might end up being 30 euros or more with shipping. If your picture is good currently and the color wheel is not erroring, I would leave the old one in. Then next time look for a third party aftermarket lamp. If you can find a reseller for apog brand lamps, they are a very good replacement. Cheaper in price but not too cheap but oem quality.

      @Christoph_Schoetschel 2 года назад +1

      @@FixitFrank thanks for the reply, i'll have a look into the aftermarket parts, but for now everything seems to work, no errors anymore in the service menu, and the spots are hardly visible. Thanks again, and all the best. :-)

      @@Christoph_Schoetschel Sure thing! I would use it as is. I think you are fine. Someday when you need to replace it again, look for the aftermarket lamp but until then, this should be fine.

    I know that this post a bit old but hopefully I get a response.
    I have the HT3050 and when I turn it on it will work perfectly fine for about 10-12 seconds, with it showing my Xbox home screen and all the colors look fine. But then the projector turns off and the "Lamp" light on the projector itself, turns red.
    Now, I don't know if this is related. But I kept getting a pop-up when starting my projector. This pop-up was just a simple reminder or warning to eventually replace my lamp. Well, I got annoyed with it and I just reset the lamp hours (without replacing the lamp) in hopes of getting rid of the pop-up for good.
    I cannot remember if I did this the day before my projector started acting this way. Or If I did that in response to the projector acting this way.
    It may not be correlated at all.
    Any ideas?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  7 месяцев назад

      Your lamp is bad. The warning is telling you that the lamp life ran out so you reset it and now its shutting down with a lamp warning. You need to replace the lamp when the warning is displayed. That is why they have it. They don't put that warning just to sell lamp. They put that up because the thermal cycles of a 2000 hour lamp are usually exhausted by then. Sure you might get some life after that but the lumens will be at least half and the quartz will be vitrified to the point to where it might explode while running and burn up your ballast and power supply.
      Once you replace the lamp, reset the timer again and you should be fine as long as no damage has occured from running the lamp too far past the rated lifespan.

    What's your opinion on "compatible" color wheels? I have a BenQ HT3050 where the color wheel doesn't start spinning and the projector shuts off quickly. With the CW from another HT3050 with broken glass segments the projector is showing a picture.
    The projector will need a new lamp too. Is it worth buying an original color wheel for a HT3050 that is quite old - if I can still get one?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Месяц назад +1

      For what it's worth, there is not really an OEM color wheel. BenQ doesn't make color wheels. They buy them from manufacturers. While BenQ may sell them, you can buy pretty much any color wheel that will fit and it should be fine. It's just a 3 pole motor with some color segments glued to it. There are some sellers that seem to have lower quality versions. One seller on eBay to stay away from is 'lampbook'. However, Voltarea.com has good parts(in the USA too) or the company I use out of china. Time electronics. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com. They take paypal and ship DHL. My general rule is buying something in the middle of the price range. Cheap tends to be cheap and expensive isn't always equalling better quality. The lamp is a bigger concern. Stay away from Amazon. all of the lamps on amazon are junk. Price matters here. I'd expect to spend around $100-150 for something worth using. www.purelandsupply.com/benq-lcd-projector-lamp_ht3050.html this is 126.40 and if you use YT50 in checkout you can get 5% off. Otherwise look at the lamp sellers listed on Projectorcentral.com. All of them are reputable and you will get a good lamp. Bottom feeders like jaspertronic say they have OEM but they have a deluded sense of what OEM means. I have seen so many projectors ruined by jasper and amazon products.
      Once you replace the wheel and the lamp, there is no reason, you shouldn't expect at least another 5 years of normal use. While older, the HT3050 is still a really nice projector. Good luck!

      @@FixitFrank Thank you for your all your recommendations regarding spare parts! I have contacted Time Electronics for the color wheel. For naked Osram lamps I have a reliable source here in Germany (≈ $70). I mentioned the lamp because I was not sure if it's worth trying to repair the projector if more than one part needs to be replaced.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Месяц назад +1

      Crystal is a wonderful sales rep. She will take very good care of you. If you have a good source for proper bare lamps, then you will be fine. The main problem is when people replace the full assembly with the poor quality version that have the wrong IR filter. On average an OEM housing should be safe to use for around 15,000 hours until its coating has degraded too far. In the US, a used HT3050 is still selling for $400-500 so putting $100-150 into the unit would be worthwhile.

    I have vertical lines on the screen after opening my HT3050 to remove dust on the dmd, - its only when a white background, is this the color wheel causing the issue?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад

      Im not 100% sure but I suspect the mainboard isnt down all the way or the metal bracket isnt seated enough to let the mainboard sit down on the DMD board connector. I am pretty confident its a connection issue but it might be somewhere else like the DMD to the dmd board for instance.
