I feel the reason ipads are not doing to well, is becuase ipad tech overall has matured, and there is little apple can do to make buyers more excited about new ipads.
No one gets excited because, let’s be honest iPadOS is just iOS with a different name. It’s too limiting. They need to do something to get it away from iOS
Ipad OS is so limited. Even with mouse support; I can get a similar task done on OSX in a fraction of the time. Even cutting and pasting something simple from one program to another. It’s needlessly frustrating. IPad does some stuff incredibly well; but it definitely seems like the OS has hit a development wall of sorts.
Most people by ipads to do "ipad things", like web browsing or playing some games. besides adding 120hz to the ipad air, there isnt much else apple can do to give users a better experience for that sort of tasks. And for some reason apple choses not to improve ipad OS for users looking to do proffeshional work. The sky-high price of the 13" pro also puts it in a akward spot
Nah, I'm still going to buy the 1TB version, not because I need that much storage, but because it supports significantly more layers in Procreate, which I use for my work.

Can you do a power input test for the iPad Pro M4? I’d like to see how fast this iPad can charge and how big of a (n understatement) lie the power draw is - for example, the iPhone was advertised as 20w charging but the pro max can actually charge at 30 watts, and the iPad at 35 watts for the 11 inch and 41 watts for the 13 inch.
The 16GB ram will be benefit when it run on device LLMs later on, Apple may try to fit in a small size LLM in next iPadOS update, the extra ram will help gives more leg room for other application running seamlessly. Hence that's why only 1TB + model will get 16GB or ram for holding LLM model locally.
This comment aged poorly, there’s nothing about apple intelligence that needs 16gb of RAM, in fact the only real feature the IPad will have is a damn calculator 😂
I really appreciate this video after I purchased my 256 GB model. I had a lot of mixed feelings for the first day and now I’ve had it for six days and I watch your video and I feel so much better saving that $600
Great review Max Tech. Try pushing the IPad, multi tasking with the extra screen. Live streaming, trading reading charts, gaming etc. That way we can see if the Ram makes a difference.
Really appreciate video I was planning to buy the more expensive one with more ram but after seeing this video it’s not worth it just going with the regular one really help on deciding 👍🏼
Same here. Happy with my baseline model. I’m upset at Apple for withholding an extra performance core to the terabytes tiers but I guess it’s not a big deal.
Results Are All The Same Due To iPad OS! Doesn’t matter if you have a 2017 10.5 iPad Pro or the 2018 iPad Pro. It All Runs The Same Due To iPad OS Optimizing The System / Device To Run Smoothly!
@MaxtechOfficial - Firstly love your videos. I have a suggestion to test the ipad pro. Can you try using it like a laptop with stage manager enabled and multitask as in, be on a zoom call and in the background export some images. That might show difference in RAM
Too late, I already bought the 1 TB version. I did it because of apps like Procreate. More RAM equals higher resolution with more layers. But I guess none of my projects will ever reach the threshold.
Maybe if we pray hard enough, ipadOS 18 will have a more mac like experience and allow the higher specs on the more expensive models to be taken advantage of.. haha who am I kidding.
@@gosman949 I ordered Paperlike. PS: Why would you hope for such a thing? Is it because you hope that "idiots" like me need to be punished for giving money to Apple? Apps like Nomad Sculpt, ProCreate and ClipStudio Paint allone are worth the investment in an iPad with good specs.
great video just what i was looking for - I'm also curious about the relative battery life... suspect the 9-core will perform better with lower power consumption?
Apple stated last gen extra Ram is not for extra performance but for handling the SSD/ Storage when the IPAD is Fully loaded/ Storage is maxed out at full capacity. You will definitely not see a difference comparing base model and 1 tb without the storage not being maxed out. You have to do real testing bro, I would thought you of all people would have known that, by now.
I’m on base 256GB. I knew what i was buying, and ultimately don’t need the crazy performance. What i did need was the Pencil Pro and screen tech. I wanted the Face ID, four speakers and metal Magic Keyboard. Fly’s through everything I need it to
@MaxTechOfficial Please, could you verify if those 16 GB RAM M4 iPads will be improved in the future with a newer version of the iPadOS operating system as well as the apps? And will we see a bigger difference in overall performance? Thank you.
Could you do a ram comparison with multiple Apps at once similar to how you have done it with the Mac? Since with stage manager you can have 4 Apps running at the same time so could have the browser open with different tabs like your gmail, some articles and a RUclips Video playing in the background and then have two Video or Photo editing apps exporting or benchmark apps running at the same time. It would also be interesting to compare it directly to a similar spec Mac with the same apps open.
They did one with the M1, 3 years ago, and apparently decided it’s not worth bothering revisiting it🤣. The tests were also half-serious, they didn’t even use apps that would be known to real iPad users that are RAM hungry for the RAM test, and Genshin left in the starting menu🤣🤣🤣. Seriously speaking, I saw a huge difference in multitasking from 8gb M1 to 16gb M4. Some real RAM eaters - Safari tabs, Google Earth + Apple Maps photogrammetry, 3D modeling with complex models, multiple chat apps, honkai star rail, no apps get closed UNLIKE the M1. Not a direct M4 8vs16gb but unless M1 somehow had less effective ram it shouldn’t matter.
Hello !! I am planning to buy the ipad pro m4 for digital art , gaming , editing , netflix etc etc . But I am confused whether i should get the 8gb ram 512 gb version or the 16gb ram 1tb version . I am not going to do any heavy office work or any production work . Which one should I get ?
Good question bud, if I can afford it I always buy the highest spec even if I don't need it , that way i`m hoping to be future proofed to a degree , and hopefully the extra money spent allows the device to be useful for years to come . I hate buying new tech every one or two years , I like to maximise my use of it until the wheels fall off ... so to speak 😉.
Until the apps are optimized, the better performance is wasted. The bigger problem is that most app developers only target the lower spec. So, my $2k iPad pro is only as good as $399 iPad. It's all in software, but they all share the same OS and same apps.
I would love to see you guys do a showdown between the M4 iPad Pro and the M1 MacBook Air (both fan-less and could possibly do an M1, M2, M3 MB Air vs M4 iPad Pro showdown) to see just how far Apple has come with this latest iteration of M series chips (even in an iPad form factor).
512 seems to be the sweet spot :) I made a good choice. I would like to see how many apps you can keep open on either model before they have to refresh
Thanks! This is the video I’ve been waiting for. I have an M2 11” 256GB, but unfortunately I recently cracked the screen and didn’t have AppleCare. So far, it still works fine but I’m afraid of travelling with it and will pass it on in my family. I use my iPad for the regular stuff and use it for primarily for music creation and video editing. With the M2 I have not found that I’ve run up against any cpu issues, so I imagine that the M4 will be the same and better.
Great to see Pro App benchmarking for the iPads - please keep extending this. Maybe track loading FCP & Logic or Octane X too? Unsure if Photoshop has a scene/benchmark/macro which can be run. Looks like your Lr test needs more images (500?) Could the graphs include Macs for comparison? FYI Solar Bay is matching performance of an M1 Max (maybe good to see it in a chart as the 3DMark site excludes Apple products)

I hope you had some delay between updating and running these benchmarks. It’s known that background processes can eat into performance for a period of time after updating
For students, the Ipad has always been a no-brainer if you take advantage of the apple pencil. Lack of software compatibility has always forced those same students to buy a laptop, sometimes even windows depending on the application. The Ipad by far is one of Apple’s best products, it is getting close to the device that can do it all. Hopefully in the future they can bring themselves to let us use more applications to take advantage of the extra performance and efficiency
The 256GB model is already extremely expensive so there was no way I could justify an additional $600. Anyway, the base level storage is already more than I need. Overall I do feel super happy with my purchase and it seems like a big upgrade to me. Especially the magic keyboard seems way nicer and I'm so happy about the camera location change.
I was waiting for your video to come up. I now have decided which model to pick. You guys are amazing at comparing these two new iPad models thoroughly. I see no other RUclipsrs have tested the new iPad thoroughly. Keep it up!
2 thoughts: 1: This partially explains why they didn't mention 9 core vs 10 core at all during the keynote. 2: It will be interesting to see if there is a bigger difference at the end of the year with iPadOS 18 and time for app developers design apps that can take advantage.

it's the 8gb vs 16gb ram that matters, 16gb would be so much better future proof. But yeah, definitely not worth that extra 600 bucks
@@UKPtrkwishful thinking 😂
I feel the reason ipads are not doing to well, is becuase ipad tech overall has matured, and there is little apple can do to make buyers more excited about new ipads.
Increasing base prices , limited backward compatibility and artificially limiting air to 60hz doesnt help.
It sells way more than the Mac though… it sells a lot more than ppl realize
I’m surprised there wasn’t a DaVinci comparison or export times for video editing
I'm sure there will be later
Take 5 seconds longer, is that worth it?
Nah, I'm still going to buy the 1TB version, not because I need that much storage, but because it supports significantly more layers in Procreate, which I use for my work.
Exactly why I got a 1tb.
Same
What is the difference between the 512MB and 1TB ? Can you tell me the numbers of layers you can do on both ?
@@Meven2001 The iPad Pro with 1TB of storage has 16GB of RAM, while the 512GB version only has 8GB of RAM. For comparison, the iPad Pro 12.9 64GB (2nd generation) can open 55 layers in Procreate at 3000x3000px, 300 DPI. The iPad Pro 13 with 256GB and 512GB can open 112 layers, and the iPad Pro 13 with 1TB can open 204 layers, almost double the number of layers compared to the 256GB and 512GB versions.
@@acerolahwq2649 I use my iPad for work and make complex, Portraits and landscape work as well as architectural work / design. I got the Pencil pro and the 256Gb Model of the 13 Inch Pro.
Its been perfectly fine, more than perfect in fact. Most of my drawings dont exceed 25 layer, if theyre super detailed I might hit the 35 mark.
I see no reason as to why id ever need more than 112 layers on any given project.
The doubled ram is NOT allocated for program use. It’s strictly for data handling for the larger storage.
Apple has been planning this for over 11 years and its so satisfying to see all of this come together
We are gonna need a 11 vs 13 Pro now 👌🏻
Thanks for this video. That helps alot!
Great review! I like your tests that other reviews have not covered to show us the 9c vs 10c ipad differences.
PLEASE do a video comparing performance in some more pro apps like Final Cut, Logic, and Resolve
Better title: "is it worth spending 600$ for youtube to open 3ms quicker"
Correction, black cable only comes with higher end 10 core model not based on colours
Really appreciate video I was planning to buy the more expensive one with more ram but after seeing this video it’s not worth it just going with the regular one really help on deciding 👍🏼
Extremely helpful video. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. Puts my mind at ease.
It All Runs The Same Due To iPad OS Optimizing The System / Device To Run Smoothly!
ive been waiting for this video for such a long time, I am so excited
Thanks guys. Was hoping to see a review like this
You saved me a ton of money, I love you man
Will be interesting to see if the 512Gb models that could have dual NAND chips narrows that difference between the 9 & 10 core models yet further.
Thank you! So let’s go for the 256gb model 🎉
Thanks for making my decision a whole lot easier! Looks like the 11inch 512gb model it is then 🙌🏽
The only question I have about the synthetic tests is if they've been designed to take advantage of the additional RAM in the 16GB model?
Man this is the video i have been looking for since the new ipad came out
@MaxtechOfficial - Firstly love your videos.
But I guess none of my projects will ever reach the threshold.
and I hope you got the texture glass!
Maybe if we pray hard enough, ipadOS 18 will have a more mac like experience and allow the higher specs on the more expensive models to be taken advantage of.. haha who am I kidding.
Exactly why Im going with 1TB too
@@gosman949 I ordered Paperlike.
PS: Why would you hope for such a thing? Is it because you hope that "idiots" like me need to be punished for giving money to Apple? Apps like Nomad Sculpt, ProCreate and ClipStudio Paint allone are worth the investment in an iPad with good specs.
@@JustKeepFlying I really hope for some iPad surprises presented at the June event.
Wonder if the 512GB model would have single NAND as well?
I’d like to know too. I suspect it’ll have two chips and maybe have comparable SSD performance to the 1TB model. Would really like to know.
Same, someone review the 512 model as well!
Okay, well didn't expect that!
Thank you for saving some people some money!
great video just what i was looking for - I'm also curious about the relative battery life... suspect the 9-core will perform better with lower power consumption?
Wow.. thanks for all that testing. You literally destroyed the logic of getting a 1TB 10-core iPad Pro right there.
Does 512 have 2 NAND flashes and higher memory speed
Yes
@@stevebarnes3108 thank you
@@stevebarnes3108 thank you
I’m on base 256GB.
@@illien_3915 That sounds good. (Also a Honkai: Star Rail player here)
It will be interesting to see a fresh comparison once iPadOS 18 is here. I’m guessing it will be fully optimised for the extras on the 1T/2T.
@@mikldude9376 yep . Same here
Until the apps are optimized, the better performance is wasted. The bigger problem is that most app developers only target the lower spec. So, my $2k iPad pro is only as good as $399 iPad. It's all in software, but they all share the same OS and same apps.
Did you use the 11 or 13 inch versions in this video? Please also do a comparison of GPU performance between the 11 and 13 inch versions
3:14 9 vs 10 cores and you get 8% difference. Why would you expect anything different?
The bezels should be a bit thinner.
Thanks for the video. I was hoping you would do one on this topic.
Plz same test after WWDC updates on AAA games, DR, FCP, Procreate and Logic with 10 apps running in the background!
Please redo this same test with iPadOS 18!!!!!!!!!
This is exactly the video I’ve been wanting to see! Is the 1gb version worth the upgrade? Thanks, you just saved me $600.
What else besides benchmarking is the benefit of having more performance in the iPads?
Is there a storage read/write speed difference between 256GB and 512GB?
Thank you verymuch❤❤
Nicely done! Thank you for doing this video.
Here's another set of Jazz Disk Bench 7.0.2 Pro data-points.
Device: iPad Pro (model iPad16,5) 13-inch (May 2024) 512GB wi-fi
Sequential read: 2876 MB/s
Sequential write: 2485 MB/s
Random (4K) read: 12911 iops, 50 MB/s
Random (4K) write: 9487 iops, 37 MB/s
Latency read 0.07129 ms
Latency write 0.04688 ms
I hope you had some delay between updating and running these benchmarks. It’s known that background processes can eat into performance for a period of time after updating
Will the software update allow iPadOS to utilise the extra core more efficiently?
Keep it up!
you will not get the texture screen. So sorry!
What about gaming performance? Do games benefit at all?
Thanks for the test. I'm getting the baseline 13inch.
Interesting to see. Wonder if you could do a Logic Pro max-out test on them both to see if the RAM makes much difference on that.
2 thoughts: 1: This partially explains why they didn't mention 9 core vs 10 core at all during the keynote. 2: It will be interesting to see if there is a bigger difference at the end of the year with iPadOS 18 and time for app developers design apps that can take advantage.
