Dude I've owned the 333XL infinium since 2016 and I can tell you its a bad ass beast complimented and asked about by a few famous guitarsist from bands I've played shows with pre covid. Like metal church who we're close with, same with Jack Russell's great white, George lynch's mob to name a few. I've gotten a lot of compliments on tone. Me I love it ! ''The infinitum is just their way of saying "we fixed the clips''. Nah, it's just your way of talking about things that your feeble mind is unable to understand. Just tell any amp tech what you say, they'll laugh in your face. Nothing personal, but I own several Bugera amps and I do know exactly what the Infinium does. You won't find this stuff on amps costing 6 times more, Hughes and Kettner puts a basic version of the Infinium on their more expensive amps, and it can't do half of what the Infinium does. It's ok to not understand stuff, but not ok to go around talking as if you understood it. Peace...

Bugera amps are fine. I bought a 1990 in 2010 and aside from coming from the factory biased extremely hot, I never had any issues with it. I still play it from time to time. Despite being a clone of the JCM 900, I would argue that this is actually a better amp because it has more gain and I can gig with it and never have to worry about it being stolen because nobody wants a Bugera.
By the way, love the classic NES Final Fantasy sound effects. Been loving that game since it first released.

The microphonics is from the tubes.I have 3 Bugera's and I always change the stock tubes .Not the best quality. I run a BBE sonic maximizer in the effects loop of my Bugera's just to beef up the low end. Pretty decent amps.

The 333xl is better suited to Peavey JSX/XXX cabs in my experience of owning one for many years. I've always found that I would have to change out the stock pre-amp tubes almost all the time because of their microphonic nature. The age old controversy of them catching on fire was in the older, pre-Infinium models but has been resolved in the Infinium models. I think they're great amps and not just for the affordability.

I bought one. Amazing tone, when you change the tubes! Terrible amps, terrible service, returned for not being fixed under warranty (we are allowed here to simply return if the repair under warranty excedes 30 days) and, a couple of years latter THE AMP STILL HADN'T BEEN TAKEN TO REPAIR FROM THE DEALER THAT SOLD IT TO ME BY THE BRAND, so the dealer ended up giving me my money back and stuck with an amp that had a recognized factory deffect (the amp got stuck in the clean channel when hot). With that money I bought a used Marshall that is still going strong with 0 issues and a ton of mods made! Best descision of my life

It looks like a Matchless DC-30, but it plays & sounds closer to a Vox AC-30(with a different preamp control). Great review! Just a advise: the "microphonic" buttom might be because ot the tubes. When they are poorly fitted they do that sound. I believe that what caused this may have been the transport. If I'm right, just open the amp and fit the valves better.

  • @kentGrey

Thank you for providing the historic reference, this answered more for me than the actual review (which was fine). I'm not a musician but wanted a reasonably priced quality tube amp. Went in to heavy research mode for about a month and based on personal criteria began focusing on the bugera t50 infinium. I ran across a number of "reviews" that came to similar conclusions as yours. They seemed to begrudgingly acknowledge the pros while grasping for cons. One reviewer touched on about 7 aspects of the amp, begrudgingly acknowledged 5 positives, pointed out that the 2 negatives would likely be mute points given everyone's taste for pedals, acknowledge the low price point and still gave a "would not recommend". I even commented asking "If it's budget priced and has all going for it that you said, what did I miss," Reply: "I just don't like it."
Since most of the reviews were positive, I made the purchase. I am VERY HAPPY with mine! I will likely never be able to push this amp anywhere near it's limits. But knowing some musicians that could push this amp, I would not be ashamed to pull it out if they wanted to play. It's not about the musicians being "snooty", practiced musicians can "feel" the poor action on a keyboard, they can hear subtle differences, etc.
You're video was the only one that gave some of the company's back story. I now believe that a lot of the negativity surrounding their produces is because of how their management is perceived and not due to something being lacking in their engineering.

I think a positive way to think of these type of lucky-for-cheap find amps, is getting creative in using them in different parts, for layering/stacking etc. I use a pine box 1x12 I had built on a lazy Saturday, breaking every rule of cab making, and it's found it's way onto multiple tracks for cleaning picking parts. Nasally sounding. It's about 3khz to 4khz, Most Eningeers call it the "Honky" zone. Most amps don't have any immediate means to pull it back. An Eq pedal, be it Parametirc or Semi-Parametric will help find it and shape it to your ears at the source. Getting it right at the Source is always the ultimate goal!

Exceptionally great offerings on the market form a price point perspective. Though I do agree with many that they’d benefit from having a resonance dial.
As for the microphonic issue. I’ve used a 333XL Infinium in the past and didn’t notice such a problem. It could be down to the tubes needing to be replaced as a couple of my other tube amps developed a similar issue with the tubes eventually failing within a few months. On that note, I understand that biasing isn’t needed with these Bugera amps and the Infinium versions improve upon reliability issues while also extending tube lifespan.

I owned this amp for 8 years. Sold it 2 years ago. I regret it. I had the 4-12 cab too. Also sounded good. Supposedly the 333 is a copy of the XXX and the 333XL is a copy of the XXX2 which I also think is the JSX amp. These amp get a bad name because the very first ones has a tube power connector the was clipped onto the board and it would vibrate and then eventually burn. People would then simply solder the wires to the pins on the board. I opened mine to find out they had remedied that by adding some glue to the connector. I never had a problem with mine. I didn't gig out with it but I used a Marshal power brake attenuator so I did push it a little bit. I also has the 6262 which sounded just like a 5150, 6505 clone. The clean was a lot brighter on the 6262 but I liked the sound of the 333XL more as I play heavy rock and not metal.

As an actual owner of a Bugera 1960 head (which is a Marshall 1959 SLP clone) I can verify several things; Bugera amps are well built. They sound great. They are reliable. I have been recording with mine constantly for the last year through a 2x12 and a Two Notes Captor X. Absolutely no issues with the amp. The 6262 and 333XL are both on my wish list. The infinium tube life tech makes it a no brainer, no more $350 for an amp tech every time a tube goes out.

    I had the 333 combo
    For $300, you get a 3 channel 5150/6505 clone.
Not perfect, but it would scream.
It had the fault most of the amps had.
A high voltage jumper, coming off the power supply board, to the tube board, was connected with a cheap plastic housing.
The fitting would get hot, move around on the pin, and arc.
That potentially could kill the entire amp, depending on how far thru the circuit it got.
Mine just scorched the board, and I put in a less cheap part in.
    Later I bought a Tri-Rec, for $400.
Ran it thru an oversized Mesa 4x12.
This is the closest Boogie Rectifier clone I have ever heard, at any price.
I'm an older dude, grew up playing almost exclusively Boogies from 1988 on.
I say with no hesitation, you cannot find a 100+ watt tube head that could even compete with the brutal tone this thing put out, for $400.
Then one day I turned it on, flipped the standby switch and-
Nothing. I bypassed the switch and-
    Still nothing.
It has sat in my gear closet underneath many other amps I have blown up, or just got sick of for about 8 years now.
    BTW, it's for sale!!!
    Cheap!!!

The fire situation was kind of 2 pronged. There was an issue with a type of clip that they used in the beginning, which they fixed quite early on. There was also a lot of issues with people who had never owned a genuine tube amp before and they did stupid things with it. I've owned this head for the better end of 7 years now and I've never experienced any issues with it as far as problems go. This amp is supposed to be somewhere between a JS1 and a XXX from Peavey. I've been able to get some really great tones out of it. Everything from wicked brutal distortion and some really great cleans and blues crunches. I've since moved on to a Mesa Mark V so I now use the Bugera as a back up but this has been a great amp for the price point if you want a genuine amp. I know many people opt for Amp sims nowadays and who can blame them. But as far as quality goes, after the initial issues which Bugera fixed, I haven't heard of anything fire related happening in years. (And I mean many years at that.)

I removed the crap plastic molex connectors from the power transformer to the preamp board so I made it "fire safe" lol... in the preamp, I upped a few resistor values, close to Peavey Triple XXX values... then I changed the resistor in relation to the "XL" switches... it is MUCH more noticeable with the mod... not engaged, the lead channel reminds me of modded Marshall, with the "XL" engaged, it is very MESA like. thick, but not muddy. The initial crunch of the pick attack is much more prominent. Active pickups dont need a boost to have plenty of oomph... lastly, I removed the fixed "resonance" resistor and installed a Resonance pot... I have a buddy with a Bugera V22 combo. Great amp. I actually quite like it. Apparently the issues with Bugera amps catching fire predates the infinium technology branding, and is probably what lead to them creating the smart tube health tech to begin with. I'm also pretty sure you're right about the user error bit, and they likely created infinium to play it safe from a PR perspective.

  • @countzero5150

I have two pre infinium 6260s. I like them, they're a hell of an amp for the money. One is stock and has been solid. The other had some issues and I modded it while it was torn apart. One of the pins on a power tube had to be isolated because the board had gone conductive and was causing that tube to runaway bias and red plate (I have a marshall jvm 210 that also had the same problem and fix) and it also had some broken solder joints that needed touched up. Construction is pretty much on par with other amps built in China.
One thing I've noticed across multiple bugeras is that you absolutely do NOT want to bias your tubes using the measurements in the bugera manual. For some reason bugera has people running their amps so hot it's no wonder some caught on fire. We're talking 90% dissipation and higher.

I bought a 6262 back in like 2011, somewhere around there, brand new. Mine was one of the affected ones, which turned out to simply be bad quality molex connector pins (inferior quality metals in the pins that provided too much resistance, thus melting the molex connectors). I addressed this issue myself by removing the connectors and soldering the wires directly to the board. This fixed the problem. Funny story, when I got out of the band scene, I sold all my gear, including the amp. I had since bought a TriRec and at the time, didn't know how to dial it in so I thought it was crap (once I figured it out, it's a fantastic amp). But that was after I had found and bought another 6262 that was for sale locally on ebay from a pawn shop about 45 mins away. I got to looking at it and thought "is this my old amp??" after noticing a tear in the tolex in a specific spot. Then I saw the tubes, knowing those were also the same I had replaced...I opened it up and saw the repair I did, and finally confirmed it with the serial number that I originally registered with the company after I bought it. It had somehow come back home, albeit in far worse shape than when I had it, but nonetheless, the same amp.
They're great amps that sound fantastic. I'll never forget, we were playing a show out of state and this other band played before us, one of the guitarists was playing a Mesa half stack, nothing but big $ equipment. I was playing through an Avatar 4x12 with G12T-75's and V30's, like the Bogner Uberkab. I also had a couple of pedals for tone shaping, and I biased the amp myself slightly hot when I replaced all the tubes. The Mesa guy was blown away by my sound and made a point in telling me how much he loved my tone.
As for the 333XL, my lead guitarist played one and it was one I sampled in the store side-by-side to the 6262 and I just could _not_ get a sound I liked out of it. Even the store owner (small independent shop) said he didn't really like them and hadn't been able to get a good sound out of them either. But my lead guitarist seemed to like it for some reason.

I have an Infinium 333XL and always liked the way it sounds. It takes pedals very well. As far as your question of it being a good bang for the buck or a dumpster fire I think that just depends on the luck of the draw. Mine worked great for about 2 years the XL switches basically shattered when pushing them in. I believe the plastic becomes very brittle after time because this amp generates a lot of heat. Then when engaging the effects loop the tubes started making an extremely loud clicking noise. Replaced the tubes no difference, sounds like a machine gun. I don't feel the amp is worth sending in to repair.

Last gig I played my drummer said "my earplugs feel useless with this thing" which is what I like to hear. I almost always play it with volume on 7 and have had absolutely no issues thus far.
I hope the bad rep remains, it keeps the prices reasonable

I owned like 40/50 amps in past years always buying and trading in used market. Had all. Oranges, Marshalls Fenders.. all. And I'm currently sold to Bugera Infiniums now. I own a T50 Infinium. Love the cage style lunchbox design cause of portability. 50 watts in only 10kg. Di out, cab sim, infinium auto bias and monitoring life health. class A/AB switch, reverb, tone cut, phat switch, 2 channels footswitchable, no bias adjustment, no pair matching, acepts el34 or 6l6. If a tube fails it shows wich one and you can replace just that one. Dont need to change the pair. All of that for a fair price... come on!. Its a great of a deal. Using for many months and always sounds as new with no issues. Cuts very well in a band. Want to talk about unreliable amps? Marshalls and Blackstars. They are becoming more and more shitty quality every serie. Peavey and Laney are solid construtions and tone. Very reliable. Fenders are ok too. But i'm very disappointed with Marshall. Unless you buy a high end model, chance are that they will disappoint you

My guess with that frequency you’re not digging is since you barely touching it at all makes it ping with the microphonic aspect, the vibrations from the cab when you’re playing are getting picked up too.

Will use a Plumes OD (The green one) with active pickup guitars to compensate for the extra compression and already tight low end. I used to own a Bugera 333XL 212 combo before it was stolen from me. Aside from the stock speakers being mud, it was exactly the amp i wanted...until it broke. The newer Infinium amps are fine, but the amps made before the Infinium line came out had problems (not as major as rumored, but problems) and mine was no exception with something in the power section popping and letting out the magic smoke. I remember when i bought it, i'd posted on the old Rob Chapman forum that i was looking for something "American high gain" sounding for cheap and one of the mods pointed me to the 333XL-212 which was only $350 at the time. I got my $350 out of it and then some, and deeply wish that A: I knew how to maintain tube amps so it wouldn't have broken, and B: that it wasn't stolen before i could get it fixed
The JSX and XXX are almost identical, and Bugera made clones of both. The 333 is a clone of the XXX and the 333XL was a clone of the JSX (The Bugera having the XL buttons and the Peavey having FAT switches, both being low mid boosts)

I owned one of the models that was supposed to blow up but it never blew up. Apparently playing guitar in your bedroom from 1:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. at incredibly low volumes is not very demanding on an amp. It probably did catch fire with the next owner though. He used it for practice in a non-air conditioned Barn / practice space.

  • @starrcitizenalpha7847
    @starrcitizenalpha7847 2 года назад

Hi. I've owned one of these (212 combo version) since they first appeared. The only issue I have experienced is the status light for the standby switch stopped working in the first month, this had no effect on the operation of the amp. The power and standby lights on my amp are blue and not red...meh.
I recently changed the preamp valves (12 mths ago). The replacement valves were apparently a higher gain valve. In a practical sense this means that using the high gain input of the clean channel, along with HB pickups, resulted in an early AC/DC tone (nice). This was not the case with the OEM valves. Unfortunately, this also meant that lower gain crunch tones are a bit harder to achieve with finessing the gain knob.
I also dialed back the PRESENCE knob-40%.
I've found the clean channel to be a bit of a gem. I play a Godin Solidac (HSH) and find that I get a remarkably wide range of tones from the channel. I find the channel has a warm "woody", high percussive "knock" to it, if that makes sense. The BASS and TREBLE knobs on the CLEAN channel are very reactive but I find the MID control very subtle, so much so that sometimes I wonder if it is actually working (it does). Makes a good pedal platform.
The amp is LOUD (120w). I also have a Boss Katana 100w head and there is NO comparison in tone nor volume, but at least my crusty old man's back doesn't squeal like a little bitch at the thought of lugging it. 🤣
Overall I'm happy with the amp and my decision to buy. I've recorded with it, both mic'd and using IRs, and it sounds great (to my ears). For context I spent just over 20 years playing professionally (Aussie Pub rock/metal bands averaged 3 to 4 gigs a week) and owned Marshalls (valvestate 212 and 2 JCM 800 heads), Fender (Solid state?), MesaBoogie (Cal50+), Engl (Screamer50), Laney (AOR? 100w valve) and Peavey (Bandit Special 120).
Great that we live at a time when you can buy a half way decent valve amp without the need to sell a kidney or two.

I also had a 1990 Infinium that I sold almost 10 years ago, and it was a good amp but not particularly my style.
