My son's band toured with Offspring & DKM In 2009. I told him this was my favorite song. Never dreamed that in less than 3yrs he'd be gone and this would be the song that comes closest to how I feel EVERY DAY. RIP Kris

well, I have no words, there are too many things in that song, it means something for Dexter and The Offspring, and, I think, for everyone, even if some one didn´t like this version, it isn´t the melody at all, it´s about the lyrics and the feeling at singing. For me, this is a very beautiful version, I´ll always love The Offspring and Bryan Dexter Holland :) .lll.

I liked this song from the first time I heard it when the album came out. I was in 4th grade at the time. I lost my best friend in a hiking accident when I was 16, and this song gave a much deeper meaning, and every year on his death, I play this song at his grave site. Sounds weird, but it''s just what I do.
Funny thing is, through his death, I found the girl who years later would marry me, so this song has an interesting happy/sad feeling to it. This version takes it to an even different level.

There seriously is not a bad version of this song that I've found anywhere. You know you've created something amazing when there isnt any way to play it that doesnt rouse intense emotions, and you can youtube people in like 40 different countries covering it. No matter what else they've done or will do (which has been pure amazingness since 1989), this song is Dexter's legend.
Also... for the love of of all that is holy, you have have to put a piano/band coming in as the song crescendos version of this song on an album asap.
Sometimes you have to listen to this song more than once, because it didn't hurt enough the first 5 times.
Lost someone I loved very recently. We sang (for fun) together when no one else was around (she refused to sing in front of anyone except me, after much coercion). Went to this version immediately. Now that I’ve heard the 2021 version, I’m going to try to mix them together. Miss you, my Nani. It’ll be for you, but I need this for me, too. I reached to the sky when I begged the big guy to let you stay even if it meant losing you as my better half. As He gave us those additional 6 months a year later, I’m grateful we had that time together before the disease took you. The pain and struggle for you is done- I have to look at it this way to accept it.

this is brilliant. absolutely amazing. the subtleties in the background instruments emphasize the raw emotions of the lyrics. Emily's voice is stunningly rich and full. I could listen to this on repeat forever.

This was so amazing. After loving this band for almost 14 years, they never fail to impress me. This version almost made me cry at how beautiful it is.
I have never heard this version of "Gone Away" before and I don't really follow The Offspring much anymore, but my teenage daughter loves them. I stumbled on this video by accident while looking up Dead Sara. My daughter told me the story behind the song after she saw I was crying after watching this video. Just last night I was telling my daughter about something that happened to me recently that made me feel like my mother-in-law who passed years ago had visited me when I needed someone. I know some people don't believe in these things, but it happens. This is a beautiful video & song and it's odd I discovered it when I did.
I've been a fan ever since I first heard them. However, I only encountered this version a few days ago, and when I first heard it, it brought me to tears it was powerful and goosebumps everywhere.. 9/18/15 I lost my best friend Matt to heroin, and 9/5/16 I lost another good friend of mine to the same thing. The world has grown cold since you both went away... You can judge them for doing it, but we all make mistakes... I will never forget you Matt and Mainey rest in peace. I'll see you both again someday.

Literally the most underated, misunderstood song of all time. Im 43 years old and always liked this song since it came out but only recently has this song actually impacted me emotionally and when it hit me, it all made sense for me. My mom died Jan 17th, 2015. She was 78 and lived a good long life but losing a parent is always hard. I have her ashes so she is always with me. However, how do you go on??? Cherish the memories and hold the good times tight is the only way.

Tomorrow night will be 2 years since one of my closest friends died. This hauntingly beautiful song of loss will always have special meaning and brings me to tears. We both loved The Offspring, and he first introduced me to the music of Dead Sara in 2012. So this beautiful ballad version with Emily joining them always makes me think both sadly and happily of my friend. I'm 53 and still listen to both bands!
