Chris has driven so many cars that it seems this is just another day at the job for him. he's like super chill the whole time as if he's going to work in a Camry. prime example that material things don't bring happiness
One of my favourite things about you is your enthusiasm. This video had none of it. That car is pretty spectacular and that didn't come across at all. Smug Bastard or not, what I got the most out of this is that you've gotten to the point in your career that a car like this is now humdrum. Crumbs.
+Adam Hilliker I found it a nice contrast; now his enthusiasm seems even more enthusiastic. Really though, he's reviewed the coupe version, so I can't blame him for being mellow about something familiar.
I see your point and I actually do agree. But just to play devil's advocate, wouldn't it seem ingenuine if he was overly excited every time? Maybe he's just getting older and calmer. Or maybe this new video guy wasn't able to do the cool shots and edit it together as his normal guy does.
Zero 0 I know, I said good for you as I acknowledged that you have an overall differing opinion than mine. I was in no way attempting to insult you or your opinion. Way to go blowing things out of proportion.
I can't put my finger on it, whether it's the colour, the convertible roof or something else, but in that last shot in the end, this car really doesn't give me that fizz in my stomach like the last few generations have. The 458 and 458 speciale looked incredible, the 430 scud looked so raw and purposeful, they both looked almost bespoke and made with no compromise. This 488 just looks made to a cost for some reason, it looks so soft compared to earlier models and I have no idea why. It's almost like a super high end VW golf or something. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn this car down, but I just don't have the urge to sit there and look at this car and all it's details like I do with other cars.
Is it me or have Ferrari turned the stunning car that was the 458 Italia, into a car that now looks like the last gen Gallardo? Especially from the front and the awkward rear 3/4 shot near the beginning is not great. Can we go back to the sixties please? Surely a carbon fibre re imagining of the beautifully curvy exotica would have people clawing at dealerships to buy? ... Just a thought!
+Patrick Tomlinson It's been a while since they made beautiful cars. Cool, yes, but not beautiful. Can't think of one from the past couple of decades to be honest.
yep! Chris and Coulthard on Top Gear UK....they got it right! they got it right!...this is going to be a good run for the show! congratulations Chris and well deserved!
I'm glad Chris brought up the lack of a carbon tub in the Ferrari. It's antiquated compared to McLaren's clean slate. At least we know the infamous Ferrari dictators haven't fully smothered all journalists yet.
+Wishwader Really? The 650 has the exact same obsolete chassis as MP4-12C. Also, making a decent space-frame chassis requires incredible level of engineering expertise. Sorry for bursting your bubbles, but remember how 458 obliterated the mclaren mp4-12c and its obsolete carbon tub. Mclaren's clean slate? you must be joking!!! All mclarens share identical engine chassis as those of mp4-12c. Mclaren = zero innovation. 488 would decimate the 675lt. Mclaren didn't even make their own engine. The engine in all mclarens are the 3.8l V8 M838T(based on Honda's V8) and was was built by Ricardo. Their obsolete chassis is made by the Austrian CarboTech. Space frame is much harder to engineer compared to carbon tub. Any tom, dick or harry can make a carbon tub, but that doesn't mean it is going to be better. MP4-12C was a massive cockup, so is 650s and 675lt. lmao
+Sam R How can you call a 675LT a massive cock-up when even Chris Harris is dead impressed by it? I'm a McLaren fan, but I also have a certain want for 488 GTB. Don't bash around other cars like that just because you don't like it.
Antonius Tyaswidyono Why is it a cockup? because it has the same engine/chassis and handles as appallingly as the old mp4-12c. Then again, mclaren knows that 90% of fanboys out there don't know that. Again, chris harris who??? Remember how 458 murdered the old mp4-12c and its carbon tub? Chris harris was impressed by that too. Without that carbon tub, what does mclaren have to offer? let me think..... an outdated MT838 V8, and.... well, nothing else. Ohh wait... and new headlamps. Apart from the increased power and front headlamps, 650s and 675lt are identical to mp4-12c.
I'm very puzzled as to how he can say this car sounds better or as good. I've you've never heard a 360 or a 458 it would sound pretty cool. But after the 458 it sounds so weak and flat
What you need to remember is the fact that the sound inside the 458 is incredibly monotome and to some extent, annoying. This has a lot going on, besides the engine itself that both rumbles and howls. Wastegate sound, the turbo spooling up, gear shift and overrun exhaust pops etc. It's a much more engaging sound wise than the 458, which sound rather artificial.
