Harry's uploads always brighten my day. I'll probably watch this one 10 times before the next one comes out. Feel like I almost know all his previous videos by heart. Hands down the best creator of these kind of videos on RUclips!
One of my favorite things about Harry's reviews is his enthusiasm for cars in general, it really comes through on every video I've seen. Also, its nice to see high end cars being driven/reviewed on public roads as opposed to just being belted around a closed race circuit. Keep up the good work Harry!
That graph at 10:00 is insane: The 488 has twice the torque and power the 458 does at 2000rpm. That's demented. I imagine you need to be in 4th or 5th gear to actually floor the 488, otherwise you'll be going backwards through a hedge in a different postcode
It is not that bad. Above 120 kph you can floor it pretty safely in any gear. Below 100, watch out. It will light them up in 5th Below 60 kph, not even wet mode will save you if you act stupid.
+Chris Sorreda Yes. He only talks when he has something to say and despite having clearly a brilliant car collection, there's no bragging involved. No 'look at me..you'll never have this' vibes that you get off of some other guys videos. What I also like is that he doesn't always go for the latest and greatest hypercars... but just what interests him. ( and me ). Doesn't matter if it's a spanking new Ferrari or just his ancient Land Rover Defender that has a top speed of about 50mph.
Quenton Millstid That depends on location though. I recently went to a cars and coffee near where I live (which is a small FL county) and I immediately said nope because it was 98% modern Corvettes and Mustangs. Sorry but I kinda like variety. Lol
I like that Harry gives an impression of what it would be like to own, rather than just going sideways at every opportunity. This is how they will be driven anyway.
The best surprise. Open youtube and find a new video of my favourite channel !!! Thank you very much Mr Metcalfe, please don`t make us wait so long for the next one. Cheers..
always look forward to your videos, your enthusiasm is shared even for the people who can never have cars like the ones you review. We can an insight of what these cars are really like through watching your uploads. Keep up the good work!!!
Beautiful car, I love this channel, I recently went to England, where I was born , for the first time in eight years, it's getting very overcrowded, I wanted to rent a really nice sports car for the three weeks I was going to be in the uk. I ended up renting the cheapest fiat 500 . The reason why is you cannot go anywhere fast anymore.
I was pointing out what had changed since the 458 was introduced in 2009, not saying turbos were introduced to F1 in 2009. Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment, though!
Harry's garage I was just saying this because maybe you didn't realise that you said that, "since 2009 formula 1 has gone turbocharged" (between 0:32 to 0:37). I understand if you didn't spot the mistake. Still a very nice review on the Ferrari 488 GTB.
+topgear279 I don't think it was a mistake personally. I understood that he meant since the introduction of the 458 in 2009, F1 has gone turbocharged. He wasn't stating that F1 changed to turbos in 2009.
Great review, this is my favourite car channel. What I find interesting about all the 488 reviews is that the car looks and sounds slow on camera. That dull sound it makes reminds me of the old 328, just no character. The car looks incredible though, and obviously is faster than the 458, it just lacks the charisma of that car though.
You, Mr Metcalfe Sir, and Chris Harris are two of the best petrolhead RUclipsrs on the Internet in my opinion. Shame you didn't get picked for the TopGear job!
I've been there last week. There was a Panda parked inside, after the barrier:) 1:29 - those 5 windows - Enzo's old office at the factory. He wanted to see everything that's going on.
Thanks for showing the boot Har. Ugh why hasn't anyone uploaded a video of this vs the Huracan so we can see which is faster??? 488 GTB and the Huracan are debatably the best work to date from both Lamborghini and Ferrari. A mix of the old and the new direction that cars are headed. Great work! These cars make me excited for whatever the new flagships will be!
Another great Video, both yourself and Chris Harris post the best videos here on RUclips. Its great that you spend time delivering quality content. The 488 GTB is not for me though (even if I could afford it) as I would go for a McLaren as it's British :-)
Loved the sound Harry - you really get a sense of how it would feel to be inside the thing at full pelt. Also loved that switchback corner down the hill which I think is the same one as you used for the Zonda 760RS which is incidentally the best sounding car I have ever heard!
I think it's the first time I see Harry driving at a proper pace! Driving like a mad Italian should! ;) Good video for something that wasn't planned. For the car I had the chance to ride in 3 Ferrari's (F430, F430 16M and a 458 Spyder) and the noise of this one is disappointing, maybe I will change my mind when I'll hear it in person...
Yup drove one for a day in the mountains east of San Diego. Unbelievable. Acceleration and Slamming on the brakes is beyond what I thought it would be. Braking is absolute killer. I also hit my personal high speed record with this car. Maybe soon I may be able to buy one. Need a couple investments to go well....This guy is driving it like a great grandpa compared to how I lit this thing up.
Harry, I absolutely love your work and really appreciate your knowledge and driving skill. But may I suggest you invest several hundred dollars in a proper wireless lavalier microphone so we can hear your commentary. There are choices now which are reasonably priced, easy to use, and utterly reliable. There is no downside except the approx $500 onetime outlay. It would be a huge improvement to sonically match the quality of your reviews.
+michael mottlau I was thinking the very same thing as I kept turning up the volume. His voice doesn't have to top the sound of the car, but a hair more audible would be nice otherwise excellent review!
Some say a car journalist is the king of life... I have to agree. Crusin' on such gorgeous Northern-Italian roads in a nice new Ferrari, ah... that's the way to live! :)
Geometry Dash Restriction it's an amazing machine. The 458 will undoubtably be a classic. Anything it gives up to the 488 in outright speed it makes up with sound and character
Thanks for the video. Constructive feedback: Perhaps you could invest some more in better quality microphones? Especially when you are driving, all you can hear is road noise. Anyways, Tks again.
+gamevalor You're right I should have done that.. I din't go out to Maranello to do a video on the 488 but it was such a fab day, I couldn't resist. As I was sharing the car with another journo, I couldn't dedicate the test to just doing an HG video, hence why I didn't shoot quite as much footage as I would normally. Thanks for the support!
+Harry's garage Please don't take this as an insult, however you should have told the other guy to sit back and respect his elders. Took over and did what you got to do! Just joking, thank you for the great videos. Cheers from Canada.
I thought I would hate the 488 but those downshifts sound reminiscent to the 355 and I love it. Ferrari also upgraded the software in the 488 over the 458
Top video again as per usual, Harry. Don't understand why people are complaining about not being to understand you and the need for a mic...Can hear you just fine! Is one of your patreon supporters James May? It appears he's send you a shirt...;)
always love watching mr metcalfe doing a detailes review and am missing his evo diaries. ive been wondering why they named this the way ferrari did because 488 is the individual cylinder capacity. i have no idea why because no one else seems to know either. also the speciale had a feature when you were braking hard, you could pull the left paddle and hold it and the car would downshift every gear perfectly and i was wondering if that little trait made it over into this 488
fantastically interesting and entertaining as ever to here your views and thoughts Harry. The performance of these cars is mind blowing now, to a point where they are only usable on the road at 25% of there abilities!!

+Harry's garage Yes, please Harry, you should do that! (I am a proud owner of a 1990 348 tb...) PS: and you are more than wellcome to visit Portugal, to drive and film in the beautiful Douro valley!
Love your reviews Harry. But have to disagree with this particular one. Horsepower is not everything, the car has lost it's n\a Ferrari soul. It has lost it's most important virtues: amazing sound and an instant response high-reving engine, you can't replace that! It sounds very average, at low speeds resembles EVO8. In the UK you don't need more horsepower, press the pedal for 2 seconds and your're already doing illegal speeds. Too much torque, too fast, does nothing for me. Just listen to some n\a's. Take Huracan for example, just listen to it!
+Zephyr751 woah calm down buddy. Everyone can agree that the 458 had one of the best sounding and preforming NA engines. And now that Ferrari no longer has that, the 488 by comparison is not as fun or enjoyable. Don't go bashing a car just because YOU don't like it cause evidently other people do like it
I know it's a sign of the times the quest for efficiency, but a downside to the effects of turbocharging is the lack of any aural quality from the exhausts, close your eyes and this could be any common or garden motor, the best sound for me personally is the V12 AMG in a Zonda.

You know you're in Maranello when none of the pedestrians turn and look at the car. Everyday stuff...
That graph at 10:00 is insane: The 488 has twice the torque and power the 458 does at 2000rpm. That's demented. I imagine you need to be in 4th or 5th gear to actually floor the 488, otherwise you'll be going backwards through a hedge in a different postcode

/It's kind of an event whenever Harry's Garage uploads a video isn't it?
+Chris Sorreda Not a event, more like a religious happening
+Chris Sorreda Agreed! Something about a gentleman enjoying extraordinary cars!
+Chris Sorreda Yes. He only talks when he has something to say and despite having clearly a brilliant car collection, there's no bragging involved. No 'look at me..you'll never have this' vibes that you get off of some other guys videos. +Chris Sorreda the drive to monaco in an old jag v12 has been my fave so far . . . . but they are all good
Great to watch someone who actually understands the engineering behind these machines, rather than the current crop of spoilt supercar vloggers!
Best video about this car that I've seen so far! Thank you Harry :)
You're a savage, Harry... and a wizard.
I prefer naturally aspirated, I'll take the spine chilling sound vs the power.
Harry is the sort of guy, you could sit infront of this car and have a coffee with and talk about cars for hours :)
Alastair Brown cars and coffee would be for you
Alastair Brown And the best part is, he could do 100% of the talking and I still wouldn't get bored listening to him.
Quenton Millstid That depends on location though. I recently went to a cars and coffee near where I live (which is a small FL county) and I immediately said nope because it was 98% modern Corvettes and Mustangs. Sorry but I kinda like variety. Lol
@@BoUrnNe26 he could narrate paint drying, and it would be interesting.
I'd love to meet Harry, and do that very thing, I'd bring out my 360 for such an occasion!
Cheers..
This is how a car review should be done. I missed this as I worked my way through your catalogue, but it popped up anyway. Fantastic review!
I'm in the same position as you Andy 11 months on.
Nice to hear from you again Harry - except we can't hear you very well! Super little film, and you create an excellent 'real world' feel.
You are spot on about details in this car. I always enjoy watch your VDO . You are the only one who can do this sort of thing .
Patrick
always look forward to your videos, your enthusiasm is shared even for the people who can never have cars like the ones you review. We can an insight of what these cars are really like through watching your uploads. Keep up the good work!!!
The most beautiful mid engined Ferrari since the F40 imo.
I think the 458 was more beautiful without those big gaping side vents, but it is a lovely car no doubt.
Carl beaumont both good compared to the f8 I think
Beautiful car, I love this channel, I recently went to England, where I was born , for the first time in eight years, it's getting very overcrowded, I wanted to rent a really nice sports car for the three weeks I was going to be in the uk. I ended up renting the cheapest fiat 500 . The reason why is you cannot go anywhere fast anymore.
Kindly invest in a stereo lavalier mic or proximity mic for the cabin dialog. I'd have 2; 1 for dialog and 1 for the background noise.
The turbos where only introduced in formula 1 in 2014. What was introduced on the engine for 2009 was the KERS unit.

Rob S Yeah. I understand that I could have been that looking at it again.
+topgear279 2014 is since 2009... Nothing innaccurate with what Harry said.
Harry is a legend ! , my favorite car reviewer on youtube!
At 4:06 you can clearly see the instant power at low (relatively spoken) revs that Harry is talking about at 9:30. Just see how it skids away there!
The 488 is the most beautiful Ferrari I've ever seen in the wild! Just a stunner!
Really wish this guy was put onto top gear. He would be a breath of fresh air!
No don't mess it up he's fine right where he is.

7:20 I THINK HARRY GOT RATHER TOO EXCITED GIVEN BY WHATS ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE
Oh my 😂
Great review as always. I've really warmed to this car as well. Will keep McLaren on their toes, esp with that sound!
Having a car that fast, where going full throttle is a rare occasion just makes it that much more special when you finally get to do it.
I've been there last week. There was a Panda parked inside, after the barrier:)
1:29 - those 5 windows - Enzo's old office at the factory. He wanted to see everything that's going on.
Always nice to see Harry on YT :)
love this guy. He's like an English grown up version of myself
Thanks for showing the boot Har. Ugh why hasn't anyone uploaded a video of this vs the Huracan so we can see which is faster??? 488 GTB and the Huracan are debatably the best work to date from both Lamborghini and Ferrari. YES!!! This is what I have been waitng for 488 and Harry :)

A new video. Thank you!
Man that shot at 1:35 of the car leaving the Ferrari factory is amazing. I'd love to visit there someday
Loved the sound Harry - you really get a sense of how it would feel to be inside the thing at full pelt. Also loved that switchback corner down the hill which I think is the same one as you used for the Zonda 760RS which is incidentally the best sounding car I have ever heard!
At 8:00 Harry seems like he can't wait to get it going, and when it is going he seems to relax. Such a funny little detail!
Great video! Reminds me the good old times. I miss the videos of Evo diaries that Harry did.
I think it's the first time I see Harry driving at a proper pace! Driving like a mad Italian should! ;) Good video for something that wasn't planned. you must be an amazing driver if you were slamming on the brakes. was your mom holding your cafe latte? 🤡
I found Harry's channel a while ago, I watched nearly all his vids in a few days, it was a long wait for a new video.
Please, Harry, put in subtitles in the part of this film where you are in the cockpit driving the car. The engine covers what you are saying.
I really wish you'd find a better way to record yourself in-car, Harold.
Beautiful car, but the 458 is certainly better looking
Hands up who checks everyday for a new video from Harry's Garage???
Great video Harry as usual , can't wait for the next one.
The 488 is gorgeous! Best looking and performing Ferrari to date!
Great video!!! - but you need an external microphone for better audio of your voice inside the car, when your are driving.
+michael mottle I think it sounded just right, so you can hear the noise of the car and Harry talking... Just my 2p
+michael mottlau
I was thinking the very same thing as I kept turning up the volume. His voice doesn't have to top the sound of the car, but a hair more audible would be nice otherwise excellent review!
Nice Video esp at the end where we hear the engine. Good work.
Harry this is the best 488 video out there! Loved it..
Harry your reviews are always great but please buy a microphone and use it specially when you're inside cars!!! ;)
you are by the far one of the best reviewers...but for some reason you remind me of Tom Noonan in Last action Hero.
Some say a car journalist is the king of life... I have to agree.
Crusin' on such gorgeous Northern-Italian roads in a nice new Ferrari, ah... that's the way to live! :)
Don't forget the 911 Turbo S! It's a savage thing
Porsche? Lol
yeah Porsche do it better and with a smaller engine
+Art Vandelay With wayyy more turbo lag though
+Serbia CarFan Off the line it's more savage but I just doubt it will keep pushing after 70 as hard as this can!
Love the 488 GTB! It's such an amazing and gorgeous machine. Simply a masterpiece.
I miss the 458 Italia, is my favorite Ferrari
Geometry Dash Restriction it's an amazing machine. The 458 will undoubtably be a classic. Anything it gives up to the 488 in outright speed it makes up with sound and character
I love the 488 because it’s flawed, at least compared to 458. The problem I had with the 458 was it too perfect.
Compulsory Speech There is nothing "flawed" about the 488! It's absolutely perfect. You people are just insane.
Thanks for the video.
Constructive feedback: Perhaps you could invest some more in better quality microphones? Especially when you are driving, all you can hear is road noise. Anyways, Tks again.
You the man Harry. Although the 488 is hardly the entry-level Ferrari, the California T is. Which was the first current-gen turbo'd Rarri.
Best 488 review so far tbf
Great video of a modern supercar! Next time please add a camera near your seat facing forward, so we can watch you drive the road in first person.
+Harry's garage
Please don't take this as an insult, however you should have told the other guy to sit back and respect his elders. Took over and did what you got to do! Just joking, thank you for the great videos. Cheers from Canada.
I'd very much prefer the turbocharged 288 GTO from 1984-1985. It was the most beautiful Ferrari, aside from the Testarossa, of course.
Like the tone of this more than the 458 from the outside at least.
I thought I would hate the 488 but those downshifts sound reminiscent to the 355 and I love it. Ferrari also upgraded the software in the 488 over the 458
Thanks for posting, always love your vids Harry. Sound is a bit iffy in this one. Voice is low in the mix and yet it's boomy. Keep posting the vids.
Top video again as per usual, Harry. Don't understand why people are complaining about not being to understand you and the need for a mic...Can hear you just fine!
Is one of your patreon supporters James May? It appears he's send you a shirt...;)
always love watching mr metcalfe doing a detailes review and am missing his evo diaries. ive been wondering why they named this the way ferrari did because 488 is the individual cylinder capacity. i have no idea why because no one else seems to know either. also the speciale had a feature when you were braking hard, you could pull the left paddle and hold it and the car would downshift every gear perfectly and i was wondering if that little trait made it over into this 488
best 488 gtb review, thank you harry
Harry, I love your work and would love to see some of your adventures published in our U.S. magazine! Any chance of this ever happening??
Great video, really enjoyable and I absolutely appreciate your content!
Yet another terrific review Harry, thanks!
Thank you...very instructive and a pleasure to listen to you
That exhaust note at the end is a nice touch. Make more videos about new cars Harry.
Such good reviews, excellent style of supercar video!! Keep up the good work!
fantastically interesting and entertaining as ever to here your views and thoughts Harry. The performance of these cars is mind blowing now, to a point where they are only usable on the road at 25% of there abilities!!
another great 1 Harry!
but I have to pester you again: lets see a film about your old 924!
I remember some of these roads from the 599 Aperta and 760RS Zonda videos.
I remember some of those roads from when you drove your Zonda around them.
There’s only three things a British man would like in a car:
1- right steering wheel
2- rear wheel traction
3- bumpy road button
That’s it nothing more
Always a joy to see your videos!
Brilliant, thanks Harry! Amazing car
Great review, as always. Thank you Harry.
Another great review Harry, I had no issues with the sound, maybe everyone else just needs better headphones :p
+Miggy2j Thanks, sounded fine to me too but some people love to have a grumble! Car is much more interesting to listen to than me anyway..
Everyone’s favourite uncle spanking a fezza through the mountains. Proper 🙌
I watched the Chris harris review of this car and and the Ferrari test driver said its the brakes from the f12. Still love your videos :)
Very nice video as always Harry!
It would be nice if you could test older v8 Ferraris like the 348 (my favourite despite what LDM said about it)...
Greetings from Portugal!
+Gonçalves Dias I'm a big fan of late model 348, how much the 348 improved over time is a little known fact that perhaps I need to revisit on day..
+Harry's garage
Yes, please Harry, you should do that! (I am a proud owner of a 1990 348 tb...)
PS: and you are more than wellcome to visit Portugal, to drive and film in the beautiful Douro valley!
Classy as always Mr.Metcalfe
Love your reviews Harry. But have to disagree with this particular one. Horsepower is not everything, the car has lost it's n\a Ferrari soul. It has lost it's most important virtues: amazing sound and an instant response high-reving engine, you can't replace that! It sounds very average, at low speeds resembles EVO8. use a dedicated mic and cut it in and out....ps..love your vids
I know it's a sign of the times the quest for efficiency, but a downside to the effects of turbocharging is the lack of any aural quality from the exhausts, close your eyes and this could be any common or garden motor, the best sound for me personally is the V12 AMG in a Zonda.
Top quality video and car as always. Thanks Harry!
We want to hear more of your wise words Harry! Otherwise usual great upload.
Another excellent vid Harry!
Keep it up :o)
7:14 - What's the white leak?
+bongmistt Was also just wondering that, im guessing if it was serious he'd mention it, the guy knows cars.
+pizzapingvin Just replied to an earlier post explaining what had caused it. Nothing to worry about..
I'm with Luca, hate spoilers. looks awesome. still haven't driven one and then there is the F8.
Fab video as always Harry!
Brilliant review Harry , what a lovely car
Nicely put! What would a sports- or supercar be good for if you could access all of the power all the time everywhere.
Fanastic review. Great ferrari in classico red. I wish I could afford one.
Nice Harry, thank you and FORZA FERRARI
classy style Harry , great review as usual thanks !
