Exactly
I’m tired of these niggas yeah
Animateddreamer true
Because no other race could ever love a black woman unless its because of a fetish or something nefarious. In reality in the 80's being in an interracial marriage with children still wasn't safe and it had only been legal a short time. What a way to diminish progress acting like a man married to a black woman for 15 years who were together during desegregation is doing it for a fetish.
*read the following in sarcasm*
Yes media, please continue to push how unworthy black women are of basic respect and love. You're right, no one could ever love us and not sexualize us.
earth star What gets on my nerves is that ALL women are fetishized. Asian women, white women and latinas. They turn that desire into something more for themselves!
15 years and they’re just having this conversation? Weird.
EXACTLY 🙄
Its a TV show genius.
The whole point of the shows that they spend 15 years in a world where it didn't matter and it's only now that they're thrust into the real world that these issues are popping up. In the pilot the kids didn't even know they were mixed until they went to school
Sometimes a conversation don't start until someone plant a seed. It may not bother you initially until someone else mention it. Then you start asking questions. Especially with women!
@@seanswift1072 yep you nailed it. That's the whole premise to this show really. I enjoy watching it. 😊
I think the difference between preference and fetish is that a preference is just what you're typically physically attracted to, but a fetish is when you don't even see the person as a unique individual with their own unique personality, and only as the set of physical characteristics that you like. I also believe that to fetishize someone is to view them only as a sexual object. I don't think that's the case here. Paul actually loves Alicia for who she is. His dating history definitely suggests that black women are his preference though.
Thank you for breaking down the difference. Alot of people need to know that

Interesting
Black women are allowed to be preferred & the eye of desire without it being a “fetish.” Don’t believe the hype.
exactly! One can just love and prefer black women and their beauty without having to be labeled as a dehumanizing fetish
Lauren Jackson exactly i prefer black women, and my wife is black. Shouldn’t someone logically marry someone they are most attracted towards?
Lauren Jackson, thank you for this. I’m not black and I always wondered why was this a question? Y’all are stunning, yes, but does that mean you’re just a fetish? No!
Thank God. I was starting to feel weird. I wouldn't call it a fetish it's just what I prefer and what I find attractive, not just in a sexual way
I'm pretty sure your all describing a definition of a fetish
Why is it a fetish if it's black or asian women??? Why can it not just be a preference? It's just such a dehumanising term.
Because being with someone like this.. They dehumansise but it takes a whiles to notice.. The sexist upbringing of society is already hard enough to navigate without adding fetishism as well.. Essentially men are prone to objectification women into being a posssention.. The last thing anyone wants in a relationship is to m have their needs ideas and autonomy dismissed.. I really believe this is what lead to domestic violence..
@ASK A CLASSY BLACK MAN TV RADIO NEWS WISDOM Which is just as wrong...........
@purplefashion03 but we're not in the past now! and all men aren't the same!
@purplefashion03 although i somewhat agree with you and think it goes both ways such as black men sometimes fetishizing white women with terms as "pawg" and the subconscious taboo of being with one, i still also agree with the other person that these things dont apply to everyone we can't label every preference a fetish
If you are only having sex with them and then leaving..THATS a fetish..because you are only interested in them sexually and not for a relationship. If you are with them to build a life and family thats just a preferance.
"Can we just relax and watch Foxy Brown?" 😂
So a white guy being attracted to women with dark skin is a ‘Fetish’?? Everyone has there own preferences, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Stop calling prejudices preferences!!!
I prefer brunettes to blondes, does that make me have a brunette fetish? Or prejudice towards blondes? Lol No. if i was dating someone because of their culture or just Because they were black then that would be a fetish. But not if you tend to find black women attractive.

I recently came across a black fetish white guy...he only pursues black women which I think is strange. It's one thing to be open to dating a black woman like any other woman but another to hone in on black women like they are an expensive steak. I don't want a guy that feels lucky to have me because I'm black. It's a backhanded compliment. It makes it seem like that person harbors negative feelings about their own race. Like they only want to be with a black woman to feel cool, progressive, or release white guilt from the slavery era. Like, thanks for putting me on a pedestal but my color and culture are not some little black dress to show off. It is a part of me and deeply contributes to who I am, but it is not all of me. I am not a 1 dimensional characteristic. I am a whole person who happens to be black.
I totally understand that but what if their preference is based on looks, what if they are just really attracted to the way black people look more than their own race but have no negative feelings to their own race, if that is the case then I’d say it’s fine :)
I had a white ex that was the same, I feel that 😔

Damn, so liking a black woman was even considered “unconventional” in the 80s. I thought things had changed by then
Shasha Vengesayi interracial marriage was legalized in America 50years ago. That was in 1970...10 years from the 80s... So yeah this is not surprising considering the times...
It was the 80s it was slowly being accepted
It wasn't unconventional, the media is just good at highlighting division. I know so many biracial adults whose parents married during the 80 & 70s, so it's not as "taboo" as they are making it out to be. All you have to do is travel to places like NYC, DC, ATL, London, or any major city/capital, interracial dating is actually more common than people think.

When it becomes a pattern where being with a Black person is "cool" to do (here's to you Kardashian- Jenner clan)...it's a fetish. You're also 15 years and three kids too late to ask that question.
Nothing he said indicated that he fetishized being with her bc she’s Blk. “Cool” isn’t indicative of a fetish. And the kardashians seem to just like Blk men, they’ve never made any exploitative comments abt Blk men that would indicate that their preference is in fact a fetish. Some of y’all in the community are just triggered by nonBlk women w/ Blk men bc it sparks up an insecurity. Pls let it go and develop some self esteem. What's this fetish question. Why can't he just have a preference for black women. I know quite a few men of different races that have a preference for black women. So what?
I think a fetish is more sexual in nature and there’s a difference between that and having a “preference” for a specific type off person. Everyone has there own version of attractive. Everyone sees different people attractive and as long as your not seeing the people as purely sexual objects I don’t think it’s wrong necessarily, though I do understand her concern, we’re humans we get insecure sometimes but I feel like they could have gone about this in a different way instead of making it seem like Paul only was attracted to them for sexual reasons. I personally don’t see this situation as that but I think it’s an important conversation to be had sometimes.
I remember later on in this episode when they’re at a clothing store and (I’m paraphrasing a bit) but he asks her if she in fact has a fetish for white men and if she’s only with him for the color of his skin and she replies with “It doesn’t work that way!” It felt so dismissive and the whole argument is just so one sided.
So he finds black women attractive? What's the big deal? It's not like he would've married any old black woman. He married the woman who had many traits he was attracted to. He married the right woman for him.
I....ok as a white woman clearly I don't understand this but to try and say the only reason a non black man would love a black woman was because of a fetish? Am I naive? You don't marry someone in such a difficult time period because of that.
The ppl who made it through that did so BECAUSE of love.
No you're right BUT if it's like he has only dated black woman it comes off as odd
@ASK A CLASSY BLACK MAN TV RADIO NEWS WISDOM
There's a difference between preferences and fetishism.
Race Fetishizing is actually really gross. But there are some genuine people out there that see the person for who they are and not their color/features.
Is it weird that he reminds me of my fiance? I asked him how many black women has he dated and he told me 5 and I asked him has he dated any non black women and he said 1. Hmmmm......
Fetish sis
Not a fetish that's his preference. He put a ring on it.
@@roxilindaaa just coz someone marries their fetish doesnt mean it doesnt exist
The difference between a fetish and a preference is obsession. I know a black woman obsessed with black men, who they date, how they look, etc. I felt just as icky listening to her talk about black men as I would a white woman talking about black men. Its objectifying. Meanwhile, I know brothers who just prefer black women because it's just convenient.
Black women are the only women who think a man has a fetish if he prefers to only date black women. Stop thinking you’re not worthy.
It's funny cause mark Paul (the guy) actually had a long term relationship with Lisa from saved by the Bell for 3+ years. Most people didn't believe it or couldn't phantom. Dunno why....
I am right there and agree with you! I don't get it either why people find that hard to believe or can't phantom it! Heck when they first started on Good Morning Bliss, this was before Mario, Elizabeth and Tiffani came on as part of SBTB. So, he and Lark already began their connection and bonding. Plus, at the time they had both of their mothers mainly involved in their upbringing and careers. While the rest had both of their parents, so as life goes, on thing leads to another.
I don't think either one of them ever thought about race like, 'Well, I think I want to date a black girl and since Lark is black, I'll go with her.' Or 'I really want to date a white dude, so I'll go on and date Mark-Paul.' They were like 13 when they did GMB and were innocent. It was something that grew in after being around each other for a while. I mean heck, they pretty much grew up in front of the cameras!
Probably because it was during a time that race mixing wasn't that common or accepted.
@@markilew250 yes yes yes! It was as if MP was trying let Lark know, although in my character as Zack has to have these different girlfriends, you are my number one.
Aside from Bayside Triangle. Episodes of Jesse's Dad's Wedding, Mystery Weekend, Zack's Operation, and Home for Christmas all show some very telling scenes between the two of them!
@@nileyfan1998 And I forgot to add MP himself earlier this year (without saying her name) in an interview even said so. He mentioned how when you are a teenager and on a show like SBTB and you are with a cast like that of these beautiful women within 6-9 mos in the year obviously something was going to happen. Meaning a young man his age was obviously going to get with one of them. He didn't even focus nor dated any of the female guest stars because he was more in this bubble of being attached to the cast member he was dating on the show. All of the media prefers to jump into this whole he revealed he dated Elizabeth but I heard that interview and it was one of the interviewers who mentioned Elizabeth NOT MP! He was just trying to be polite and said 'yeah' but he was about to say something else until he was cut off!
Anyway, in another interview also earlier this year he expressed how they were having fun with each other on the set of SBTB and how what he MAINLY remembers fondly were times outside of the set of the show he said "environment" which I think he was trying to carefully choose his words. And places like in Hawaii and Palm Springs, all of those times was when he was with Lark not Tiffani or Elizabeth! And he said these words 3x in that interview too: good times. This is what he remembered! Not the script or episodes but what was going on in his life at that time!

That's very true
This is the first time they’re bringing their relationship histories up? Were they just high all that time in the commune?
Lauren O But this is a TV show. It’s not necessarily suppose to be an accurate depiction of a real life interracial relationship. The episode has a story it wants to tell and this scene was put in to carry along the plot.
Yeah, they could have talked about this before, but that wouldn’t have been as entertaining as the viewers being able to watch this interaction unfold in “real time”
NewBlueTrue Yeah, I got that. It just seems ridiculous in general that a relationship over a decade old would leave such an obvious question untouched.
Lauren O You’ve got a point
*How have they been married 15 years and she NEVER asked him that before ????? Weird*
I kind of find this a semi-autobiographical for Paul (Mark-Paul) aka Zack Morris because It's no secret about him and Lark aka Lisa Turtle regardless of what she claims to deny it. In this scene, they did say he dated two white girls in high school: Tiffani-Kelly and Elizabeth-Jesse, anybody?
Anyway, then starting by Truth Be Told-Mixedish, this actor suddenly seems to be doing shows that are black-themed in some way. And in Pitch it was his character and Kylie's character Ginny (obvious mutual attraction), then The Passage, he becomes like this protective father-figure to a little black girl, and now we got Mixed-ish with an actress for years people felt she favored Lark Voorhies!
Connect-the-dots peeps!
Illuminati confirmed. Lol
I was just about to comment that they kinda look alike
You do know Saved by the Bell is FICTIONAL, right?
@@notthefather3919 Yes, SBTB is fictional but the people who played them all admitted that they dated, expect Dustin. Well, and Lark denies dating Mark-Paul but that is a whole other story there. Obviously what was shown on the show of their characters is what was fictional. MP was never that deep into Tiffani like their characters Zack & Kelly. Mario was never that deep into Elizabeth as their characters were as AC & Jesse. Lark was never that superficial and into fashion as her character was as Lisa Turtle.
And plus, MP has for years shared how much his hair was not actually blonde like Zack Morris. He is actually a brunette although when he was a small child it did start of as blonde but due to his mother being Asian or part-Asian (which no one is really sure how deep her Asian bloodline is) as he got older became darker. Plus if anyone looks closely to some of those SBTB episodes it is clear that he naturally has dark roots anyways.
Uhh, you're talking about Mark-Pauls portrayl in this scene semi-autobiographical, and used fictional characters as examples. What his character, Zach Morris did, is not autobiographical.

In black ish he had a license plate say “BLK WFE” in the episode where Bow and Dré renew their vows and have a wedding. Same episode he keeps checking out black women and the wife says ...”Hey you already have a black wife. Originally fetish means sexual preference so he probably has a preference for women of color. He doesn’t discriminate because he “doesn’t see color” but maybe he was worried that she other people would take it the wrong way if it came off as he only loves women of color
After all those other women, and 15 years married, you’d have to call it a preference. On a side note, he’s part Asian. Maybe not the character, but I thought it was cool, for obvious reasons, that they cast a mixed•ish guy to play the husband.

Right and probably means he shouldn't had got with her to begin with 😅
This is weird on like 3 different levels.
1. Just because a white person in in love with a black person, it doesn't mean that he has a fetish. In fact, it's kind of insulting to think that's the only reason someone would love someone of another race. And for the record, having a type is not the same thing as having a fetish.
2. It makes no sense why they are talking about this *15 years* into their relationship. You can't honestly expect be to believe the wife thinks those last 15 years are nothing more than a product of a fetish.
3. This is the 1980's. I'm pretty sure most the vast majority of everyday people had no idea what a fetish was. This show is really weird about taking modern day concepts and imposing them on what was happening 40 years earlier. You can't expect people living in the 80's to have the same thought process and sociological vocabulary as you do today, that's just not an accurate portrayal of that time.
