Even with the 86 soon to be revealed I'm still excited to get the Earthrise as I think it'll be one of the last times for a while we get an approximation of G1 Optimus while being slightly updated/more modern. Already love the Siege mode, and Earthrise does an amazing job of cleaning up the arm kibble while slightly improving the design with an additional Matrix chamber. Trailer is an absolute miss as this could have easily just been a Voyager release. Another really good contender subjectively is the recent Reactivate Prime. Definitely a more earth inspired alt mode than Siege with the same windshield/chest design as G1 Optimus as many of these updates do outside of different animated continuities.
In hindsight i wish i'd bought the CW Optimus shelf-warming at my local Argos when i could as he goes for a premium now, Main incentive was cos he was the starter character in Forged To Fight, which i'd started to play at the time.
Siege Prime is my best in terms of G1 with POTP as a 2nd because of how you could turn him into Orion. I dont have Optimus but rather the Nemesis version of POTP. In my opinion, I can see parts of why Earthrise could be better, but I honestly dont see it fully. I prefer Siege over Earthrise The overall Optimus design I prefer is Bayverse 1-3 design. And the ROTB figure honestly is simple and preferred in terms of G! for Transformation

Thank god Takara fixed those hollow arms in Power Master Optimus for their Legends God Ginrai release. Of the ones you mentioned, POTP is my favorite due to how much more detail he had from being leader size. Of the G1 inspired Primes that arent G1, ROTB and Reactivate are my favorites.

You have a definitive G1 Prime in Masterpiece, twice over. Most every toy you take issue with from Prime Trilogy are perfectly fine and enjoyable toys back from when Transformers was a toy-line with line-wide play patterns and fun. Until Siege there was clearly a concentrated effort to make cool toys that were still designed with children in mind, not the more collector focused action figures Generations has become. Unfortunately in the Transformers fandom, many adults can't appreciate a toy being a toy.
@@Chrisjaam It was still at a time when retail = general audiences = children. PotP's big push for the Dinobots, something recently brought back in the media at the time, AOE, is a concentrated effort in appealing to kids. Thrilling 30s is about the only subline prior to Siege that felt adult orientated because let's be honest, kids aren't reading IDW. Line wide play patterns like Prime Wars are very much a kids toyline theme. Prior to that, Universe / Generations mostly existed because the demand was so high due to the first few films and needing a place for sublines like the game toys. That's why there is a lot of carry over from the film lines, to keep continuity. It's not about me not being able to handle criticism, I can see the issues with PM Prime especially, but being able to judge things for what they are rather than what they want them to be, is an ability largely missing in the fanbase. I think it would be a very fair assessment to say the TF fanbase, ironically, hates toys. Just for whatever personal reason, would prefer the general lines cater to them rather than splurge on MP that was always directed at them. Honestly I would argue that even mentioning any toy prior to Siege is a mistake as they have a very different goal in mind.
Optimus Prime doesn't really have bad figures i have the siege primium version and its fun cool and a bit complex Know Optimus Prime doesn't really have bad fighters Even combiner wars i like the idea of Optimus Prime combining cuz he is a prime and match with his brother Nexus Prime now Agen Optimus Prime doesn't have bad figures because his design is so simple that is what makes Optimus Prime more special he is definitely just too perfect you can't ask mutch more from him.
Earthrise Optimus Prime has a great alt mode and opening chest but horribly long legs and short arms, making him look disproportionate. Siege Optimus Prime has a great alt mode but a huge backpack in robot mode and his leg angulation sucks due to the skirt impeding the thigh movement. Studio Series ROTB Optimus Prime has a great robot mode with great articulation, but too much kibble in alt mode which just ruins the look of it. Studio Series Bumblebee Optimus Prime has a great robot mode and great alt mode but terrible articulation, as he, similarly to Siege Prime, has impeded leg articulation. And these four were the closest Optimus Primes we got in recent years that come close to resembling G1 Optimus Prime. All of them are flawed in some way and it sucks. I really want us to get an SS86 Optimus Prime which will be the definitive Optimus Prime figure with a great robot mode and great alt mode, and my fingers are crossed that they succeed.
Honestly, legs seem to be a weak point for every Studio Series figure that is a semi. Every Optimus, Galvatron, Scourge, and even DotM Megatron all get messy around their trailer/legs area, particularly in alt mode. It is weird.
I bought the bbts version of powermaster op and all the upgrades and legends god bomber. Its one of my favorite earthly possessions. I love your videos like this one. Keep em coming! Cheers!
Seeing this just reminds me of why until Siege/Earthrise, I collected everything Transformers excpet the toys. The figures all looked awful for me until about 2019 as they weren't toon accurate or really felt like quality figures.
I dunno, Prime and Animated's figure lines were really, really solid during their run. Even the ones with sound effects were solid when in almost every other line they were pretty awful.
I gotta say for me the best G1 Optimus that scales with my other figures is the KBB MP-10V. I know it's 3rd party, but right now I think it's the best Voyager class Prime you can get, and for just $50 it might be the best Prime period.
Going down your list, a few things to note. 1. Classics 06 Optimus is pretty easily upgradeable as well, as, even all these years later, BBTS still has the Fansprojecy Parallax 6 upgrade kits available, at a steep discount, and has been discounted to $16 for years now. It's a tad fidgety at places, but adds all the articulation it was missing, between both a wrist swivel and opening and closing hands, along with faked foot articulation. Further, it doesn't use any of the old guns, so you can buy a junker missing all it's parts and upgrade that. I got mine for $5 at a thrift store. 2. CW sucks because he's nothing but a motormaster retool, but if you can find it, SND made a bunch of cool upgrade kits for him, especially the white "Power Core" version, who they made a conversion kit into Nova Prime for. The upgraded figure is CW Megatron sized, so he's nearly MP scaled, but it converts him into a pretty cool IDW Optimus. 3&5. These guys suffered from a lack of forsight. The CW mold would have been good for retooling into star convoy due to the lack of a transforming cab, while the PotP/Gen Selects mold is already 90% of the way to being a Powermaster Optimus. 4. The TR Voyager pretty much only exists because it was a pretty easy retool of Octane, and they were still doing the nearly line-wide headmaster gimmick. Toyhax had the neat idea of making it an action master homage, as the action master figure came with a truck that turns into a jet. The Mold did get a repaint in proper G2 colors though. 6. Nobody was sick of G1 Optimus when Siege released. As you yourself stated, all of the previous releases had been severely compromised as retools or gimmick figures (CW was a bad motormaster retool and a combiner, TR was really a G2 Optimus, TR's leader was a Powermaster, PotP was MP scaled), making Siege Optimus the first true G1 Chug scaled Optimus since Classics 06, and probably the most solid Optimus. While he doesn't have all the gimmicks of later releases, he transforms simply and does it well, looking the most like the G1 cartoon of any of them. 7. ER has soured on me significantly. At first, I coped hard for the thing after all the months I spent hunting him down. I NEEDED it to be good and spent more time than I'm proud of arguing with Perspective end in it's defense, but the more I looked at his bulging and disproportionate chest, the more I came to despise it. I even eventually took to trying to mod my figure, ruining it, but discovering it was just a few tweaks from being perfect, as the chest sitting just a few millimeters back solved almost all the issues I had with it. However, what is not so easily fixed is how stubby his arms are. He came with a matrix of leadership he can barely hold and a trailer that's a joke. The netflix release i eventually tracked down looks a lot better, but still suffers horribly unless looked down at so the monoboob is less obvious. You didn't touch on it, but it technically counts as a G1 style Optimus, so I will. Galaxy Upgrade Optimus is a disgrace. A G1 style body wearing Cybertron inspired armor is a really update, especially in hindsight, when we are getting stellar new versions of other continuities. What I believe could have been done to make the concept work, though, is making it RiD 2001 Optimus instead of Cybertron. Throw out the G1 inner bot and make him into the firetruck from RID, transforming into a small fire convoy, who combines with his armor into his super-mode. Then release a retooled Siege Ultra Magnus as RiD Ultra Magnus, but with his combiner parts being that of Omega Prime. As it was, the figure combined with the armor nearly identically to how Fire Convoy combined with his various super modes, and while not perfect, would have at least made sense for the mold.
Behind every Optimus Prime figure that came out is inspiration done by the designers, some maybe amazing, some maybe meh, if it sucks then it's not for you, you don't have to buy it, just like RUclips channel, if you don't like, no need to subscribe or watch it.
I happen to love all of them. Especially evolution, earthrise, and one you didn’t cover yet, reactivate. I will say though, octane wore the TR mold way better than prime did

This is gonna be about unwarranted hype, isn't it?
Why didn't you bring up the Takara Legends Super Ginrai version of TR Powermaster Optimus, as all of your complaints about the hollowness of the figure, were rectified with that version of it? Also your argument regarding TR Voyager Optimus are inaccurate. The figure was clearly a TR Octane pretool, where to squeeze the Decepticon Triplechangers into the line, they made Optimus and Megatron pretools of them. The tanker and tank modes were clearly the spin as to why the Triplechangers were pretooled in this manner.
@@Chrisjaam which is a flawed position for anything pre-POTP, especially when it comes to the Legends/Unite Warriors era. Those lines weren't specialty lines, they were Takara main line figures and plenty of um were either importing them from the likes of HLJ, Robot Kingdom, etc at the time, or getting them from local online retailers. Do you think it's a coincidence that Takara just happened to kill off a major chunk of their Transformers business around that time, to produce the exact same figures that Hasbro were? However even if you discount that, this version of the mold was sold through BBTS as part of the Siege on Cybertron set anyway, where the term exclusive, really does belong in air quotes. Like I said, exclusing Legends Super Ginrai from that list was a flawed decision.
Likely the reveal for 86 optimus prime. The wording hints to it especially with the word "prime." Remember, they hinted to the haslab with "omega" so they are familiar with unsubtle hints.
Oh nothing much, just some lousy 86' Optimus Prime toy that pretty much EVERYONE has been asking for- This is why I'd rather want to see a Skybound Transformers Generations toyline over both Studio Series 86 and Marvel Comics toylines anyday because I don't know what's so special about those two Transformers G1 comic and movie toylines that the fans love so much ._.
I would put the Reactivate Optimus in the running. A solid set of four figurrs. Hope they make a non battle damaged black parts iptions for those that don't want that aesthetic.
There was the Generations Selects Star Convoy.. the "New Years" inspired inner bot on that release was.. far more faithful than any of them since Classics until Earthrise. Yeah.. the arms were too thin and the chest a bit too big.. but really it was pretty decent. I have to say though.. when looking at this new Commander class Prime.. and how they did Springer.. I wouldn't be overly shocked if it was just Earthrise Prime with a few touch ups and a much better trailer. We should all be tempering our expectations here.
I dont think hasbro has any reason to make it a retool. This is a studio series figure, at the commander budget, on the 40th year of transformers, and they just reissued earthrise. They would not shoot themselves in the foot like that. It is fair that people should control their expectations though, because there are places where thus figure could go wrong.
I just got the kbb mp10v, which is a ko downscale of mp10. Until I ultimately get the ss86 prime, it’s my definitive Optimus. It’s great quality and is awesome with other chug scaled figures
I think he was an Octane pretool. Titans return did Laser Prime, Megatron, and Sentinel Prime so that they could also do Octane, Blitzwing, and Astrotrain.
7:15 I thought the CW figure was meant to be based on the inner cab of Powermaster Prime/Ginrai. It can be turned into IDW Prime with an add on kit, but that's not the basis

I don't understand your definition of G1.... G1 is from start of the IP till end of the Marvel comic run in the United States or till the end of Zone in Japan. Other things aren't really G1. IDW isn't G1. Is it G1 inspired? Yes it is. Combiner Wars/Power of the Primes isn't really G1. Was it re-imaginings of G1? Yes. Do I want updates to G1 toys and versions of those characters? 100%. With that said, a lot of these aren't G1 or meant to be redo of G1 Optimus. I can almost seen an argument for the Power of the Primes because it has Orion Pax and becomes Optimus. Earthrise, as well it is a decent Optimus Prime that is based on G1. Also at the end of the day these are toys made by a company that wants to make money and sees their audience as children.
I think you are being to harsh on the primes, growing up in the my personal golden age from Bay verse and Prime to the prime wars trilogy, and having Owned most of them, I never had any problems with them, I think it was really good that Hasbro was trying new things and gimmicks like the Titans return voyager which I had up until about a year ago,and I really liked all the gimmicks as a kid, and at the end of the day these are children's toys, being this critical based on looks alone is not super fair especially when you only ever owned 2 of them, I really love your content being but try to be a little bit more compassionate when only going off their looks, also despite having official heights, g1s animation were really inconsistent so who is to say the potp is really not accurate
This is a good video...I would love to see this same topic tackled with all the MP Primes...for the mainline, I'd have to say the Siege Prime is my favorite because of his heroic look followed closely by the Earthrise Prime...
Dude the combiner wars power of the whatever toylines were so bad they made me fall off of collecting for like 5 years I picked back up around earthrise after grabbing a hoist, night and day.
Combiner Wars/Titan Returns/PotP was great for characters who would rarely/never see figures since they were the lines that went repaint crazy with deluxes to fill in combiners. I don't think anyone could've called getting most of the 'early' femme bots that weren't Arcee/Chromia/Elita-1 in a single toy line. Or that we'd get figures of every 'major' combiner and some off the wall ones like Sky Reign, Galvatronus, Megaempress, and Volcanicus. While the figures weren't individually great since a lot of them were retools/remolds/outright repaints, they definitely filled in the collection and gave us a period of time where the things on the shelves weren't always the same characters. I mean, we even got Overlord, Sixshot, headmasters, Metroplex, Trypticon, Fortress Maximus, and Scorponok in what was basically the same line. Siege/Earthrise/Kingdom followed up as a more serious take and a return to figures as individual characters but also included some iffy gimmicks like the battle damage paint, then weaponizers/fossilizers that seemed purposely designed to be kind of baffling in terms of what connected where. I don't think I'll really forgive them for Siege/Earthrise basically selling us the same characters twice in a row with the addition of store exclusivity & scarcity for characters like Bumblebee, Elita-One, and Soundwave. Not to mention how they did the same with the Coneheads, Ratchet, and Ironhide. Or how the cybertronian guard weaponizer Hasbro-store exclusive figure (stateside) had all the missing accessories people wanted (It had Roller even though both Earthrise and Kingdom Optimus didn't) and would sell out within the hour whenever they stocked it.
@shinzero0271 I agree it did help shape out a lot of characters who likely won't be seen for a good while But man, that plastic quality throws me off still I've got gen selects Black Zarrack, and one of the titans returns voyagers while the actual heads feel about the same, the plastic quality on the legacy transtector is just a massive step up in hand feel I wish we got more full boxed sets in Combiner wars, I would've probably been more interested in that line specifically if hunting down all the fellas in a set wasn't it's own adventure (though I do know some folks find that fun) I don't think alot of what hasbro did in the WFC trilogy was that great, leaders specifically are still a massive nitpick for me [man they are SMALL now i do not CARE FOR THE EXTRA BITS and they always seem to put the BIG NAMES at this pricepoint] But I will say Voyagers and Delux's feel much more in line with what we had around the thrilling thirty line, if not a bit too g1 in some cases for me [basically %60 of earthrise] Idfk what's going on with the bumblebee mold either, from cliffjumper to 86 bee he's just been super overpriced this whole time for how small he is. Trust me, I'm not calling the current lines perfect It's just the smathering of figures I've picked up have been pretty alright, and they've really gotten me back into collecting a good bit
@@sarcasticmcspastic Combiner Wars definitely had the issue of all the deluxes and voyagers being designed around combiner ports. For the deluxes, they were the central part of the figure and for the voyagers they wound up forcing there to only be 4-5 molds that they kept retooling. With the Onslaught/Hot Spot mold being the worst of the bunch. As for the Bee molds, at least they weren't as bad as Velocitron Cosmos. Even when it started showing up in discount stores like Ross, it was still hitting 100+ at resale.

Still hoping they repaint the Holiday one and add a missile trailer
Laser Prime= G2 Prime.
So you want... Earthrise Prime with a black trailer and big missile launchers?
Or are you thinking of a new Hero Prime/Sureshot..?
@@BrickerbrackI’d take either one at this point. But I’m really hoping for the G1 repaint version.
@@Gametester110-qf8vsYes Laser Prime is only one of many Primes that were in the G2 toy line.
Forget the definitive g1 prime I want the definitive knight prime
Legacy g1 prime is both cheaper than, and had better proportions to, the missing link optimus prime
I prefer Siege over Earthrise
The overall Optimus design I prefer is Bayverse 1-3 design. And the ROTB figure honestly is simple and preferred in terms of G! for Transformation
As a hardcore SS fan, I know this chug line can cook, especially when it come to SS86, SS86 is like their golden goose and they sadly be having the bayverse and gamer edition stuff as the middle child, like even bumblebee movie is getting amazing stuff
Gamerverse seems to really get messed up by the game weapons. For the most part, they look horrible and store awkwardly in both modes.
Dang, this comment section wanted SS86 Optimus Prime to be a completely different mold and all and it is, it’s not a remold of Earthrise it’s actually cartoon accurate
I have had about 15 different Primes in my collection over the years (including the G1 original). My favorite is MP-10. I did buy 3rd party articulated hands, a 3rd party gun, a 3rd party Roller over the years, but he's still fun and I feel nails the character best. But not everyone can get Masterpriece figures. Outside of that, I do love the Classics one from about 20 years ago; while not a perfect representation, he definitely gets points for style and cool factor.
If i had a shot for every time he said g1 or optimus prime, Id have liver failure

As a reviewer and youtuber your research on every one of the figures is waay off. Each figure despite how they were made served it's purpose for it's time.
How is it way off when I'm giving my own opinion on each figure backed up with physical evidence of flaws in design? If you love them that's fine but regardless of the time many of the complaints I stated on each release were even said when these figures first came out. It's not like I hated all of them in this list I said Earthrise, siege, and classics are still good. I don't think a figure like TR laser optimus,CW Optimus, or TR Powermaster Optimus ever served a purpose that was even remotely fulfilling as to what Hasbro intended due to the very obvious dumb decisions made that even when they first released people didn't like.
@@Chrisjaam, if it's how you feel then so be it. I see the releases much different that's all.
Got the 86 Prime earlier this week. Can confirm, it blows every other chug scale Optimus out of the water.
I really like when an Optimus figure's transformation is just arms goba ck, hands go into headlights, and legs flip and go back. No fake grills, no extra steps, no fake windshields (ew). Just simple, Optimus prime
Great video! I got the Henkel classics Optimus and others for my son about 10 years ago and used them for the toy line to go along with DVDs of the cartoon.
Even back then it was still a collector based line lol, seems like you can't handle any bit of criticism on something you love which is childish
Optimus Prime doesn't really have bad figures i have the siege primium version and its fun cool and a bit complex
Know Optimus Prime doesn't really have bad fighters
Even combiner wars i like the idea of Optimus Prime combining cuz he is a prime and match with his brother Nexus Prime now
Agen Optimus Prime doesn't have bad figures because his design is so simple that is what makes Optimus Prime more special he is definitely just too perfect you can't ask mutch more from him.
For a while there every truck it seemed was repainted as optimus just like every tank was repained into a megatron.
What are your thoughts on the Missing Link Optimus Prime and the Lego Optimus Prime?
Pretty cool for what they are, wish the lego had more leg articulation tho.
I just hope he has a real grill. Its been so long since he has one and its really unnecessary to have fake ones at this point.
Fr, it’s not like it gets disproportionate in the animation when he transforms unlike Hot Rod’s chest
I bought the bbts version of powermaster op and all the upgrades and legends god bomber. Its one of my favorite earthly possessions. I love your videos like this one. Keep em coming! Cheers!
It All Up To Your Favorites Optimus Prime Seeing Everyone Have A Favourite Prime Looks Like For Me TF One That Look So Good!
I've wanted hasbro to put optimus primes yellow axe and roller in the trailer with the perfect G1 figure for years now.
What is it with you and "toon accuracy"?? -_-
I gotta say for me the best G1 Optimus that scales with my other figures is the KBB MP-10V. I know it's 3rd party, but right now I think it's the best Voyager class Prime you can get, and for just $50 it might be the best Prime period.
Easy answer masterpiece mp 10 or 44 or magic square optimus

Go ahead
I have Missing Link Prime mixed in with my generations. The cartoon variant doesn't look out of place, especially when posed.
When is the ss commander suppose to come out ??
Earthrise was almost perfect.
Whatevere they cook with ss86 it will be the perfect optimus
I happen to love all of them. Especially evolution, earthrise, and one you didn’t cover yet, reactivate. I will say though, octane wore the TR mold way better than prime did
This is gonna be about unwarranted hype, isn't it?
........
Cause I was only talking about mainline American releases and not specialty Takara releases
I have bbm prime
What's coming this July?

Next video - Why SS86 Optimus Prime sucks.
Toyworld Primorion is a really underaprecciated figure
I agree

It's June
Ok? And ss86 optimus drops in July
How can you say that earthirse optimus prime is better then the siege optimus
None of those suck.
Siege Prime sucks. Earthrise was the best retail toy. If you are poor just get Masterpiece Prime without his trailer. Its worth it.
Siege optimus is better then earthrise
20:44
That trailer looks HORRIBLE.
Did bro just say siege prime is bad😠
Um no watch the video
Sorry, but you complain too much . Listening to you for half an hour was really a chore.
Well that was the point of the video. If you can't handle someone's opinion like a regular adult then just simply don't watch me
Dude the combiner wars power of the whatever toylines were so bad they made me fall off of collecting for like 5 years
I picked back up around earthrise after grabbing a hoist, night and day.
Emphatically disagreed
@shinzero0271 I agree it did help shape out a lot of characters who likely won't be seen for a good while
But man, that plastic quality throws me off still
I've got gen selects Black Zarrack, and one of the titans returns voyagers while the actual heads feel about the same, the plastic quality on the legacy transtector is just a massive step up in hand feel
I wish we got more full boxed sets in Combiner wars, I would've probably been more interested in that line specifically if hunting down all the fellas in a set wasn't it's own adventure (though I do know some folks find that fun)
I don't think alot of what hasbro did in the WFC trilogy was that great, leaders specifically are still a massive nitpick for me [man they are SMALL now i do not CARE FOR THE EXTRA BITS and they always seem to put the BIG NAMES at this pricepoint]
But I will say Voyagers and Delux's feel much more in line with what we had around the thrilling thirty line, if not a bit too g1 in some cases for me [basically %60 of earthrise]
Idfk what's going on with the bumblebee mold either, from cliffjumper to 86 bee he's just been super overpriced this whole time for how small he is.
Trust me, I'm not calling the current lines perfect
It's just the smathering of figures I've picked up have been pretty alright, and they've really gotten me back into collecting a good bit
