Always loved the Tamiya boxes with the crisp white background and a hand drawn/painted profile of the model, instead of the tacky busy background presentation on most modern stuff. Bet the smell of newness was so nice when you popped the seal! haha
I live in UK & bought a mountain rider last September, they are expensive but you only buy it once & they are lovely to build. I had an original back in the 89's. Enjoy the build. 👍
I was around 13-14 when this truck came out in the 80’s. My local hobby shop had it and I wanted it so bad because it had a 3 speed trans, big motor (750) and real leaf springs and axles. I cut lawns all summer to save up for it and the 4 channel radio needed to shift it. The axle gears were non-differential pot metal which stripped easily and the spur gear in the trans has a ball bearing slipper clutch which was also weak. I assumed that’s why they changed the trans and diffs. Also, the original trans was non-serviceable (although I had it apart several times) but you couldn’t get parts for it. BTW, I still have it. I had the entire chassis and trans chrome plated and the body painted and cleared by a body shop.
I wanted one so bad. I would stare at pictures of it in the RC Car Action magazines. I never got one. Really want one of these re releases but might wait for a sale.
Nice to meet you!! from japan.By the way,I bought the "TAMIYA,s"TOYOTA4x4 bruiser.I chose a full range of options such as paint + led lights, slipper clutch, waterproof servo, and 2-piece reinforced wheels, so it was a luxury purchase for a total of about $ 1000.However, since the lower part is mostly metal, it seems to be durable in the "lifetime" class, so it was a very good purchase !!
Michael Dack lol... I’m already catching heat from friends about how I’m never going to run it lol... It’s one of those kits that you put so much time and effort into and one roll over and the body is ruined.
Bruiser.. that was a dream when I was 13. I wanted the Bruiser, one of those Miss Budweiser hydroplane nitro boats w/ OS engine, and that crazy-ass Jaco Jackrabbit thing ;) lol
Hello. I had one when I was younger, paid $350 from a friend. Now I got the HG - P407 a knock-off from Bruiser and parts fit dead on 👍. Shapeways sell (2) parts for the steering, putting steering servo in front giving RC awesome steering. I'm super pleased with mine, in the process of putting a custom bed liner with strips of balsa wood and metal rods 👍
I bought one years ago, probably was one of the first ones out. Paid over $600 for it. I never used it much and the universal joints on the drive shaft wear out fast. Brought it on to Colorado one year on vacation and went to wife’s Grandma’s old farm. I also brought the Ford Blackfoot too. We went to her Grandma’s farm and to the dry creek which was very sandy. The Toyota Bruiser was worthless in the sand. It was so heavy it just sank in the sand. The Ford Blackfoot was light and loved the sand. Was hoping to see a rattle snake to have some fun with. None to be found. The Toyota had to be assembled piece by piece. Assemble the differentials with the gears and small bearings , transmission piece by piece, shocks, leaf springs, everything. I still have it,, thinking about selling it and the Blackfoot.
I have the original one from 1985 it was 500.00 back then so thats a deal now she is just a shelf queen did a frame up resto polished every thing now it looks brand new
Yeah. Facebook messenger. It's literally 10 out of every 12 ads I see on my phone,(I actually counted after months of annoying repetition) no matter what I am using my phone for at the time. It even happened again as I was typing this. I've tried four different ad blockers, none worked.
Oh man that sucks. I only monetize some of my videos and choose ads at the beginning. However, I was just made aware by RUclips that they will now being inserting videos automatically throughout the video if you choose to monetize. Now they are not even giving creators a choice of where to insert ads.
@@RCRetro I understand that you need the ads to support your awesome channel, and I'm cool with that. I just felt the need to vent about every app, video, etc. showing the same ad so often. It's not your fault, it's probably whoever Zuckerberg hired to do their advertising.
I had the same issue as I was building it. I took my gearbox apart 2 times and rebuilt it. Really took my time and meticulously went step by step until it worked smoothly. Can’t say exactly what I did that made it better.
Yeah I think you got it when it was on sale that was $400 but I was wrong I guess I hope there's ball bearings in the transmission. Also you should know they have a Hilux of the modern one that is out today with an homage to the Bruiser meaning of safe decal sheet for it on a cc01 chassis.
Hey you should go to Tenaya USA more often you'll find out that you'll get a lot more deals than you think for a lot cheaper for certain cars then you would from a hobby store.
Yes I've been doing my research since I created the video. I see that.. but I'm not ready to buy a another remote until the times comes when I build this.
Sorry not happening. Think this is staying stock with the GT tuned motor... Out of the 40 RCs I have only 3 are brushless.... Super Astute, King Cab with stealth Transmission and an RC10 Worlds Car.....
These cars look good but perform so badly that its actually shocking. Nowadays youre far better off with a rc4wd or any other chassis and just buy an abs hilux body.
I think for its time... way back when.. the 3 speed transmission was pretty cool...Its definitely a quality build.. might not be as capable as the scale trail trucks or rock crawlers of today... Most of us who get these today are picking them up for nostalgia or for shelf queens. Yes this kit is more like a high grade model with moving pieces lol if that makes sense.. Just putting the 3 speed transmission together was an experience that I greatly enjoyed.
I purchased mine from tamiyaUSA at $500. Tamiya started off as a static model company and then went into RC. This is a mix of both if that makes sense. This a trail truck and not meant to go faster and is not a "rock crawler". That is why they advise you in the manual to keep the stock silver can in it and not put anything else. Perhaps people have put other motors in it but for me I'm good with how it is. Thanks for your comment and support.
OMG ! I CANT BELIEVE the price of this ?? $939 on AMAIN , i have this , also the HG P407 clone with metal gears $200 i also have Traxxas Summit 1/10 $499, PLEASE ! TAKE MY ADVICE , buy a faffing Traxxas Summit ! its 10 times the car , man save up another little bit and buy a Traxxas TRX4 as well , i promise you will thank me later , if it has to be this trash , then do yourself a favour and buy the HG P407 , at least this has metal gears and you could buy 3 or 4 of them for what this trash costs ! HONESTLY , OVER PRICED MUCK !
I got my Bruiser for $500 from Tamiya USA who had a flash sale. $500 is still pricey but not as bad as $939. Your right, and I"ll probably get a HG407 or the HGP410 at some point. I got the Traxxas TRX-6 Mercedes when it first came out and put out a video on it. Made an obstacle course in my yard. I used it 2x after that and then sold it. Hi, Fond memories of this kit ! I bought the original back in the day, I still have it in my loft !
Good choice! I love all my three speed Tamiya's. You will love building this and enjoy it over the years. I'll always have mine.
Bruiser.. that was a dream when I was 13. I wanted the Bruiser, one of those Miss Budweiser hydroplane nitro boats w/ OS engine, and that crazy-ass Jaco Jackrabbit thing ;) lol

My dream RC too. I hope hobby stores would still have those at the same price by the time I replenished my piggy bank. 😄
500 is a nice deal for a Tamiya Bruiser. I bought the Tamiya Mountain Rider for around that price from RC Mart. I enjoy your videos .
Nice to know there are other Tamiya “FREAKS” in the world besides me!! 😀👍🏾
Haha i think RC has consumed my life...

Nice Kit 😎👍🏻
RC Action Australia thanks buddy... I’d like to get this built sometime in the fall...
So freaking awesome
Hey dude, I’m looking for your video on the final assembly/painting of the Bruiser, but I can’t find it. ☹️
You want a Futaba Conquest radio for the bruiser that is the standard .
John Costa I would definitely be interested...
I'm with ya brother, I don't want a modal unless it's a kit and is R/C including airplanes!
hi i found your vids while building my brusier but have a real problem with gearbox sticking between gears do you have any advice ?
I had the same issue as I was building it. I took my gearbox apart 2 times and rebuilt it. Really took my time and meticulously went step by step until it worked smoothly. Can’t say exactly what I did that made it better.
Sweet clodbuster
harry dods hmm..might be one in the future....anything is possible..
Get one already id rather drive that then this 🤣
Ryan Seacrest doppelgänger 🤣
The fred dude worked at Tamiya, he should know lol.
Box art or Fall guy decals from mci?
Peter Renaud I was a fan of the Fall Guy but... I do like the Box Art more i think..
Build video please
How much was it just round about
Hey you might be able to get those metal gears for the transmission as an option and of course there are motorcycle still turn those gears days.
I saw that sale too, but since I am more of a mountaineer fan, and I bought one in 2014, decided against it. $500 shipped is a STEAL.
Hey you should go to Tenaya USA more often you'll find out that you'll get a lot more deals than you think for a lot cheaper for certain cars then you would from a hobby store.
I smell like grasshopper tires because of you. Lol
Gotta smell them!
You know you can get pistol grip radios that have a lot of channels on it you don't need a stick one necessarily.
Yes I've been doing my research since I created the video. I see that.. but I'm not ready to buy a another remote until the times comes when I build this.
Show lunchbox stuff
$500 damn I paid $289.99 plus tax for mine in January of 1986.
I hope you take that to your friends track and run it in four-wheel drive and two wheel drive too.
Six minutes into a 14 minute video and still no unboxing.
Thanks for your comment and support. I hope that when you finally got the unboxing portion of the video you enjoyed it. Be well.
I hope on the Avante you will put a high kV brushless motor on it.

Did you get that why it was on sale for $400 from Tamiya?
I don't know if a chassis going to take you the longest I think the transmission is.
I think you are right. The transmission seems very complex.
Why does this truck still cost 900+ dollars in 2021
That's a very complex kit it is going to take you a long time to put together I do think you can get it to do 20mph in 3rd gear.
'
this tamiya toyota truck must be 200 and not 700
when I purchased it... I think it was $500..
You mean cellophane and it came out earlier than 85 I think.
Tamiyabase has it listed as "released 1985"
If you’re gonna modernize the gearbox why not have a better motor? What a weird thing to cheap out on with a $1400 toy.
