HG made the re release kits for tamiya. After a while, they released it for themselves , hooray for them for doing it, otherwise I’d never have been able to afford one. I really love 💕 my hG407 tamiya bruiser. You need wheel speed to stay on top of the sand and not bog down. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧

These trucks are really worth the money. I had several in the past and they work great, especially when you do the front steering servo mod and adjust the shifting servo 👍. A little tip,if you can find the actual bruiser complete differential gear set (you need the differential outer and internal gears) you can use the rc4wd 12mm conversion. The bruiser diff gears go right in with zero modifications. I done it to all my P407's when I had them, lol

@@TomleyRC not a problem always glad to help out when I can on rc stuff. But with the diff mod,you only need it for the rear axle as the rc4wd conversion doesn't need new diffs for the front. HG uses a flat ended axle shaft so unless you want to go the extra mile and expense and install actual tamiya diffs in the front, you will need the tamiya axle shaft as well, lol.

  • @69Dartman
    @69Dartman 4 года назад +3

Well the suspension is now probably a bit closer to what the real trucks were like. My buddy had a 85 with I think the Last of the straight axles up front and when it was working hard in the snow when it was new the front end bounced just like that in deep fresh wet snow on the mountain here. So it's actually pretty similar except his didn't have huge tires, just the stockers. My other buddy had a 82 just like that he had really big tires on it. I never was in it when he did anything heavy duty with it but considering it drove well on the freeway. Pretty sure he had one of the bruisers as that was the time they were around. I had one of the toy Radio Shack versions with proportional steering and high and low range. No suspension but it had a lot of torque in low range and was really surprising what it could run over and through. Used D cells and we all used the high capacity ones Radio Shack used to sell.
I bet they have all kinds of better shocks and suspension upgrades for that thing by now.

  • @ValleyRC

    Thanks for plugging the group!
My personal thoughts are like you own pretty much. I needs a few things doing mechanically but but it can all be done cheaply. You can easily buy one and make it as good an original for 1/3 the price. I never, ever would have purchased a Bruiser, away too much money for my to justify and if I was to spend that much, I would be buying something more versatile like an X-Maxx!
But for £150 it's definitely worth a punt, I think it's best to just see it as a semi kit that needs finishing off!
I mostly use mine for walking the trails and footpaths around me. I took 2 of the 3 springs out of each corner and while it's no flex monster, it's a lot better and can hobble over some quite rough terrain with the diffs locked. Not a pro crawler but it can certainly make it's way along most trails and forest paths etc.
There's a fella on RUclips called Dennis Dempsey who works on cars for a living, proper old school improviser and he's done some amazing things with these trucks. One of my favourites is the modification to make it full time 4WD in all 3 gears! He put one of those Toyan 4 stroke engines in one too, check him out if you get 5 minutes!

    • @TomleyRC

That is ALL due to the suspension stiffness which can be changed to works as a suspension should. Many pickups right like hell empty but load them up with 50 sheets of plywood and they ride like a cadillac. My 1/2 ton 4 x 4 is no different. Rides much better with a load on.

Another R/C RUclipsr did a deep dive and found the Tamiya body vs the HG body had different mold release pin markings, etc. And the Tamiy Bruiser box says Made in Japan, for whatever that's worth. Some things on this truck definitely need fixing and are a result of it being Chinese and cheap but a lot of the shoddy aspects are inherited directly from the Tamiya such as the loose steering.

Note: they wouldn't have to get hold of the molds to duplicate the bruiser. They can reverse engineer complete full size vehicles so they can easily do this. With 3d scanners now you just scan the part, import into Fusion 3d, and extract the gcode and put a blank into a mill. They'd rough cut out the mold, then pay some guy $20 to polish and finish it.
As I said in another thread, I could replicate the mold for a lexan body for just about any vehicle with a cnc machine I built. Now these ones, they are injection molded and the mold would be massive but labour is cheap in China so it isn't a big deal over there.
To give you an idea in the difference in cost between USA and China: I needed some special gears for my CNC. I contacted a place in the USA: $2500 each. F that!
I contacted a supplier in China; oh so sorry, we don't have the tool to cut that pressure angle, we have to buy.
Me: ok, price it out for me anyways.
Them a few days later: Oh so sorry, we have to charge $29 for all 4 plus $15 shipping.
Me: Thank you, here's my order.
Now they were a little rough when they came in and needed some work with a file to deburr them but $29/4 China vs $10,000/4 usa.

Do not buy the RTR version. Buy the kit version. The controller it comes with is of very poor quality; inside the solder connections are terrible. The battery it comes with is made out of two cheap li-ion 18650 cells. The cells in my pack were dotted with rust marks!!! The kit version is cheaper, and you for know sure that it's built right when you construct it yourself. So far my truck runs great, but since I didn't build it I'm not quite 100% sure. . .

No surprise...you get what you pay for. I’ve been a Tamiya fan/owner for 30+ years. People who have never purchased a new Tamiya.......have no clue what they are missing(we won’t even talk about replacement parts/upgrades).....Tamiya are just Tangibly better😎...........

Yes & No.... You say you get what you pay for, but do you really think the Real Bruiser is worth 4 times the price? Electronics on this are crap yes, I expect the metal/materials are a little less quality, but I don't think Tamiya have priced the Bruiser fairly. Anyway, appreciate the comment, I like to hear other peoples opinions

No Tamiya. So this is nothing. I paid my Tamiya Bruiser 700 euros and I am proud of that. The real one only. Clone is clone.

Can you upgrade these alot? There is a couple who have one for sale for 200 bucks they said they could never just put it together I was thinking of offering them like 150 see if they take it. I have a bunch of 3650 Motors and a ton of extra batteries that kind of stuff. And this is like the only kind of truck I don't have I think it'd be fun
