THX for a very informative session video. It helped a lot for my build. Once again thx and keep up the good work my friend. Take care and Regards. JJ Kruger
The bruiser is the ultimate original king. Your in a small group of owners . Pretty cool icon. I've had 2 and honestly they can still hold there own with any production rc kit. Change the tires and set up the suspension and it's a 40 year old design that is still capable. Just iconic
I won this model in 1986 from a local hobby shop. I was 10 years old at the time, and built it with no help. The truck gave hours of entertainment. I see these listed on Amazon for 800 or so, tempted but quite costly to relieve childhood memories.
@@RCRetro No, I have only one. But If they werent so expensive....? Or If I were richer? Or If my wife was richer? So many options 😂. (I have to ask my wife, where she has savings.)
I wanted one of these so badly as a kid, but it was just too expensive for my parents. I'm really tempted to buy this kit, but one of the things that attracted me to it, was that it was built like a tank! With the change from metal differential gears to plastic, it makes me wonder how well those will hold up against a really powerful electric motor, or if you could get a gas engine for it.
I had this truck when it was released back in the day I remember it was pretty pricey too! I think my parents paid close to $400 that was a lot of money back then.. Ahhh memories!
I bought the Tamiya Re release Mountain Rider that I need to get started on one day. Been in box for almost 2 years now LOL... saving the excitement I guess
Great video. I got one in a box that needs to be put together. Are you using the little flat headed screw driver to apply the thread lock. Genius idea.....I never thought of doing that
Why do people think this is a crawler or a trail truck? Per 80’s Tamiya literature, the Bruiser is a truck “built in the spirit of Southern California mud bog tucks.” One would think the motto Hog Heaven, with a Hog in mud and a halo, would give it away 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
The name of the music is Inception by Aakash Gandhi. It can be found in RUclips studio under free music to be used so that there are no copyright issues. Enjoy
What kind of work do u do for a living? Anything mechanical? Have u ever worked on a full size truck or any kind of motor vehicles? If so it pretty close to that. Older ones r anyways
Nothing mechanical lol… I’m in the education field. My brother in law is a mechanic, plumber, electrician so I learn things along the way. We both would like to get a real vintage muscle car one day to restore.
Hi, I cannot find nor afford the Tamiya bruiser bearing kit so will be using what I presume are 'Oilite bushes - any problems using the supplied bushes/bearings on a model that will not be run very much? thanks
It’s a 3 speed transmission. So yes. Off the top of my head I can’t remember what the 3 speeds are but I do know two of them are 2wd and 4wd. Not sure the 3rd. Possibly 2wd or 4wd low…
Having trouble with the bruiser transmission not shifting into the gears I’ve took the transmission apart like five times now and I can’t figure out why it’s not shifting gears
I took mine apart at least 2 times when building it over a year ago. All I remember is something about the little balls LOL... I know that sounds silly... When holding the built transmission in my hand, the rod was locked up and not moving or sliding in and out. That was after the first time building it. Then I took the whole thing apart maybe 2 more times carefully going over each part and crossing it out in the manual with a pencil. Each time it did the same thing... The rod would lock up and not shift or slide back in. Then I dropped the tranny In the chassis connected the servo to it with the radio gear and it started to shift from 2wd low to high and 4wd. works now.... did you try it out with the servo's yet?
@@RCRetro it took it apart more than 5times transmission case broke the first time where the single bearing goes at end of the shaft that is facing the motor
Yeah this thing is definitely not that much of a Rock Crawler..... it's more or less a highy realistic scale radio controlled vehicle that does mud and snow really well and the occasional rock crawling. In addition the little it can do in the rock is not very linear or precise and it's kind of rough on the truck considering the steering servo is in the bed and there's a long metal rod that actually connects that servo to the front steering knuckle. Basically it should be compared to buying a Toyota Hilux pick up truck off the showroom floor throwing a big V-8 engine between the frame rails, bolting on lift, 40" tires, and trying to go Off-Roading with it. It's 100% just like that!!!
@@alerossi8564 I call it a trail truck because it has the 3 speed transmission that many of the modern trail trucks and rock crawlers have today. That is why I refer to it as "one of the original trail trucks."
If u have to wait until spring to paint a RC body for me it would be time to move a little further down south! Because that's just ridiculous! There's no way I would live in an environment like that! And if I did. I would make me a booth with a vent system if it was just a dryer vent pipe with a box and AC filter. That or build me a shed outside with a heater inside of it.

The Bruiser was amazing back then & still is! I also Really like the Mountain Rider! Tamiya Rocks!
Wow. What an interesting looking chassis. Fascinating.
Love you video format! Really makes me want to build one too!
This is one of my dream trucks. I'm looking up kits now 😂
Do it! Buy it! lol
@@RCRetro haha, it's out of stock everywhere.. Awesome build by the way!👍
Just a great truck! Unique technic, and very durable! Forget trx 4 ( got one ) or trailfinder ( just not durable!) One of the best rc car of all time!

I LIKED IT AND LOT
Looking good! When you do the body install the Tamiya light controller and leds. iT raises the wow factor alot and a driver figurer.
I wanted one of those so damn bad.
Treat yourself bud! You only live once.
Don Dagy - Me too. I just bought a vintage one used on E bay.
Yeah , I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but it’s going to be awesome when it’s done
Thanks for the comment. Easy...? definitly not.. challenging/rewarding more like it.
I always regret not getting one of these when my local had them with a 3 Channel remote combo for $800 AUD
Wow, I wish it was that price now! 😂
You are enjoying that one, do you? It is beautiful and addictive build. If they weren't so expensive, I'd buy a few more.
You got a few of these? Damn, one is enough for me lol..

Que servos recomiendas ponerle a este bruiser?
Let’s race it against my G-Wagon 6X6!! 👍👍

Golden Manuever probably because that’s what you see are mostly crawlers nowadays, back in the 80s it was monster trucks .
I thought cr01 was tough now the leaf springs with these its crazy
Ok...I gotta ask... What's the music at the beginning of the chassis build?

What's the red grease? what does it use for?
The red stuff is thread lock. You use it on the metal screws to prevent them from backing out of metal pieces.
Are the leaf springs themselves plastic or metal? Thanks for the vid.
Is this model go from 2wd to 4wd

How much did you pay for it
Too much lol... TamiyaUSA had them for $500 USD back in the spring
I think they should have kept all the metal gears. And kept the the pull out at the hub locking hub design. From the earlier design from 82-85.
You know you can lock the diffs on it.
Can you use shoe goo for it?

wish want one tamiya bruiser but wrong over currency tag...
not worth it...
better one HG P407 than tamiya bruiser
Tamiya stuff was delicate hobbiest crap compared to Radio Shack stuff of the time
That is $50 worth of Chinese manufactured parts. Fight me.
