City was in league 2 or 3 at the time when my dad visited England back in 1990s. He was kind of free & his colleagues who were from manchester took him to a city game, his words were " I'm surprised how many fans a club coud have like those when a giant club from that city actually exists". In the 1930s, Manchester City reached two consecutive FA Cup finals, losing to Everton in 1933, before claiming the Cup by beating Portsmouth in 1934.[15] During the 1934 run, the club broke the record for the highest home attendance of any club in English football history, as 84,569 fans packed Maine Road for a sixth-round FA Cup tie against Stoke City - a record which stood until 2016.
Research carried out by Manchester City in 2005 estimated a fanbase of 886,000 in the United Kingdom and a total in excess of 2 million worldwide, although since the purchase of the club by Sheikh Mansour and City's recent achievements, that figure has since ballooned to many times that size.

People that are comparing City to Chelsea forget that Chelsea prior to Abramovich were a club consistently in the top 4-6 winning multiple FA Cups and European Cup Winners Cups. Abramovich was the golden era but Chelsea did have success prior with players like Wise, Zola, Desailly, Vialli yet still faced this level of criticism if not more being the first ones. Even today rivals banter Chelsea about prior to 2003.

It is probably true that they might get less excited for a trip to Wembley than say Newcastle for example. I can’t imagine PSG is much different since they are essentially guaranteed to win the league so their only focus is the champion’s league. One of the many valid reasons for criticizing the Super League is the fact that seeing some of the big clubs play week in week out will lose that magic you get from earning your place in a tournament. City fans have just seen more success in recent years than any of us can fathom.

Having said that we are happy with the amount of fans we have, very happy. However, as time goes on, there will be, without question, people who can only relate to the history of City post-takeover. Here, City is held by ESPN and other sports media in just as much regard as United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea because they’re always winning championships. I think the reason why people dislike city (including me) is because their growth is not organic. Since they were bought, the amount of money they have is much bigger than all the the other big clubs except maybe Chelsea. Not only that, they continuously are investigated and accused of breaking the FFP rules. A smaller team like Leicester winning the league is one of the most amazing things that can happen. A relatively small club getting bought out and suddenly dominating the league for 6 years due to the ability to spend so much money that they can have injuries and underperforming players and still be able to replace them from the bench. The same goes for PSG and all the other teams that just get invested billions in, start winning and then say "why are people not happy for us"..

Like, when your clubs were successful, they had the most money outta all the other clubs, especially united, and leached out all the top players from the other clubs namely law, cantona rio and keane. City have used the investment by the Abu dhabi group the best they could, growing the stadium and the facilities around the stadium, and now are reaping the benefits of their investment with success in terms of trophies and as well as overall profit. I cannot understand how people intend to explain the success of their clubs without the influx of money. Think of it as being at school, you have a kid that's fought hard to get where they are gets accepted into a prestigious university and are on track to doing well for themselves. Then look at it from the point of view of a kid who has had everything given to them. They still work hard, they get the same results as the kid before but because they've not had to struggle in the same way it's a less impressive feat right? As much as I hate United being a Liverpool fan I respect what the club has done to get where they are. I don't hate city and I actually really like their squad as its full of great personalities and talents, but the club itself doesn't feel right, it's synthetic almost, like a dystopian future where everything is shiny and clean. I think their Saudi Arabian take over put a giant * on every accomplishment the modern era of City. Aside from City fans, quite literally every other fan regardless of league or club don’t view city in that same light of other historic clubs even if their achievements are comparable. Hispanics here in my state (Arizona) admire their football and players, myself included, but we have little respect for the club overall. Similarly to how we view Madrid and Barcelona although not as harshly as many Hispanics are aware of their history dating back to the 60’s or even back further. The Hispanic football community generally held respect to Barcelona and Madrid’s dominant eras because it still felt semi-natural and they could respect those clubs partially (due to La Liga’s clear bias to those 2 clubs at the time). But Manchester city to our community is such an anomaly. We move on quickly in daily discourse from them when in contrast, we would speak of Madrid and Barcelona for weeks on end about their recent games in the mid 2000’s up to late 2010’s.

I'd disagree(about the lack of celebration)
Don't think I ever saw Old Trafford get tired of success
Everyone takes a dig at city because they didn't earn where they are they bought their way into the top of the table just like chelsea did
You can talk however you want about the effort and money it takes to stay up at the top but again *they never earned where they are they just shoved money at it over and over and over again*
Don't think I've ever seen Barca or Madrid or Bayern or PSG fans get "tired" of winning either
The idea that they shouldn't be celebrating scoring against a championship side in a match they expect to win when it's a match that gives them the possibility of more silverware is silly, but Pep and his players have already proven they don't have a winners mentality(except for KDB) so I don't really expect them to respect every comp or put in as much energy and effort into every win.
They spent their way to the top finally reaching it properly when the Prem took a massive dive in quality due to financial meltdowns and a massive shift in not just administration but rules ownerships and even playstyles so they have basically only had what 3 arguably 4 opponents for the past near decade? Pretty easy to win silverware when you don't have a lot of clubs that are up to the task of even fighting for the top of the table let alone winning it, they also never won a CL despite all that time of supposed "dominance". It's almost like the Prem's quality had dipped so when they went to europe and weren't the biggest kid on the block anymore they got shown up or something

Of course Manchester United would sell out Wembley. United fans love Wembley, means they don't have travel from Surrey all the way up to Manchester to see a game!
The City Fanbase stuff is crap. City fans are great. They don't have the same global following (despite what the some of City's directors numbers might suggest) but they have a fantastic fanbase in Manchester and always have done.
Chelsea and City both get hit with a bunch of shit because they got money from rich blokes rather then doing it "properly" from fans of clubs that "did it properly" but ultimately its sour grapes. Those fans generally don't want to admit that they also spent shit loads of money. If they do "well its different cos we earned it". Because you happened to get lucky and have a successful period right as the Premier League started to peak. And I'm an Arsenal fan, we rode that wave. We got lucky, we happened to get a bit of investment into the team and club just as the Premier League started to go global and its because of that we were able to invest into the stadium etc that means we are there or thereabouts in terms of infastructure to compete long term.
But if you didn't happen to be able to ride that wave, without the big investment theres no way you'd have ever caught up. Frankly, because Arsenal had to go frugal due to the stadium, the money into Chelsea and City SAVED the Premier League. If that had not happened, United would have gone Bayern. With no competition fianacially, they would have just bought hte best players from all hte english teams every season, solidified there place as the biggest team and stomped on everyones throats and there would have been no competing with it. Chelsea and the money they got stopped that from happening, and then City joined the party.
Honestly, if City were vastly outspending everyone in the league, I'd understand it more. But they aren't. Thier wage budget wasn't even the highest in the league at the start of the season (That was United.) I think its typically hypocritcal of football fans to sit their complaining about the money other teams spend when they are spending just as much.

@@Lucas-pg2lo To comply with FFP. FFP, which is sounds like a fantastic fair idea, but actually just acts to preserve the status quo, keeping the big teams big and stopping anyone else from being able to match them.
All the allegations regarding City ((now at least)) revolve around them inflating income. In the early days there was some hiding of wages, but that sort of manipulation is far to easy to find and prove so they have shifted to inflating income as that is far easier to hide.
I couldn't really care less about them inflating income to allow them to spend the same amount as the biggest clubs. FFP is a broken system thats never realistically going to be enforcable with the current ownership models of multiple clubs and even if it was, won't achieve the aims of making football fair to all. Spending money is spending money. If City were sitting shelling out 15mil a week on wages whilst the next biggest teams were on 5mil, then sure, its an issue. But they aren't. They are spending as much on wages as United and Chelsea, and a little more then Liverpool. They just do it better then United and Chelsea because they actually have quality people at the top of the club running it rather then the absolute shitshows at United and Chelsea.
