As a spurs fan I want to give my opinion on why spurs can’t win anything:
    1. The mentality:
The mentality in the club right now is that European football is success. Throughout the club- the board, owners, players and a large amount of fans.
    2. The incompetence of the board:
Daniel Levy has been our chairman for 23 years. In that time we have had more stadiums than trophies and one successful manager.
    3. Recruitment:
Our recruitment is awful. We spent 150 mill this summer and none of them have been successful so far
    4. Fans
A lot of the fans have the mentality that I spoke of earlier: top four is success. A lot of them also refuse to criticise the owners and the board because ‘there is worse’.
I’d say the fault is mainly of the chairman who has managed to turn Tottenham, one of the most respected teams in England, into a laughing stock.
As Keith Burkinshaw said: ‘there used to be a football club there, now it’s just a business’

    • @Vizeh

There‘s nothing we can really do about the owners, and we’ve gone forward up until 2018
Then we’ve just been chasing “quick fix” for a trophy, by hiring these volatile and defensive managers. We don’t have any real style or philosophy as a result, and this massively hurts us in cup competitions
I just think we need an ETH, De Zerbi, someone like that to make us fun to watch again, it’s been years man

It has a semblance to the decline of Athletic Bilbao since the 1980s in the men's game and the mid-2010s for the women's game. The bad news of Tottenham is Levy is the chairman, the good news is it's not a pile of self-sabotaging fans who will keep a policy of Basque and Navarrese nationalism even if it means relegation controlling the board. Although, I wonder if Bilbao would have invested so much into facilities and coaching if it wasn't for the bizarre policy to trying to make a region the population of Uruguay produce multiple La Liga teams worth of top flight quality players.

It's the board that has been the issue, even if Jose lost that final to City (doubt he would), he would've won something for Spurs in the next season. Levy wants to make money out of the club, if he truly cared about it, I think Spurs would've won something that wasn't the Audi Cup.

  • @Aer0dynam1cc

As an Ajax-fan, that 2018-19 UCL season is just painful to watch, but three things that stick out:
    1) Too much focus on finishing top 4 and chasing UCL success instead of (even for only one season) maybe completely prioritising domestic cups would alleviate a lot of pressure in terms of trophies, even if it's "just" a League Cup. You can start building a winning mentality with that;
    2) Failure does seem to run in the club's DNA if you look at Man Utd this season winning a League Cup when they were in complete shambles before the start (and even at the start) of the season but with a few key signings (ETH, Casemiro, Martinez, Antony and even Weghorst) winning a trophy nonetheless, thus ending Utd's (much shorter) trophy drought; and
    3) Who the f*ck thought it was a good idea to sack Jose before the final? If it's one thing that man has proven is that he knows how to win finals.

Every season we start off quite optimistic, we will win a few games and people think wow Spurs might actually do something and then midway through the season all hope of that is diminished. It's been a never ending cycle like this for years now. And it sucks for us as fans because we want to see the team win trophies like you would being a fan of every other team. We never asked to be like this. This season has turned a lot of fans away from watching the club play on tv or attending games. Each season we are fed the same bs by the board about how we are going in the right direction and we need patience. But the fans have been patient for 20 years and won nothing but a Carabao Cup.

Conte spoke the truth: “The players are used to failure, they are selfish, in fact they have a loser Mentality“ . This club has many world class mangers like me, The club gives the players too much money , players who show no sense of responsibility, for me this is unacceptable, because this is the first time in my career to see a situation like this, the situation here is becoming worse because the players are used to losing and they accept losing Because that’s the way this club is been ran, to find excuses for the players, who have No confidence, no spirit, the players and I are professionals, this is why the club pays us a lot of money , but the players show nothing to deserve.
    The History :
“The history of the Tothnemn is the same owner with no friends, never win something, is always blame the manger, always protect the players , he (Daniel Levy) will protect everyone and destroy a mangers future, he wants Beyoncé to stay here more than anything! In result of this lack of financial backing makes good managers look away, which means we can’t get a solid project down,
    3. Lack of recruitment options,

Anyway sacking Mourinho right before a cup final was baffling. In time we will maybe get an answer to why since it made no sense. If anything it just killed all momentum and it has probably haunted them since.

I was able to know about the reason why Tottenham Hotspurs didn't win anything than the 2008 Football League Cup. When I watched the videos from "What If? Football", I realized that the 2005-06 Premier League was a precursor for the future failure. Despite exiting two cup competitions too early at the hands of Grimsby Town and Leicester City (who were in EFL Championship at that time before the historic Premier League season exactly a decade later with Claudio Ranieri and Jamie Vardy), Spurs had a relatively consistent results in the Premier League, which saw them sitting in fourth place ahead of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, after both sides had an identical results, including a double 1-1 draw at two North London derbies. In the last game, Spurs only need to defeat West Ham United without relying on their big rivals' result at Highbury (the last one for Arsenal's old stadiums) against Wigan Athletic.
However, before the last game of Premier League commenced, it is revealed that most of Spurs players were refused to play because they were hit by strange illness relating to the lasagne poisoning. Spurs wanted to postpone the game to allow recovery, but the Premier League rejected it because the last games must be played simultaneously and not higher than evening to prevent hooliganism. At the end, Spurs lost 1-2 and Arsenal won 4-2, with Spurs' Champions League qualification seemingly assured at the end of halftime because Arsenal were still 1-2 down.
If Spurs managed to score the winning goal instead of West Ham at the end of the game, the outcome of future will be changed like this:
1.Spurs will play in the Champions League football and managed to reach the last 8, where they lost to eventual runners up Liverpool, after beating (in order of competitions stages) Dinamo Zagreb, CSKA Moscow, Hamburg (assuming that Spurs will follow Arsenal's path in real life). However, they still failed to qualify for the Champions League the next season after finishing fifth in 2006/07 Premier League.
2.Arsenal will play in UEFA Cup, given that they also lost 1-2 to Barcelona in the final, but somehow, they managed to end the European trophy drought after beating Espanyol in the final held at Glasgow. They also secured the fourth place of Premier League at the same season and immediate return to Champions League.
3.Spurs might win 3 Football League Cups during that period in 2007, 2008, and 2015. The 2009 one remains intact with a defeat.
4.Spurs will play in the Champions League for 2012/13 season because Chelsea failed to win the Champions League 2011/12 after losing to Bayern Munich, which means Europa League qualification for Chelsea (proved immaterial because Chelsea failed to defend the Champions League title by finishing third below Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk, but still won the Europa League the same year).

I wouldn't pretend to know what they should have done, but it is obvious that they could have carried momentum in the mid 2010's when they were on the rise, while all other big 6 teams were out of contention. Man United had just fallen from grace after a very long run of success and needed time to rebuild, Man City had ended its first era under UAE ownership and would have a 3 years spell with less success, Liverpool wasn't back on top yet, Arsenal was a bit sterile, and Chelsea was good but unreliable.
At that point they should have built up on their rise to the top and won several titles. Pochettino was doing so great. This was Tottenham's occasion to rise as one of the very best european clubs, and a EPL title contender in 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and be in the fight with City and Liverpool once they were back on top.
It's hard to explain I must say, because I think Pochettino did a great job and they could have done more.
Maybe the stadium wasn't at the right time actually, a bit like for Arsenal it made them fall from grace.

Clearly having managers like Mourinho and Conte the manager has been there, the players aren’t.
