The intro screen where the commandos jump out of the plane always reminded me of the view out of my window growing up! Just a generic cityscape at night with random lights, peppering the skyline 😊
Differences between Famicom and NES: NES version had no secret passages, less forgiving hitboxes, 3 shots per weapon (but no ammo retention between stages, and no stacking beyond 3 shots), soldiers have less sensational die animations, fewer sound effects in general, fewer karate soldiers from left side of screen, final boss much easier (no left-hand-side spawns).
In the "good guys" base: "We will send on this deadly mission a soldier only armed with a knife!" Meanwhile at the enemy base: "It's simple, we will jump kick him to death!"
In East Asia languages, blue and green are same word. So this is just a mistranslation. Example, Guan Yu is descripted use "blue glaive" in old documents, but modern franchises usually give him green cloth and green glaive.
Quite surprised to see each of the weapon guys only give you one shot for the bazooka at a time. And you keep the ammo from one stage to another? Wow. And thank you SO MUCH for uploading this. I heard a rumor years ago about being able to go down ladders after blowing up mines. I went through Rush N Attack backwards and forwards and never found it. I didn't know that secret was in Green Beret instead!
Actually this is the Japanese version on the Famicom (Japanese NES), which utilized memory cards rather than cartridges. Also, the U.S. version was called "Rush 'n' Attack", although the arcade version was still called "Green Beret".
When detonating those landmines there are underground passages at 3:10 , 8:05 & 10:54 which was removed on the NES version's Rush'n Attack. The NES version is also more difficult. It is as difficult as after beating this Famicom version Green Beret it goes back to the beginning but this time more enemies.
Notable arcade differences: No co-op mode, more standard soldier types (bazooka, grenadier, crawler, paratrooper, mortar launcher), different weapon setups (no pistol or star; has flamethrower; bazooka has 4 shots), karate soldiers very unforgiving if timed wrong, gun soldiers constantly appear from behind, dog boss attack patterns different, stage 4 (5?) boss changed to flame troopers, different mission profile (POW rescue), stages 2 and 6 absent, loop is absurdly hard to complete, music more mundane.
Folks who were born after 90’s doesn’t know much about disk booting associated with 3.5 inches disk precisely saying. That is why that are trained to be so impatient here....
This reminds me of the Atari 2600 days... when I wanted nothing but Activision games. Just like with the NES when I wanted all Konami Games. Today you couldn't pay me to play any of those two companies games LOL
different color scheme, music, i don't remember there ever being any hidden passages, when you get a weapon you have to use it all before you use the knife again and bosses are a little different. thats the best i can remember when i played.
It is not just a game, but a memory to anyone who pasted the 80’s treasure in entertainment... you lost yourself if you are too serious to think the logic here.
I don’t remember the details but this game actually does have certain cheat code which is not associate with the regular code from Konami. I remember when I played that game in fanicom, I have to use code just to pass the stage...PAIN In The butt if saying
Man i grew up playing this beautiful game and i still love the music

And the biggest differnece is the name RUSSIAN ATTACK!!!
My cousin had this game on his CPC 464 in 1986, it was the very first video game I played.
My first Game played to
In the "good guys" base: "We will send on this deadly mission a soldier only armed with a knife!"
Meanwhile at the enemy base: "It's simple, we will jump kick him to death!"
3 letters: OSP. Metal Gear Solid refined the concept years later
Honestly that also makes me laugh when you think about it
I used to love the final level music. :-)
"Green beret" the beret is blue

OMG, I loved this game. Spent hours 30+ Years ago, bring back memory as a early teenager. Thanks man!
Rush 'n' Attack!!! Bring back memories!!! Awesome!!!
I've been looking for this game's name for decades! omg the nostalgia!!!
Love the music in this game. What a classic.
Absolutely man..so much nostalgia n goosebumps hearing this soundtrack
A good retro arcade game that reminds me of my youth
I had Rush 'n Attack as a kid. I can see the differences between both games.

deploy a soldier to destroy enemy's secret weapon ...WITH A KNIFE and .... honored russian military stops him with barehands
Russian GRU underestimated man's knife skills. 🔪
Actually this is the Japanese version on the Famicom (Japanese NES), which utilized memory cards rather than cartridges. Also, the U.S. version was called "Rush 'n' Attack", although the arcade version was still called "Green Beret".
Good luck! *LOADING*

oh god a NES game that actually has loading times
A lot of games on the famicom disk system had load times because they were on disk. Zelda has load time in Japan because of this
'Yes, let's send in all the firepower to defend the rocket. I'm sure Cocodile Dundee over here won't use it to blow it up.' ~Top Soviet Brass
8:05 this is how forgiving this version is!
The original arcade is better and harder than this version. By the way...Nintendo should rename this game in...Blue Beret :)
What?a VDV against his own comrade? xD
Mission destroy secret weapon not the whole army lol
i used to love this game .thanks a lot 4 sharing this video
The barking dogs sound unbelievably realistic.
Rush'n Attack

In cartridges it RUSH AND ATTACK
"Rush and Attack" is what this game is called in japan.
Remember The Time When I used to play this Game
The triangle wave sound like congos
I remember my cousin asking, why is it called rush'n attack if the two guys are americans? It's not Russian, it's rush-and, or rush-in.
what's the drum roll/song at 16:02 ? I've heard it before I thought it was part of star and stripes forever, it isn't
my first video game, ever!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU :)
Does anyone know what year this version is from or rather what the background music of the first level is called? 0:50
Hmm... Why is this game's name "Green Beret" even though the playable character's beret is blue?
Blue beret
Rush-n-Attack
Thank You.
More correctly: It's for the Famicom Disk System, which had games on floppies, and that's why it has loading times.
So it was not memory cards. =P
Folks who were born after 90’s doesn’t know much about disk booting associated with 3.5 inches disk precisely saying. That is why that are trained to be so impatient here....
4:48 "MMEERRRIICCCAAAA!!!"
Blue Beret!.
Rush n Attack
Where can I download this NES ROM game? I love this version than Rush N' Attack. Thanks
damn farthest i reach was stage 4 this game is hard lol
This reminds me of the Atari 2600 days... when I wanted nothing but Activision games. Just like with the NES when I wanted all Konami Games.
Today you couldn't pay me to play any of those two companies games LOL
Wonder why the underground passages were removed from nes?
Also this needs a remake!
It's my favorite game!
different color scheme, music, i don't remember there ever being any hidden passages, when you get a weapon you have to use it all before you use the knife again and bosses are a little different. thats the best i can remember when i played.
To think Soviet barracks were annihilated because of a French Foreign Legion soldier with a knife.
Why is the name of the game Green Beret, but person in blue uniform?
Ненавижу эту игру,она была адской сложности.Несколько разбитых джойстиков
ты всё врешь
Green beret, wears blue.
Question to MrPopsicle43:
Was this the very first video game, in which you had to stop a nuclear weapon?
Played on black and white TV!
Where I'm from we it's called Rush'n Attack
I thought this was called Rush n Attack...
6:12... Very Rambo " hero Jump "👍👍👍
hax. totally should have died I had this game as a kid
Why does it say "loading..." between stages?
I have green beret and almost all classic gaming consoles, and arcade classics on my "raspberry pi4" gaming emulator...
@@lalo80adams71 How does that answer my question?
It was played on a famicom
I didn't know it had 2 names. So which is it?? Rush n Attack or Green Beret?
"Loading". Disk version?
для 1987 года эта игра опережала свое время.
вы из россии
dude has bazooka on hes shoulder most of the time and hes using some butterknife =P
Fiilis1 yeah, we called that the earlier linear weapon system. To say the least, a grenade is more sufficient to throw anywhere though...
Green beret on the NES
Fight enemy forces with just bare hands
And destroy the missile

One US green beret against an entire battalion of Russian soldiers? Apparently that's totes doable according to Konami!
It is not just a game, but a memory to anyone who pasted the 80’s treasure in entertainment... you lost yourself if you are too serious to think the logic here.
Ma jeunesse :)
Mgs and this game is connected
Why is he blue, if it's called "Green Beret"? Rush-N-Attack sounds better.😁
15:35... Loading??? for what?? it's a nes game... man....
Famicom Disk System, floppy disks, which required load time.
🤩
another game the konami code does not work with.
I don’t remember the details but this game actually does have certain cheat code which is not associate with the regular code from Konami. I remember when I played that game in fanicom, I have to use code just to pass the stage...PAIN In The butt if saying

Some of the most useless enemies I've seen in a video game. Most just run into you, some just lay there waiting to be killed.
You forgot some of them jump and kick on you...and those are a lot in the game too. Pretty effective to kill you if you touch any of them.
The forefather of legendary Contra... Still don't like it. Anti-Russian propaganda.
Anti-Soviet, not anti-Russian.
Because of this game, I learned the real reason America won the Cold War was because of some guy with a knife.
