Great first day on the trail. I appreciate y'all taking us along.Great video and pictures. Welcome to my home state North Georgia mountains Wanda🙏🙏🙏❤️🥾🥾❤️🥾🥾✌️☕
Thanks, JoAnn, We enjoy your scenery, Talks, overview………we day hike a lot…..( though some SURGERIES SLOWED ME last mon5hs), we just moved , six years ago , *close to where, CDT Trail crosses over MCDONALD Pass on MT12(** HELENA VALLEY, MT )…..etc…
That expanding water making those amazing ice hair forms sounds exactly right, but why no ice hair the more north you go? Is it the ground temp being factor in getting ice hair or not? Ground stays below freezing and air is freezing. The very top of the water freezes and expands upward, and repeats each expansion growing the ice hair.
Yes, when you open your camera and put it in video mode, you can see the quality in the upper right corner. I film in 4K but that takes up a lot of space. I edit in CapCut and make sure videos are saved at 4K, then have to make sure RUclips uploads at the highest quality too. More settings. RUclips can take hours to days to load a big video and it shows them in poor quality until they are fully uploaded too.
Ok, So in all fairness I was not going to subscribe even though your video quality is superb but the "elastic around the pad tip" at the end gets a subscribe from me. Look forward to following your journey. You are my third and final group I'm following. Best wishes for a safe journey
Discovered your channel and I look forward to following your adventures. The video is so crisp that I have to ask what camera are you using? Best of luck!
I did the Georgia section two years ago and loved it. Had the time of my life. I know you both are going to really enjoy the hike. Be careful and stay safe. I’ll be following you both. 😊
Looks like a great start! Congratulations and good luck. I'm sure you have realized the mental aspect of the hike is more than the physical. Soon you'll be used to the pain and gain, but getting wet, dry, wet, dry, and having to put on wet shoes is a mental game. Also, when you start to smell like a proper vagabond and keep going, that will test you. You have the right attitude.
So far 7 days without a shower and two days of cold rain is the most I have done on the Foothills Trail. Cold rain would definitely be a challenge along with very hot days. Love a challenge though.
Good luck guys! I thru-hiked the AT in 2021 and I'm starting the PCT this year on March 9th. Looks like you are off to a great start. I loved hiking the AT and I'm sure you will too. Watch the weather closely in the Smokies! Best of luck to you!
We are having the best time! I think taking it easy and not ending the day too exhausted to eat or move helps. I think most if not all of the nights got below freezing so far. Two were really cold with wind chill. We stayed warm.
Great start ladies! Just joined in and hope to follow to Katahdin. Love seeing Three Forks! Also love my REI magma sleeping bag. God bless and keep trekking!
Thanks for showing your sleep system. Hope it keeps you warmer then it did during your AT gear test. That was a COLD night! So you told us Linda's trail name, what's yours?
Such beautiful weather for your AT thru hike start day. Great views along the trail with your first AT river crossin’ completed. Your hiking experience and confidence is evident. - Jiffy Pop
Thank you Jiffy Pop. We have been doing a lot of hiking to prepare in the last year. So far I think we are doing well. Happy with almost all of my gear and the hiking hasn’t seemed hard yet.
This was a nice Day 1 video. You are doing the correct thing by taking it easy for a few weeks. You have lots of time. - I know that the higher the rate, the larger the files you have to upload, but I think 360p is pretty pixely. If you could double that to at least 720p, the video would be a lot less blurry. 😉
Thanks for the heads up. You are right. It should be 4k. Have no idea why it isn't. Will probably have to reload it. It often takes awhile to get to full quality but I gave it 24 hours before I made it public.
I checked it. Said video was taking longer to upload than usual. So it is still not showing at full quality. It was up to 720 last night when I checked though. Thankfully I didn’t have to download it again.
feels so good to see the white blazes!! I have been to Springer twice and both times I missed the log lol. You can almost miss the sign its really not much to it. Except for the cold I am jealous you are out there and I am sure you met all the mice at Hawk mountain that place is jumping with them
So far I haven’t seen any mice in shelters. I think I heard some during the night at Hawk. Maybe too cold for them to be out. The first two days out were really cold. By the time we got set up and dinner cooked in camp, we were freezing. Took over an hour in the sleeping bag to warm back up. Temps in the 20s and the wind was whipping. Incentive to keep moving during the day. Lol
I'll be joining you out there in about 29 days for my 2nd attempt. I had to quit in NC last year due to a knee issue because I tried to do to much too soon for my age and fitness level. I'll be following in your footsteps (both literally and figuratively) in that I'll be smart this year and won't try to do too much too soon. So what if it takes 2 days to do the approach trail, right? Love your videos and hope to see you on trail! --Pale Rider
@@hikingmovie Well, if a lot of people are like me and have seen the trails many, many times because they follow a lot of hikers, it is the personality of the hikers that makes each vlog a hit. Just my personal opinion, of course. You can do what you like. I will keep watching. Good luck on the trail.
this place is amazing 😃
Thanks
Great video. 🙏
Thanks
I so envy you. Wish I had done this in my younger days. Am to old and not healthy to do it now. I hope you enjoy every step. Stay safe.

Hello. I just subscribed and I start nobo on April 2nd. It will be a privilege to watch you ladies until I begin my own journey.
Thanks! Good luck on your hike.
Instant subscribe, what awesome picture and production quality! Y’all will be my main hike to watch this year I think.
Thanks so much!
Great video. I have watched many many AT videos and never knew about that box with the log, thanks for showing me that ❤
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.

bears are coming out now.
Fingers crossed I will see one.
@@hikingmovie Above all else, don't run and don't forget to turn the camera on.

My trail name is Cheesesteak. Given to me by Journeyman.
Thanks for watching Cheesesteak
Good first day on the trail.
We had such a great time!
What camera are you using!! This is great.
Thank you! Just my phone. iPhone 13 Pro Max
Is it special settings? I can not get that clarity when I film

great hike. happy trails
Thank you!
Good weather on your first day for a nice walk in the woods.
Thank you. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.
I like the pink gloves. What’s the brand.
Not sure, just cheap Walmart dish washing gloves to stop water and wind with Possum Down gloves for warmth underneath.
Great first day ladies. I am here for the duration. Best of LUCK!!!!
Thanks for watching
Enjoy your journey . Lively video with lots of good information .
Thank you! We will.
Great day on the trail. I like your sleep setup. 😊
Thanks! It has gotten us through some really cold nights especially since I added the new sleeping pad with better insulation.
Awesome video! Great 1st day!!!🥾🥾❤️
Than you
Congratulations on day 1!

Does your friend use hiking poles?
She has them with her, but hasn’t really been using them much. She is wanting to get her legs stronger.
Great 1st day guys. Many more good days to follow!!!

Great quality video! Good content too! Best of luck to you two...You are smart to take it easy and enjoy this epic journey!

Seemed to be a nice first day. You're smart not pushing it on your first day. Great pictures of the trail. Hope you're enjoying yourselves. Stay warm.

You must have a really nice camera or fantastic skills, or both! The video quality is awesome! Good luck with your hike!
Thank you! Using my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Amazing the quality of video you can get from a phone now. Decided not to carry a heavy camera.
Great job! Love the trail views as you hike - lets we "armchair hikers" experience the trail with you. Best wishes!

Thanks for following. That bag was one of the best things I found at REI garage sale. Love it!
Thanks for showing your sleep system. Hope it keeps you warmer then it did during your AT gear test. That was a COLD night!
So you told us Linda's trail name, what's yours?
Mine is greyhound. Adding that Thermarest pad with more insulation made all the difference. No cold air coming up from the ground anymore.
@@hikingmovie I should have guessed your trail name is greyhound! I bet Chunky is missing you.
Glad you are sleeping warmer.
Looks like a great first day, cold hiking is much better than summer hiking besides the lack of the beautiful green.
I can’t wait to walk through all 4 seasons on the trail.
