This is great! I've been shooting everything 4K but I honestly don't think people care! Dropping down to 1080p for RUclips and then recomposing for TikTok may be the answer I was looking for. So simple but so brilliant. Thank you!
The reason to shoot on 4K is that it gives you better results if you blow up the image. You can output your final edit to 1080 for uploading to those SM sites...
Thank you, this is great idea and I will use this. I was thinking about buying another camera to record to but this works, you just have to figure out the distances and setup. Once you have done this a few times it's easy to edit the completed video and you don't have to have extra equipment or shoot twice. Thank you sir.
Great tips on both at the same time! I've been messing around with camera settings and my wide lens so I think I may try this for my long-form videos and then cropping for vertical short-form content. Thanks for sharing this 🙌
Thank you so much for this! For a beginners and new channel like us, this tip is a golden nugget! I applied some of your other tips too! Slow it may be but learning should never be rush. Cheers!
Great info, as usual. Thanks Philip. I have an Android and will look for the Rule of 3rds the next time I film. I'm at the very beginning of my journey and am up to 33 subscribers today. I appreciate your content.
This is so helpful. I'm was trying to find a hobby then found that recording my own cooking was fun and like to try to dive deep into video making. Your channel truly a Godsent
This is sooo helpful. I want to be able to film makeup videos. So, it's really hard to get the closer shots for more detail which is really helpful for makeup application
Thank you thank you thank you so much for all this in depth explanation! I been stressing myself out about how I’m going to film at the same time for RUclips & Tiktok and have it come out looking nice! I didn’t even think about the grid! Thanks for this I’m going to try this today! 👍🏾👏🏾
This was super helpful! I going to try this with a shoot I have tomorrow. My camera is a Sony A7ii and I don’t have 4K, what do you suggest my settings should be at the film at the highest quality possible, like you said?
That editing software is amazing. I'm using a Lenova Legion 5 laptop, did you have to subscribe to download the Adobe Premier Video editing software or just a one-off purchase? And how much?
I swear it drove me crazy thinking I could not use my camera to film shorts. Thanks for sharing. I am so gonna try try this next time I am shooting a short.
Hey Philip, your Content is great and a big help. I am currently "transitioning" from Iphone to Sony A7iii and there is so much to learn. Thanks and keep up, Greetings from Germany :-)
love your creator content, tried your method and now i am able to create short form sneak peaks for youtube/TikTok in order to tease my longform content😍 is there any chance that you can do a video about colour grading food content in post? I am using DaVinci resolve for my edits and i am still trying to figure out how to colour grade my food content properly
Just got this camera based on your suggestion! One issue I’m having is that I have everything framed overhead but when I hit record video, it zooms in. Do you know if there’s a setting to turn this off?
Love this info.! Thank you so much! Going to give it a try, LOL! Wish me luck! Especially since I am shooting my video about Mercury retrograde starting tomorrow which could be a recipe for disaster, LOL! But, I'm going to push the cosmic limits anyway because that's me! Thanks!
Hi, y did they start shooting things in vertical is there any advantage to shooting in vertical coz it’s driving me crazy , am an animator please help me
Super useful! I’ve been trying to fit horizontal drone video to vertical, and stumble upon this great tips. I’ve watched some other video how to fit horizontal video to vertical but they never mention about how to use the grid lines effectively. Thank you so much!
All phone cameras should shoot in vertical and horizontal automatically, each and every time without special settings. There are few things more annoying than vertical videos played on computer and tv screens!!!
@@anthonydauer Yep. The other thing I had in mind that I didn't mention above is that the technology would be such that the device/computer/tv would know which to display (horizontal/vertical) on it's own.
Great video Philip! I will try to start doing 1080 projects with the 4K footage for my vertical videos, I think it will improve the quality! I use FCP but I’m sure there is a way!

Gov't made us all remove TikTok from our devices. There was a very good reason for it. And you still use it ?
I was waiting for this video! Thanks Phillip ❤️
Thanks!
I’m 1:12 into the video & already learned something 🔥

Hey! Thanks for this video. If one is shooting top down then ho. To go about it?
Should the setting display grid lines or square lines?
Thanks for this. Is there a way to do the edits in CapCut ? I find Adobe a bit complicated for me as a beginner
I swear it drove me crazy thinking I could not use my camera to film shorts. Thanks for sharing. I am so gonna try try this next time I am shooting a short.
Thank youuuuuuu! I don't have to whip out 2 cameras any more lol! This was very helpful and is going to save me so much time!

Your content is very helpful ❤ thank you for sharing ❤
Do you have one showing how to do this in final cut pro?
Hey Philip, your Content is great and a big help. I am currently "transitioning" from Iphone to Sony A7iii and there is so much to learn. Thanks and keep up, Greetings from Germany :-)
I loved that bts honesty moment at 3:34 haha
What about shooting in a 1:1 format and then zooming in and out respectively for landscape and vertical
Thanks so much for this!! Just getting started with my beauty/travel channel and I've only considered using two camera ffs haha Thanks !!!!

thank youuu!!!!
Excellent stuff Philip! These are the techniques we use as well!
How do you do this fast for a ton of footage?
I copy and paste the clips, and then the crop settings.
I give you a like for that funny moment when you show us your laptop
Ur too good
same thing with final cut please
😢 I wish canon would let us do this… the grid lines go away when you press record. Anyone have tips?
in other words, if you want your resulting horizontal & vertical videos in 4K, shoot it in 8K.

Wouldn’t be surprised if one of the Asian brands sold in Southeast Asia can do that. They already have the face correction built in in some brands.
@@anthonydauer Yep. The other thing I had in mind that I didn't mention above is that the technology would be such that the device/computer/tv would know which to display (horizontal/vertical) on it's own.
Vertical and horzontal... now, would that be "vertizontal," or "hortical?" 🤔🤔
It’s all about the angles. (Deep voice laugh) Hehehe
Great video Philip! I will try to start doing 1080 projects with the 4K footage for my vertical videos, I think it will improve the quality! I use FCP but I’m sure there is a way!
I think he makes food content guys ☺️
This is making me hungry, lol
