Great video. This is the first video I've come across that gives all the useful tips in detail about voice-overs. Im new to RUclips and video editing, so i was looking for useful tips to optimize my editing process, and this video helped when many others didn't. Thanks
Hello. When you start out check out the blue yeti usb microphone. I saw it for around 100 dollars. If you work your way up you can upgrade. The rode NT 1a is good when you choose xlr input, the NT 1 is better but it costs around 100 dollars more. If you want to record in stereo check Rode nt5. As a interface I personally use the Steinberg ur22c. It has to xlr inputs and it's around 150 dollars. But more important is the room you record in. Treat it well and you get good results with any microphone. Good luck
That is one of the best videos about this topic. But one question, when you recorded this video, did you record audio and video at the same time separately and put it in the end together or were you reading the script a second time without video and put this at the end together with the video? I was always wondering, since there is a couple times a cut in your video but you can't hear it in the sound. I would be happy for a response. 😊
Hi! I am in the process of editing my first voiceover. I am using your tips and tricks. However when I want to edit the video part so it matches the finished voiceover everything gets mixed up. Do you know if it is possible to lock in the finished voiceover in IMovie so I can start editing the video? Thanks 🙏🏼
Is there an advantage to recording voiceover into adobe vs whatever editing software a person uses? I use capcut and I can record into that where I’m editing the video. Super helpful video, thanks!
Love you love your content BUT here’s a whole video demo’ing a variety of mics and apps BUT you’re sitting behind your table talking and we cannot see THAT mic! There’s a couple minutes to go, I hope there’s an authentic BTS.
I literally cannot for the life of me figure out how to record vocals without the damn background noise.... In order for the mic to pick up my voice it has to be sensitive enough to capture the ambience around me or my breath noises. I can cut the gain but then I can barely hear myself even by putting the monitor level to max. -.-
Thank you! I needed this info. As an older person sometimes presentations assume that you know certain things that younger generations have grown up with. Your presentation was simple step by step that I can follow and be successful.
Good video but there's a thing that I didnt understood : If I mess up a paragraph, but leave a blank and then continue, the footage that I'm seeing at the screen will not be what I'm saying anymore because there will be a offset
Just decided to do a voiceover for my new travel vlog and everytime i try this i just give up out of pure exhaustion!😭😭 I tired it now too and gave up lol! FYI, i dont know a single ting about voiceovers and just went off of what i thought how it would be and I failed. So here i am to learn atleast some basics and some tips from my fellow YTbers who have some experience in this sector! ALL THE VERY BEST to the peeps who are trying your best to make things work! @@PhilipLemoine ah interesting. how about the jump from videomic ntg to videomic go ii ? i’ve got the ntg and find it’s not basey enough hence the questions.
I love your videos! They're so helpful! I also bought some equipment you recommend in your video (a tripod for example) and I'm more than happy! And I was so sorry to see, that you stopped uploading new videos 😢
I just bought a blue yet nano. I ve been trying to use it to record my gameplay in obs. However its echoing. Do you have any suggestions for me to stop that echoing sound when recording?
Hi, Philip. When recording a voice over, is it possible to record the voice over while the video is playing in order to avoid having to edit what may or may not match at the end?
It’s possible, but you’d need to be an absolute pro to nail the voiceover in a single take. Sometimes I can’t get more than 2 lines in before I need to re read my script.
@@PhilipLemoine Thank you for the fast response. I’m very interested in starting a cooking channel (outdoor griddle for the most part) and after searching RUclips, you seem to provide the most detailed information (but not overly complicated when explaining the steps) for a novice.

Do you still use Adobe Rush? Or do you find CapCut works just as well.
I havent used Rush in a while. Id still recommend Adobe Rush over CapCut. Capcut is free tho.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this with us, now tell us how and where do you colour grade your footage 😊😊😊😂

I've used condensors and dynamics from 80 to 800$ and its always the same maybe I'm just stupid but I cant get rid of that mf background noise!

At 07:10 of the video, I explain how I edit the mess-ups and blank areas in the audio. After that, I'll adjust the footage to fit what I'm saying.
"Mouth Portal" has gone in the vocab.

This video has so much value! Thank you!
Did you find a big jump in sound when you changed over from the Rode Video NTG to the Shure (am thinking of making the switch)?🎙️
I did. Its a more "richer" tone with the Shure Mic.

Appreciate the tips! I was struggling with my audio. I have a Shure Microphone and kept getting echos.
I had this issue too. I had to fully mute my computer when recording any voice overs.
@@PhilipLemoine I meant to ask in my original comment but do you have recommendations on how to set up a shure mic on a Mac?
@@Chilididit I leget just plug it into my computer with a USB cable.
Or get a preamp interface between your mic and computer for even cleaner audio. Check out the Focusrite line.
Thank you ❤❤❤
Oh, I learned so much! I'm going to have to watch it again later just to make sure I didn't miss anything. And thanks for the mic reviews.
Your Rode Mics will work for voice overs! You can plug them in with a USB cable!
