fair praise. i saw lots of tire deflection on that rowdy trail, imagine how they'd like it with 2.5 tires. for it's modest travel, this is a hard hitting trail bike.
Everyone wants different things from their bikes though. What works for one, might not work for another. Of the top 3 bikes in the test this one was best for those looking for a more gravity orientated ride, there's the Trek Fuel EX (video coming soon) which I think was best for riders looking for pedalling efficiency, and a taut yet fun ride, and the winner, the YT Jeffsy, which was pure and simple the most fun bike in the whole test.
Have you ridden the carbon version with high end components, I had an aluminum and a carbon version and they are like 2 different bikes. Are you trying to keep things at a price point or what?
I have a 2007 Giant Pistol Two full suspension bike, I've upgraded front shock to a Rock Shock and the spring in the rear is a softer spring as I'm a lite rider at 155lbs. My question is what it a good all around 26 inch tire? I ride mostly pavement but I do venture off road occasionally, bike has some Continental's on it currently but they ride very slow even a max air pressure of 65psi
Just by looking at it trek is more geared to flatter trails, maybe more of all rounder due to steeper geometry. As said here this bike goes well down but is a bit slower up.
I got this bike as a loaner and i have to say for the price $3500 CDN i am sadly not impressed with it . Its not a bad bike but its not great either imo . No wow factor for me . Gonna try out a Trek Fuel next & see how that goes . Ive honestly hammered on my lighty upgraded 2008 Giant Rincon ive had since new & have alot more fun on that . I definitely like the frame and overall feel of it better . $$$$ sometimes just doesnt equate to a great bike , its finding the bike that fits you & your riding style best .
Where would you consider bikes around £3K to be? Mid-range? High-end? Past £1000 I have literally no idea what kind of progression you're supposed to go on from your first full-susser
within most bike companies' ranges, 3k is probably considered mid-range, though in terms of overall bike sales it's a very popular price point which is why we choose this level for this bike test. where you go next is really up to you - there are some great bikes for £1-1.5K for sure. The Norco has just last week been reduced to £2.5k (after the video was filmed sadly), which makes it great value for money. there's no 'requirement' for anyone to spend a certain amount on a bike - spend what you're comfortable spending - there's almost definitely going to be some great bikes available :)
Thomas Marvin that's a fair answer, I currently have a 2016 Canyon Nerve and I'm trying to work out what's actually worth upgrading to that I might be able to afford as a student 😂
it's the reality of what's happening to bike geometry across the board though - i can't think of any bike launches i've been on where the geometry has remained static, or got shorter/steeper. as geometry is one of the key components of how a bike rides, it would be a compromised review if it wasn't mentioned... i'll try and think of some different words next time though - elongated, squished and stretched, perhaps? ;-)
This review helped me. You directly addressed some questions I still had after reading some other professionalally written reviews.
That was great. A very lucid and descriptive review of the handling. Nice job.

I have the carbon sight. It climbs great. I don't however find them as good a value as they used to be.
Bike of The Year should be a bike that excels in ALL AREAS
that's why it's just contender

thinking of getting the sight c2. anyone got one and how do you like it?

sorry - yeah we didn't clarify the testing requirements, which included the price (may £3350)

How does it compare to a trek fuel ex? Seems similar.

fuel ex video coming very soon... i really liked it too...

Ben Marshall only upgrade broken or worn out things, problems solved!
Has anyone gotten tired of "longer lower slacker" yet?
No
as mentioned in the video - this isn't particularly long or slack anyway - it's just longer and slacker than the previous version
I mean it's getting boring to hear those words in every new bike release and review

But what will they in the long term? There's so many degrees you can lop off.
Just buy the Norco sight VLT it will solve all your problems 😉
