For anyone curious, the red/orange device is a thermistor about 10k ohm at 20C. It connects between the far right gold contact (looking at the back) and the center one (ground / negative) that is right next to it. The black diode in between the positive end of the cells and the positive gold charging point on the back (the left-hand contact, by itself) is a diode with a drop of about 0.17 V. There is a thermal fuse instead of a nickel strip between two cells in the middle of the pack, labeled ISUZU IP505BC-B 80C. I used a 32 tpi hacksaw blade instead of a kitchen knife.
Hi Brad. Try Sanyo Eneloop AA-size. But finally I bought FNB-V94 1800 mAh. Looks like original, Vertex branded, Made in China. Aliexpress, Amazon or 409 Shop. 73!
Thanks for your video! And yes, I just got an FNB-V94 1800mAh from Amazon, $21. I hope that it's good quality. We'll see. I was going to open the old one and put fresh eneloops in there... but they are about $3 each, so instead of spending $18 plus some work, I chose to get an already built pack for just a little more. But I'll keep the old case. Eneloops might get cheaper eventually.
I'm glad you posted this. You saved me the time and headache of realizing that taking it apart to put new cells in there isn't worth the effort!

Where would I find another battery pack to replace my bad one
