No yeah fo sho mate. Something about the wiring on the tray supposedly prevents this from happening, I'm not entirely sure on that at the moment. But yeah, I wish there was a way to disable the charge option from accidentally being set in the menu, but to be honest that menu is so whack anyway. lol Hey man, thank you for watching. Keep on being awesome!
I had the same issue using all but one Eneloop batteries. The odd-out battery was an Energizer, and after I switched it out with a matching Eneloop, the radio functioned as normal- thanks!
I've got two of those Yaesu "Dry Cell" battery trays/cases/holders, and this particular model works in both my VX-170 (from 2007) and my recently purchased FT-60. But I've only loaded them with standard "Alkaline" cells. In the past, with other Yaesu HT's, they seem to work fine with either standard cells OR rechargeable cells. I've never heard from any of my fellow "Ham" operators any issues like your having here. GOOD LUCK
I like Ladda batteries too. Made in Japan better than made in china. I have eneloop min1900mah in my tray with the center piece in tact, no bulge and it works :)
No yeah, use the Ladda in most all other needs around the home. Thanks for the tip on the Eneloop batteries. I'll have to get some. Thanks for watching.
I have the same radio and I also bought one of those battery case and I didn't have any issues I didn't have to do any modifications, I tried with regular batteries and Energizer rechargeable batteties and it worked just fine. Don't buy those Chinese batteries some are oversized a little fatter, use energizer batteries.
Hey @TheNoCodeTech I'd like to mod the radio to be able to recharge it from the DC jack input as well, not just the cradle, so it's easier to use in the filed. Was thinking maybe that's something you've looked into already. Cheers.

I believe that may work but you should not use it with the desktop battery charger because that particular battery case does not protect against overcharge. You would have to charge the batteries individually/separately with their own battery charger. Also, the recent Yaesu Ft-60 North America model - the 12V side connector is used to operate the radio only and will not charge the batteries.
whats the snippy tool called? i have to get one. thanks for the great video i just got the radio and now looking to get some accessories and this is the perfect video for batteries. this radio is truly built to last
cool video. you remind me of wild bill- silence of lambs. LOL i dont know why. good video. subscribed.Oh... i had to slow your video down to 0.75 ... your hands move way too fast for me to see things happening.
Hey thanks for watching. I don't know if that is a complement or not, lol. Thank you for the sub. Too much coffee makes makes my hands move at super speed.
@@TheNoCodeTech Thanks I'd have to purchase a 3D printer and then do the research finding a blue print or something similar and modify...At that point might as well just but another battery or HT...Roger that buddy..
Be careful. Don't try to recharge these while in the radio. The manual is specific about this.

Thank you man.
Love the "Stream of consciousness" tech goin' on here....!
Can you do the same thing with a Tesla? Thanks.
Hey mate, thanks for watching. Yeah that seems to happen more often than not.
Thanks for the positive feedback.
Keep on rockin' my man!
What I have done is to use 2 14500 (AA size) Lithium batteries with 4 dummy AA batteries in the emergency battery case. Works well.
Hey man, that's a grate idea, where do you get your dummy batteries from?
Thanks for watching.
If you use 6 batteries × 1.5 V = 9 volts , the original yaesu battery is 7.5 volts so you have to put 1 dummy battery to get the right voltage.
@@TheNoCodeTech Sorry for the horrible delay... I got mine on Amazon.
@@АлексейЛесуков-ч3ь That's something they don't tell you when you buy the AA battery magazine (?).
Neat bit of kit. Should measure it. Looks 3d printable
Thanks for watching.
Sure wish I had a 3d printer
Very useful video Thanks.

FT-70 have a battery tray by chance?
Sadly, no AA battery tray is available for the FT-70. There is a 3d printable 18650 tray available however.
Thanks for watching!
