Hey I'm slightly new to radios I was a 25U In the army so I understand slightly of this. I bought 3, ft-60 radios for my upcoming camping trip in the middle of nowhere and I mean no service what so ever for 8 miles. What would be the best use scenario to utilize this radio during my trip without having to do this procedure. everyone says you cant VHF cause of the marine and i thought I could use it as MURS but it seems i have to mod it now. Any advice to clear my question up would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
If you have a tech license then you can operate on 2-meter or 70-centimeter simplex. Or, if that isn't an option, then you can always go with some GMRS radios to talk on, and use the FT-60's for monitoring purposes (e.g. any local repeaters). You mentioned being out in the middle of nowhere, and how far you can get your signal out will be impacted by factors such as the type of operating environment you'll be in, what type of antenna you have, how high in elevation you are and any potential obstructions your signal has to overcome. You mentioned operating on MURS, and if that is your goal then there are a lot of options out there. I think Radioddity has some offerings (not sure if that is helpful for what you're looking to do or not?).
I would say before going too far down the path of trying to mod a radio, I would ask what your comms goals are? Usually for my camping trips with friends and family, I go the GMRS route, and if I think I'll need it, I have a Retevis RT97 portable repeater if I'm in an area with a lot of obstructions.
@@PartisanCommsGroup Yes, an image. I know the resister is very small and hard to focus but a still shot zoomed in with a phone or camera would really help. Thanks.
Great video, thanks.
The intro is amazing
Another good video. Thank you sir.
Great video, lots of good information.
Thank you.
Thanks! Worked great.
Actually, I dont think I will do it, I am just going to use it as a receiver on the Airband, I have a good antenna for it.73 Levi

@@PartisanCommsGroup so the ft-60 isn’t gmrs and if i were to custom add mars i could potentially use them as if w other ham radios
With out a license if I customized ranges 151 154 mhz with the mars mod on the ft-60
@Terences123 Correct, that HT is intended for amateur radio use on 2-meter and 70-cm frequencies.

The pics you said would leave down below, ?????
Do you mean an image of the circuit board? I beleive there should be one in the video.

At the 5:18 mark there is a photo of the circuit board. I'm not sure if I still have a copy of it.
@@PartisanCommsGroup Thanks but I don't need a pic now. My Yaesu is now a BRICK. Not related to your video though. It was MY fault.
What happened?
What do you mean by "reinstall the code plug?"
If you have frequencies saved on the radio the mod will delete them. You will need to re-install your programming data.
