I now use it in my shack to log contacts, in addition to a portable digital mode computer....my philosophy is that I want to use and get comfortable with the computer which I use occasionally in the field, also so I know it will likely work when I turn it on.
You've got the right philosophy and good taste in laptops. I'm a firm believer in actively using your comms gear. I use my CF-20 daily for the same reason. Gear and skills will decay if not used.
