- What to look for when buying a used Audemars Piguet Royal Oak?
For selection of new and pre-owned Royal Oak watches, see: amzn.to/2ZygBhs
Here, I discuss the two-tone AP Royal Oak 14486 (36mm dial; automatic movement). I cover some background to the Royal Oak, and what to look for vis-a-vis the face and bracelet.
In broad terms, you will want to try to balance avoiding scratches against excessive polishing (which can round the otherwise iconic edges). I also discuss the bracelet and other details about the face.

Beautiful two tone
What movement does this use? Is it the jlc based movement used in the jumbo?
does this fit similar to a 14790 or closer to a 4100?
Whats it worth estimate? Got 1 similiar condition same watch
It seems like most of the ones on Chrono24 are going for around $8-10k (similarly with auctions, albeit with buyers premiums). Sometimes it's worth selling before you need to do a costly major services, I think.
How much royal oak 1998,(N°2122)
Issue is with AP is their design is easy to copy for fakes
It was a good investment😁! Now they are like 15k -20k on the grey market
Hahahaha yeah, I got lucky. I wish I could say I was prescient. But, back then, I didn't really know anything (and absolutely, am still learning)
Due to the tightness in the pandemic, the market is changing so much that nobody saw it coming. I've been looking for this model myself for a year (I like the 80s look and especially two tone), but unfortunately several people are currently looking for it😅. enjoy the model and don't lose it! This is and remains a timeless classic! 👌🏽
