Gotta use a sleeved collapsing column there, can be added after the heim support in the bay. Just the u joint won't stop the column from moving towards you.
When I used to throw my old pickup around a sweeping 90 curve, I looked in the opposite direction to make sure the rearend was sliding properly and where it was next to the edge of the road. Had a lot of fun with that old pickup. Wish I still had it.
About that steering column safety, I recall that older Opel Manta's had this clever system in them where part of the column bar was deforming in crash, essentially eliminating the risk of the steering wheel coming up in crash. It's like this really strong mesh that can withstand turning the wheel, but squashes upon straight impact.
I was thinking the same thing. I don't know about the Opel Manta's system but I'm pretty sure that NASCAR cars have safety systems available. I would'nt drive that thing as is. No way. BTW, I love your surname. I can hear the tune in my head !! 👍 🤪
I’m doing something like this on my street car, a 1965 Corvair Corsa! I’m using the late 65-66 steering column, a Flaming River connector and quick ratio steering box (1-16)! I’m doing it for the same reason you stated, as a daily driver, I don’t want it to be a death spear!
I would use a hollow tube with the solid shaft, but a collapsible connector like an aluminum bolt that would shear and let the shaft travel inside the tube. I did that with a Pinto I put a 351 C into to make the steering work. This was when junkyards and J.C. Whitney catalog was all you had. But it worked and was safe.
Los emiliozzi corrieron con Ford V8 batieron récord de velocidad de 220 km/h en Argentina y a los ab le pusieron levas a la cabeza 😶🤙🇦🇷👍🙂 excelente trabajo en el chasis
The back of the drivers seat should never contact the roll-bar. In a rear-end collision, the cross-bar already in contact with the seat bucket would be driven into the drivers spine. There normally would be about 4 -inches is set between the two. This would be the reason the steering wheel support was about four inch shorter than you've lengthened it to.
Man your so good at fixing cars an building engine I'd love to have you come down or help work on my Mustang an rebuild it would be super fun it's a 1971 sedan mustang with a 460 big block with 4 speed transmission with Hurse Shifter. 9 inch rear Deferential. I def wanna build the engine up to a 686 big block or 680 cb
David, not related to this video as such, but that firewall is as ugly as a bag full of backsides. Please tell me you have plans to tidy it up! Cheers, mate.
You might want to rethink that steering quickener. If you're running manual steering, and you add a 2:1 steering quickener, you lost your mechanical advantage. You should run the steering at 1:1 with a manual box to reduce the force needed to steer the car.
that steering box would be perfect if they made it in a right hand drive to fix my worn out box i could adapt the top section of my column to keep the column shift whats that steering box out of ?
It’s people like this that even if society goes to crap they will always find work. So those going for underwater basket weaving in college may want to rethink it. Cause I see it clouding up on the horizon.
This project is steering in the right direction. 😎👍🇨🇦
😂
At least that’s what it appears Dave is aiming for…
He should be going left though... 😁
@@akramishmael5604 I just did a a Gotchya..
I see what you did there 😆
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who has to drill holes too big and then weld in new material to make them fit tight.
Woot! Fun with the Ford. This is a build I enjoy watching, but then I enjoy watching all your builds, Davin
Also, Davin, I am loving the work you are doing with this old war horse. Cheers, mate.
Be nice to have a multi million dollar shop like you have.
"Relative to" count = 2 in this episode. Keep up the good work, fellas.

You're a Pro Fabricator Davin, great work👍
Stay Safe👍

This is the only thing I watch on this channel.

The VW super beetles had the same thing, a perforated steel section that would collapse in a crash.
that 3d plrinted engine got me
:D
Why are we watching ? We like watching " sparky " work !

Awesome vidoe this week. Great choice of garage music 🤘🏻

I love your videos. And in this one I loved the music.
Keep strong
Good job👍🤟
Plastic Block mockup every smart. You should market it.
I wonder how long the time lapse of this epic build will last in the end.

Why do so many auto racing sanctioning bodies require a seat back brace that is bolted or welded to the cross bar, then?
10:30 Look at that giant Yamaka Davin has on
Boy, he invites us in then tells us get lost go do our work. Lol
Yes.
I'm learning something! I'm learning something! 😌 😀😃🙂🙃😊
Keep doing it
As my little Brother always said: Have a Plan and stick to the Plan! Unless it Changes!
I only watch your videos and not the other car performance stuff that's on Hagerty.
Simple don't necessarily mean easy!
I think your cameraman is a Pyro! (are you going to make more sparks?) :)
Need the Captions to work...

I like the build, but so much can be done with how long it takes the videos come out.
