Have a mattress custom built to the exact way you want it after doing a lot of research on the internet about materials and testing each one out. Don't settle for pre designed models. get one thats custom tailored to YOU. You are unique, and so should be your mattress.
I came across a Saatva mattress on Facebook and did some research, it's online only but very highly rated, been around since 2010. Very good quality and priced very well.
My experience was the same. HOT! Ended up purchasing an all wool cover/top to break that heat. Mattress warped in less than a year. I did get an exchange credit through Simmons for another mattress.
All foam mattress on 4 legs frame will sag in the middle, where industrialist coined the phrase "the humping point". You do not want memory foam bc they will return to their natural shape longer than regular foam/the elasticity coefficient.
How can Consumer report give a comprehensive report on which mattress is best if they test less than 1% of the mattresses available. They should have at least one innerspring, one memory foam and one latex foam model from each manufacturer listed in the top 15 in volume.
I'm sure their tests are fair for the mattresses tested, and if you are looking at what's generally available, it's a good guide. After 20 years on highly rated standard mattresses like this, I finally got a mattress kit with multiple layers of natural latex foam, and it was a quantum leap IMO. It ended my back aches, neck aches, pressure on my hips when side-sleeping, and it breathes well. It was *way* expensive by comparison, but I have to be fresh and sharp for my job, and as far as I'm concerned, it has already paid for itself after a month. YMMV, but it's worth looking into.
+Roy Anderson I ended up going to Arizona Premium Mattresses at mattresses.net. The choices that worked for me were 6" of firm natural Talalay (rating 36 firmness), 3" of medium (rating 28) and 3" of soft (rating 19) in a bamboo fabric bag. There are a few brands of foam they carry, but the American and Dutch brands are both well made, so either is good. The result is still making me happy as a side-sleeper. It's not perfect -- I think there is another company that has a better wood foundation kit (two sections so it's easier to move), but I never wake up with neck aches any more, so it's pretty great overall. I'm happy with Coyuchi sheets (on sale, b/c they are outrageously expensive otherwise) but rather than using their flannel mattress protector, which kills the breathability of the mattress, I use a set of medium/heavy linen sheets for a base and wash it often. The flannel protector absorbs sweat, but has to because it makes one sweat -- only use it if you feel cold all the time. Finally, the Talalay pillows are pretty great -- the thinner softer one for my head. Side sleepers who use a "body pillow" would like the thicker firmer one for that. I've never had down pillows, so I don't know how they compare, but if I were told this was the only pillow I'd ever get to use, I'd be fine with it.
+eric moss BTW, call them after you look over their website. It's kind of confusing, and they have a couple websites to confuse one even more. mattresses.net is the "more correct" one. It will take a while to discuss the options and what's most important to you, and to figure out the details -- it ended up being a mishmash of certain package deals with upgrades rather than just fixed prices for individual parts. Kinda goofy, and we went over it a dozen times to make sure I got exactly what I thought I was getting. Then you wait 4-5 weeks. Unless you have a station wagon or van, get it delivered to your home, because the boxes only fit one at a time into a sedan, so moving them is a PITA. Get a friend to help unpack, because the foam pieces aren't super-compacted, so the boxes (five 50lb boxes) are clumsy and once the foam comes out, it's really hard for a single person to handle -- but easy for two people.
Someone needs to publish a cross comparison chart for all the major brands as it is impossible to comparison shop as every retailer has their own name and some times material choice to prevent consumers from comparing apples to apples. CR should publish this list so I can go to Sams club, then to Sears then to whom ever and compare like for like.
Need to add Bragada in your Tests. Stellar company, even better Mattresses. They have a better warranty, lower price and similar and better performance to a Temperpedic. I own a Bragada Milan series Kingsize bed. Bought in 2007. Best bed ive ever slept on. $2500, but even today many years later, the price is about the same.
And of course the cheaper the mattress, the cheaper the quality of materials and the less time it maintains it's firmness. Mattresses today don't last very long so enjoy spending your money!
Not necessary. I bought a $750 Symbol mattress 12 years ago. Aloe vera plush all foam. Best damn mattress ever. 10 year warranty and around 10 years, it started sagging a bit. Then I bought the Helix midnight. Firm and comfy but wanted a luxe model. So I go from 1,000 to 2,000 buying the midnight luxe and it flat out sucks. My back kills me
I don't understand how anyone could say the easy rest bed is comfortable. The insert is nothing but a chunk of foam and needs to be turned and flipped every 2 to 3 days and that's being very generous! I am a very disappointed customer!!
Your right Joe-I bought three queen size matteress and box springs from Ashley's and two of the three are bad. I've been waking up with lower back pain on one. My daughter complained of back pain on another and so I called Ashley and a tech came out. First tech took pictures and I was denied service becaause according to Ashley the mattresses wer stained. Well I told them I wanted to see these pictures becasue ALL my mattresses have mattress covers on them and they look new. Ashley sent me pics and they were NOT of my mattress and on top of this the clown they sent out said that the box springs were solied as well. I told them he was full of it and demanded another tech come out. I had to REALLY fight to get another tech out which I did and he agreeded with me that the mattresses were NEW and even though they were only two years old they were in SUPERB condition. Ashely has agreed to replace them so I called the store and said I didn't want another beauty rest EVER so they have agreed to switch out for memory foam which is a really good mattress. My advice if you have a tech EVER come out to your home and he takes pics. SEE THEM FOR YOURSELF before he leaves your home. The tech was using a smart-phone to take pics and I resented his lying about my mattresses.
I am in process of buying new mattress set after being DUPED by Dallas Discount Mattress and The Golden Mattress Co.,,HORRID mattresses,,upgrade was crap,,so very overwhelmed by all the 'crap' going on,,,finally settled on Serta Iseries,,,hope all goes well. I'm glad I didn't fall for that 'specialist' crap coming out to say and insist the dips and loud coils were my fault,,plus in no way was I going to PAY these vultures $50. to come out,,good luck to u!
How does intelliBED compare to the mattresses in the study? I would like to see Consumer Reports add gel mattresses to their study. From what I am told gel supports and cushions better than foam.
Obviously consumer reports all of the major brands, even though "actual" consumers complain how terrible the mattresses listed in the report actually are... I've only been in the mattress market for a week now and it's an extremely corrupt and slimy sales-oriented market. It's been difficult learning who to really believe. Good luck to all shoppers.
Spend 50 bucks and get a Costco membership, they will return any mattress you don't like Over and Over and Over and Over again, you can't beat that! you can literally keep switching mattresses until you find the one you like, My brother returned a mattress to costco that he slept on for 3 years but suddenly didn't like it anymore and they took it back and gave him a full refund
My 30 year old Simmons is great. My 8 year old Simmons Black Beauty Rest Firm is sagging and no longer usable. The warranty is only effective if it sags more than 1.5 inches. So there is effectively no warranty as who can sleep on a mattress with 1.5 inches of sag. It started sagging after only a few years. Never again S brand mattresses with your pillow top one sided rip off junk. Headed to the store that sells old fashion flippable mattresses.
If you have a good foundation like they have in the store!!!! They sell you a four legs frame v.s. their all ground contact frame, which distribute weight evenly!!! The bed foundation that they have cost another 2 thousands dollar, only available with the adjustable model, which have inferior foam/mattress material so it can be fold/flexible.
Simmons Beautyrest are the worst we had it for little over a year and sag is bad and it like sleeping in a hole. There warranty is the worst if it even has a dirt mark they won't warranty it what a joke never will buy there mattresses again nor any of my family will they hated them also. A stain has nothing to do with a defect. Serta or Sealey have better service and warranty and mattresses.
Tiger Williams A stain on a mattress will void the warranty with any company. That's why it's important to protect your investment with an antibacterial waterproof mattress protector. The protector also keeps your sweat out of the mattress causing the materials to last as long as they should instead of being broken down by the salt from our bodies. The best one on the market is by a company called pure care who started out by making antibacterial protectors for hospitals. They don't restrict air flow either.
Simmons is horrible!!! I have had mine for only 7 months and it is already sagging that is why I am on here I have to get another mattress because it has the be 2 inches and it's not but I can feel the springs when I lay on it. Awful do not buy
Christian Geek You should get a Tuft & Needle mattress. You do have to buy it online, though. Plus, it comes with a 100 night trial, and if you don't like it within the 100 nights, you can send it back for a full refund. Also, it's the top- rated mattress on Amazon.
Any coiled mattress says the indent must be 1.5" or greater. Keep in mind that NO manufacturer is perfect and they ALL have some amount of warranty issues. I've been working in the mattress industry for over 17 years and I've seen it first hand. The good news is that there are warranties out there to protect you. Just make sure there are no stains on the mattress as that will void your warranty. Think about it, if you worked at Simmons would you want to handle a mattress with stains?
Being a mattress store owner and working in the industry for well over 20 years I just have to laugh at comments from people thinking they know mattresses with only doing at tops 3 to 5 months of research. Do not buy online unless you want to be screwed with cheap products with lots of marketing ploys. Example if you ever see a cheap Dunlop Latex Casper bed next to a good latex bed you would understand why they are so cheap. They are thin and the latex is cheap. If you want real answer I will answer them if you want my two sense.
Barbara, What is the best spring coiled mattress? My husband and I bought a memory foam mattress and it sucks. It has been a year and it starting to sag.
@@MsRissa31 I bought the helix midnight. It's a hybrid and I love it. It's firm yet the foam is very soft and keeps you cool. Bought it used like new for $350. 3 months old. A friend if mine sells mattresses like purple, Puffy and Casper. She gets the returns from folks who tried them out for so many days. I bought a Purple 2. Worst mattress ever!! After a week I had to get rid of it. Killed my back. Too firm. After liking the Helix Midnight, I called up my friend to see what she had in. Low n behold a Helix Midnight Luxe. My second night on it and I think I'm gonna return to the plain midnight. The Luxe us killing my back. It feels worse yet it would've costed me $1,900 compared to $540 I paid. The plain midnight feels more luxurious then the Luxe which is hard with little to no support. I don't think I will ever find another Symbol mattress like I had for 12 years. It was the best! No springs, various foam designed like a mattress with aloe vera top. It was the best and held up
